[OT] Sorry and EndOfThread (was Re: Supermount)
Hi I am terribly sorry. I obviously shouldn't reply to mail at 02:00 AM, maybe not even read it. For some unknown reason, I got the impression that ira said that the Makefile has mandrake's copyright, something which he didn't say at all (he said they put their copyright on a perl script named supermount, which they obviously wrote since the author didn't). I have nothing against mandrake, Ira - I never even saw it. I am sure they are fine people. Also, as I said, sorry for the old-buggy-notY2Kcompliant elm I am using, but that is what math.tau has and what I am used to (they are installing a newer one). I will try not to post in the next few weeks, as I say too much nonsence, and also elm is broken. Still, if the story about the internal format of rpm helped anyone, I am happy. didi Ira Abramov wrote: > > On Wed, 19 Jan 100, Yedidya Bar-david wrote: > > > Sorry for another OT post, but the Makefile from the author's patch > > contains no copyright, seems similar to Stephen Tweedie's original > > Makefile, and the new source files have this copyright: > > so? Yes. ssh1 and ssh2 are incompatible. SecureCRT and DataFellow's F-Secure both support SSH2 in their latest versions, but both are time-limited trials. The change in ssh2, as I know, is that packets are signed, making it impossible for a man-in-the-middle insertion of packets, but that was also fixed in ssh1 after CORE-SDI found it. So, just go and download OpenSSH. It's more secure, and both TeraTerm+SSH and Putty work great with it. > I have generated the keys on both Linux and NT. How are these keys to be used to > for encrypted tunnel? Upon installing ssh, a private/public key pair is generated. The private key is essential for encryption: for decrypting, what was encrypted with the public key (which is sent to the user each time he/she connects). Your private/public key pair is yours personally. You can append the public key to the .ssh/authorized_keys file in your home directory (on Un*x) and then you could use the matching private key to connect to your account without a password. Read man ssh(1) for more details on authorized_keys. -- Best regards, Ilya Konstantinov a.k.a Toastie [http://toast.demon.co.il] = To unsubscribe, send mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with the word "unsubscribe" in the message body, e.g., run the command echo unsubscribe | mail [EMAIL PROTECTED]

The public key that goes with it is transferred to the client automatically upon connection and is stored (the first time) in the .ssh/known_hosts file. Your problem is ssh is not setup correctly, and I suggest re-running "make install" from the disrtibution directory (after doing "configure" and "make" ofcourse). Ethernet devices it >configures too. I think those were in RedHat before 6.x. well actually it looks like a gui interface for sndconfig. but, it's very nice how they did it: they have a program that detects your hardware and then you can press on the soundblaster and click install. it then runs that gui interface to sndconfig (when you press test then you hear the same old "hello this is linus...". other than that, the install is quite buggy, i discovered. i tried to install it yesterday on my mom's computer which has one windows partition and that's it. 1. mandrake didn't like that and said that there were no available partitions which means it's a little too winblows users friendly - it won't let someone install linux over his winblows!?! so i used the redhat installation to create the linux and swap partition. 2. it was a text based installation (which makes me wonder if mine was the gui installation?). They apparently didn't think too many people would get this installation because it looks like they didn't even test it. i couldn't use expert mode because it kept crashing with signal 11(?) right before the individual package choosing. 3. during the installation of the packages it showed output of processes every once in a while. weird. but i still think it's very cool and i highly recommend it. = To unsubscribe, send mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with the word "unsubscribe" in the message body, e.g., run the command echo unsubscribe | mail [EMAIL PROTECTED]
