It would seem that some twit altered a script file between 7.1 and 7.2. Lets hope they got 7.3 right, but I will not know till I try it. Apparently, like Caldera, SuSE's upgrade install programs are invariably a challenge. Most of the seasoned SuSE users recommend getting the full version, backing up your data, then doing a full fresh install from scratch. I have five machines here with W3.1 (just upgraded the server). I had 3.1 balk on a couple of rhe machines, an AMD 750 Duron and an Intel P3-866. I keep a Mystique video card as a test card that I use whenever an install fails during hardware probing. In most cases the install continues flawlessly when I use the test card. Once I've completed the install I then (in run level 3) manually configure X to reflect the card I intend to use. The biggest culprit has been the ATI Rage Fury Pro. Yours sounds a lot like the system I have here I wanted to put 7.3 on when it shows up. suse 7.2 & 7.3
I have had a ridiculous few weeks, just have not stopped, weekends as well and its all my own fault, just could not say "NO". An olod fool is the worst kind and seeing that I have stessed myself too thats the pits. But most of it was really worth it, to see he joy it brings, but not always. but I digress. I ahd a few moments to do some of my own things and installing Suse 7.2 was one, along with multimedia and staroffice 6.0. I was going to buy 7.3 seeing its immenent release but have had a problem with 7.2; it would not install!! How dare it! It does not get past the checking system (at 50%) it freezes. I am not willing to spend the money on 7.3 if its going to baulk. Now 7.1 has no problems so why with 7.2 and will 7.3 have no probs? I have installed on other systems but the main difference being that I have a MB with ddr ram and an Athlon 1.4 bought just recently; 10 days ago, probably the "C" version. Does anyone know if this could be the answer and does 7.3 address this?
