SuSE Email Server II

2001-01-31 Thread Schlomo Schapiro

Hi,

I am looking for some infos about above product. Anybody tried it,
installed it, any comments ?

For interested people:
It's a SuSE Linux with postfix, LDAP, cyrus IMAPD, Horde IMP ...
and (best of all) an integrating Web management interface !!! for ca. $250

I am looking into email server solutions that also have a good user
management interface and this is one of the (seemingly) best I found till
now.

My preferred e-mail server solution is Exim. Others prefer
Postfix.

I prefer vi as a management interface. Others prefer emacs, but
they're heretics.

It sounds like a good product. But somehow I don't think it will
be suitable for all environments. What are you trying to
achieve?

Re: SuSE Email Server II

2001-01-31 Thread Schlomo Schapiro

Hi,

while I might agree with you for a home system, if you have to install
a production system for an office you want something that is
- fast and easy to install & setup
- has good support (SuSE give 2 years push updates !)
- has a proper admin interface so that some looser can do simple
management tasks
- especially on unix it is still a major piece of work to make a whole
bunch of programs work together as one (LDAP, cyrus, postfix, IMP,
apache) and $250 for sure is cheaper than MY time :-)

Just some reasons ...

Schlomo

PS: I am considering to buy this but since SuSE don't have a demo, I would
like to hear s.th. about it.

PPS: This is a fairly new product, btw.

[OT] Memory allocation in multi-threaded program on multi-proccessormachine

2001-01-31 Thread Alexander Indenbaum

Hi!

We have problem with program which fails to utilize all the CPUs on
multi-proccessor machine. We suspect that all the threads wait on same
mutex when they allocate memory since heap is shared.
Is this true? How it can be solved?

Re: SuSE Email Server II

2001-01-31 Thread Ben-Nes Michael

Im in the same mud :)
i my self upgrading my mail server.

My solution is:

exim / qpopper, auth aginst mysql or passwd (depend on the account) + virtual
domains + cyrus IMAPD + mailman

and the interface will be apache + php against mysql

its starting to work and it look very promising, exim is so robust and
flexible you practicly can do everything :)

check:
http://www.netd.co.za/mysql-mail/
and
http://www.exim.org

It updates less frequently: whenever there is a problem with the technion
mail gateway, I can actually use the plasma-gate archive to read messages
to linux-il almost real-time. the mail-archives archive is not the
up-to-date

How do the search features of the two archives compare?
