I could not find the gnome-win file. Does this means that I have not
installed it? Sorry guys, I am new to Linux. Left the Unix arena for many
years until now I have to pick it up again.

Thanks

I have the same setup. Fortunately, BEOS PE is not related to other OS'es.
Simply install it into the Windows Drive and install. Now even if you install
Win2k and RHL ( I have the same combo, Win2k Pro, RHL 6.1, Win 98, QNX and BEOS
PE).
You can install BEOS PE into WIn2k and then mount the system as described in
some tutorials. This is an easier way. And isn't there a limitation in BEOS PE
that you can't install it into a separate partition as yet?

Hi Texstar,
Thanks for getting back to me re. the 5100c, it does not sound too
difficult tho. I'll have to read up about up-dating the kernel.I
was already thinking about buying Mandrake 7.1 after reading a
magazine review so that might make it a bit easier. I downloaded
Sane and a ppscsi patch but did not know how to use them - hence the
post I made about my lack of knowledge etc.I know working with W95
having a full manual of ms dos commands comes in very handy at times.
I'll get back to it all next week.At the moment I am being
distracted by CNN and the Florida recount coverage!

Thanks

Thanks, found it.
Set it up - it works great. On this small of a network, it would be
easier to do static addresses and copy the host file to all the
computers. I'll get into DNS soon, I hope!

That was so easy, I should have thought of it myself! It's just that
windows loves to do things in some convoluted way, I thought it w

i have a compaq armada v300 with a Ati Rage Mobility. i downloaded the
appropriate X server from www.linux-notebooks.org and it works ok. only
problem is that i have to attach a monitor to the laptop before i start
X because if i dont, i get all kinds of weird horizontal double windows.
when i start X wihtout any windows it looks ok. the mouse moves normally
and the backdrop looks ok. just when i put windows like xterm or a
windowmanager on it, it looks like some buffer overflows and gets
redrawn several times. only horizontally even... is there a setting in
XF86config to prevent this from happening? the odd thing is, when its
bugged up, i plug in a monitor, switch to it and back and it looks ok
again. if anybody knows how this is fixed, please
mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED].

You can use all IP numbers beginning with 192.168.x.x. These are reserved for
private use. This article tells more:

use config (lower case) or better yet use
make xconfig (if you have XWindows working) or
make menuconfig (if you don't)

The last two are much easier to navigate for newer users.

Subject: Installing linux onto removable media (IOMEGA JAZ)
Date: Mon, 03 Jul 2000 15:30:06 GMT

I want to install linux onto an IOMEGA JAZ drive. I understand I may take
a performance hit on the drive access speed, etc... but this is mainly for
evaluation anyway. The first issue it seems I have to overcome is that the
Linux install I'm using (RedHat 6.2) will not load a driver for my SCSI
card (AIC-6260AL). I tried expert mode, and tried a couple AHA-15xx family
drivers to no avail. I think the issue is that all the drivers look on IRQ
12 (?) and Windows 98 says the card is on IRQ 10. I guess I could change
the IRQ on the DIP switches...but I don't have those settings either.
(stupid old card!) Even if I get the SCSI card enabled, will I need
another driver for the Jaz then too, or will Linux just see it as another
hard drive? Either behavior would be fine for this. Thanks for any info.
