Yes, I do (SuSE 7.2)- it works well as far as I can tell, with the RPM
package showing up and being removable from YAST (1 and 2), xrpm etc..

Try it!

I think I may have to unsub myself, Douglas, if you have to take
similar action again, because of what appears to be a few people's reactions.
One of the things I cannot stand is the idea of Political Correctness, and
one-size-fits-all ideas and opinions.

I appreciate you have to take into account all shades of opinion on an open
forum, but, as Michael has pointed out, no-one was forced to open his
attachment, and when the jokes started running, no-one was forced to follow
the thread. Still less did they have to leave the list for a single instance
of a photograph of a young woman being posted (as an attachment) or a joke
that sparked a half-dozen slightly/rather/insert-own-adjective off-colour
responses.

Nobody posting intended or wished to offend anyone, I am certain, and the
list is not going to change its general tone and values over one or two
posts.

IMHO we are all part of the same world community, and should, I believe, take
views that disagree with our own opinions as equally valuable and/or valid
points of view. Tolerance is what is needed, IMO, not over-reaction, or PC.

If nothing had been said (or done in the cases of those who have unsub-ed)
this thread would have died out in a very short time with no adverse affects.

Diversity and tolerance, please. My tuppence worth.

Perhaps you not tried a really good beer? :-)

  Terence (CAMRA member)

 CAMRA? wha'sat?

Campaign for Real Ale- a group of people who prefer naturally brewed and
barreled/bottled beers, and encourage the production of such tradtionally
brewed beers.

When it started, some thirty years ago, the big (national) brewers were
destroying local pubs (PUBlic houses) wholesale, and making pasturised beer
(that is beer that had the natural processes of fermentation killed). This
was virtually all one could buy. This coloured alcoholic water was then
pressured by CO2, and forced through a sparklet tap to make it froth and so
appear alive.

Cask beers on the other hand, were left alone, usually after dry hopping, and
continued to ferment in cask. This produced natural CO2 in the cask, and a
natural head, as well as a good flavour, and a great deal (usually) of
individual character.

Things have greatly improved since Camra started, and my local (local pub)
always has three real beers on tap (actually there is an argument over
whether these shoud be called beers or ales- the often expressed
difference is that ale did not have hops added to it. Hops give longevity
to the brew, as well as flavour).

There are three annual Beer Festivals locally, where the dedicated
man/woman can sample anything up to 100 or so brews from micro-breweries as
well as from nationally distributed beers.

Sorry- you only asked what Camra meant-- rant over.

Re: To Au-Yeung: E-Workstation 3.1 in Hong Kong

 Terence,

introduction of the new legislation against software piracy,

 watching.

Thanks for your reply, this is most interesting to me.

Yes, they used to watch pretty carefully when I last lived in Sek Kong,
(about ten years ago), but the raids were usually well advertised, and little
was done! I remember being told by friends (and the guys in the Arcade) not
to visit on certain days..

Before I left there was a move to keeping all the production kit and presses
away from there, and it was becoming a place where you ordered from your
trusted supplier, and the goods were then posted to you. I assume that this
de-centralisation has continued.

I must say (and if this sounds like a defence of piracy it's not meant to, of
course) that an advantage to me was trying all the different programmes for
comparison purposes. After all, most people only need one package for word
processing, for example, but by trying several at very low cost, one can pick
the best one for the purpose. I bought a number of official programmes on the
back of these trials, then and subsequently (before I discovered Linux!).

Another advantage was the very cheap (compared to UK) computer books.

Finally, I used to get quite a kick just from being in a total computer
environment, hardware, software, books, technicians, gurus, all buzzing
around in an amazing can do atmosphere, that I've found nowhere else.

Yes, I miss the old Arcade and your e-mail brought it all back to me

From my time in HK, (and the Golden Arcade.) I found it good value, but,
and a big but, the Arcade had no official software for sale. I do hope that
the very reasonable price of SuSE Linux- and most others- means that you got
a full proper copy.

I hope (further) that this means that even in the hothouse commercial markets
of HK it is not worth ripping off the distro because the margins are too low!

This in turn would mean that an argument I have voiced for years (that most
people most of the time will pay a reasonable price for what they buy, but
will support piracy when it means that they get what they want if (a) they
cannot afford the often silly prices, or (b) if they consider the prices
extortionate.)

To rip off SuSE's Personal or Professional offerings would involve more
effort and cost, I suspect, than buying in bulk and selling at the market
rate.

Can you confirm that you have a full SuSE version, and not an Arcade version?

Please reply to me personally if you prefer not to respond to the list. I
would just like to have my theory supported from the Arcade itself! Thanks.
