Did you ever have any OS recognize more than one CPU on this iron?

Check your BIOS, maybe you should enable the other cores there.

OT:cheap and reliable web hosting anyone ?

2008-05-28 Thread Erez D
hi

i want to put up a minimal website
the web is very simple, mostly a few static pages
there should not be too much trafic, nor space taken

however, i want it to respond fast to the small traffic it gets
and to leave security and backup issues to the hosting site
(so i do not put it on my pc)
it should of-course be reliable

does anyone know a hosting service that matches this ?
the cheaper the better ;-)
as long as it is reliable ...

cheers

I would advise against this.
If your stuff is static, it is enough to backup it just once. But it
must be backed up nevertheless.

https://www.nearlyfreespeech.net/ are cheap as hell. I have a web site there
and it seems quite reliable (although I don't check it often).
ssh/sql/php - you got it all. Seems like the perfect solution for your needs.

The one above has all the marks of being based in Arizona or Florida.

Is there any provider of VPS (Virtual Private Servers) based in Israel
(with Israeli-allocated IP's)?

Hi Erez,

If it's only few static pages and reliable, then you can use Google
page (http://pages.google.com). If you have a domain, you can use
zoneedit.com to use webforwarding to those pages.

Can you test this line with a caller-id-enabled phone?

I have an called-id enabled phone connected along the card, and see there
the Called-ID.

On internet someone suggested to make the Wildcard TDM400P card not to share
IRQ with any other device. In my case the IRQ was shared with audiocard, but
disabling the audiocard have not helped.

Other suggestion was to move the TDM400P to phone line that is not connected
to ADSL.
Do someone here uses the card on ADSL-less line with working Caller-ID?

Experience setting LinuxVirtualServer on CentOS?

2008-05-28 Thread Amos Shapira
Hello,

I'm struggling with LinuxVirtualServer to setup two servers which
should act both as ldirectors and realservers at the same time.

I think the main cause for my troubles might be that the two servers
are connected through the same Virtual Rack (same VLAN, hosted at
ThePlanet), and can be assigned to the serve addresses from the same
subnet, but right now they are configured with primary address from
separate subnets on their eth0.

Is anyone here willing to step up and help me troubleshoot this?

I'm asking this broadly before I plunge into 1-2 hours of writing a
detailed description of my problem while no one is going to know what
I'm talking about anyway.

Thanks,

Make sure that whatever Israeli VPS provider is a really stable and is
in the market for few years!

I had to learn that the hard way: Someone at Bezeq int. recommended me
a small company called "spine" to host my videos that I post on my
blog. Everything worked pretty well (although their price was pretty
high). Few months have passed and then I got an email from someone who
read my blog and said that the videos are not playable. I tried to
check for myself.. nope, not playable at all, so I tried to SSH the
machine. no ssh. tried to call the spine guy, no answer. Just like
that, all the videos and code that I hosted disappeared without giving
me any notification or anything.

Turns out these were for cases when there is no actual CallerID was
available.
For calls with CallerID, these did got logged in
/var/log/asterisk/cdr-csv/Master.csv

If you trying to debug it using [default] dialplan, remember to stick delay
of one second before printing out the CallerID, as follows:

[default]
exten => s,1,Verbose(Incoming call)
exten => s,2,Verbose(${CALLERID(num)})
exten => s,3,System(/bin/echo -e "'Incoming Call From: ${CALLERID(num)}'" >>
/tmp/abc )

Now, I am going to write a script that will do search on household
phonebook, retrieve owner name of the phone and would say it on the speakers
(which are always on) using some speech engine.

Thanks to all who tried to help!

Thanks for the warning.

I'm contemplating hosting some sort of an "appliance" on this server
which should be automatically-rebuildable, nothing that can't be
replaced.

Anyway, it sounds from your reply (and lack of other replies) like
there is no such a thing as "Israeli VPS provider".

Re: OT:cheap and reliable web hosting anyone ?

2008-05-28 Thread Hetz Ben Hamo
Amos,

Unless you're building something which requires small latency (such as
video/audio streaming), I strongly suggest you should look for such a
thing outside of Israel.

I just took a simple server from theplanet (they are located at
Texas), which costs me $89 a month: Celeron 2.4Ghz, 1GB RAM, 80GB
Disk, 750GB transfer per month, Centos 5, and you can do whatever you
want to do with it. Downloading speed is not bad to Israel: 200-400K
per second. They have this 'sale' that you can upgrade either the RAM
of your machine (I upgraded from 512MB to 1GB RAM), or double the disk
capacity or the bandwidth limit for free.

Thanks,
Hetz

The main point for this application is to have an IP address hosted in
Israel, latency is not an issue and I don't expect the server to
require much resources (memory, cpu).

We are already using ThePlanet for medium-sized servers for other
functions (two dual quad core servers are our latest purchase, for
about 1700$US a month) and they are pretty good.
