Re: Multiple Floopies copy?
Thanks Douglas, Joel, Keith and Lonni for the directions. I have splitted the file into two 1.4MB. I was hoping the "See Also" section of the man page would mention something like "unsplit"... How do I group the files together again? BTW, the file is binary, but I am following Lonni's comment that split should be ok. Multiple Floopies copy?
Hi all! I need to put a 2.8 MB file into two floppies for a non-networked machine. Any ideas on how to split the file? Gentoo 1.0 install instructions confusing
Hi all. For those also on the Gentoo list, sorry for the cross post... I felt the 1.0 install instructions a bit confusing when trying to do an "Stage 2 Install". It looks to me that the step #10, the emerge rsync is not required for people doing this kind of installation, as well as step #11 which is "Progressing from Stage 1 to Stage 2". So I skipped these two steps. But when trying step #12 "Progressing from Stage 2 to Stage 3", the emerge --pretend system gives me an error that /etc/make.profile isn´t present and gives me an empty list of packages to be installed. I don´t know what to do. Please help! Thanks, Cid. = "It said it uses Windows 95 or better, so I loaded Linux!" ___ Yahoo! Empregos O trabalho dos seus sonhos pode estar aqui. Gentoo 1.0
Hi All. I've downloaded (at work) the 100 MB iso for Gentoo 1.0 to avoid downloading it from home (dial-up). Reading the install instructions from their site, I still have a doubt. I want to buid everything from scratch. So, I understand that I will never use the Stage 3 stuff. But, it is not 100% clear that if I go through the Stage 2 stuff I will have all my packages recompiled, to the same level of optimization as someone that is installing from the 'Net with a broadband connection. I read that Stage 2 is somehow restricted to i686, but it shouldn't be a problem since that is my PC's architecture. Does anyone know? Re: Gentoo
Thanks a lot for the tips! I'll start with the iso image. I think it is only 16MB. Hi Collins. Do you know if with a great deal of patience is it possible to build a Gentoo system using dial-up connections? I wouldn´t matter if it download only a dozen of packages a day and compile those, but it would need to be able to continue on the next day from the point it stopped. Oops! I've should have checked there first! Thanks a lot Kurt. BTW, another thing I think is cool is to replace the "someone@somewhere wrote that" for other things, like you just did when replying to this. This one I couldn't find on the SxS unfortunatelly. Email Signature
Hi All! I've seen people using some interesting things for email signatures. Some use some funny comments found inside Linux Kernel source, some use the output of commands such as uptime. Fetching HTML + Parsing Info (somehow interesting)
Hi All! A Web site in my country has a online game where they have spread all over the site 10 pieces of a puzzle. When you clik on a piece you've found, based on the URL from where the click was submitted, a CGI gives you part of a phrase. One has to find all pieces in order to build the whole phrase and later submit the phrase as the answer to the puzzle. I'd like to use something like wget to fetch the site up to 5 levels of depth, but without any graphics, and feed that to grep or any other parser looking for keywords that remind the link to the piece of the puzzle and output the URL of the page where the candidate link was found. Anyone suggests a "one-line-does-it-all" command? ;-) Cheers, Cid. = "It said it uses Windows 95 or better, so I loaded Linux!" ___ Yahoo! GeoCities Tenha seu lugar na Web.
