But Beos needs 500mb space to create a virtual partition (ie a 500 meg windows file that contains the beos file system). Rebol on Beos runs in the telnet app If we are talking space then Beos uses a lot compared to Dos. (There is also supposed to be an embedded Beos version available) The only thing that makes Beos comparable to DOS really is how fast it boots. Beos boots up and is ready to use in under 20 seconds on my system. That's pretty amazing for a gui system (though my emulated Amiga boots just as fast, after waiting 3+ minutes for windows ;) Cheers, Allen K

Have you tried BeOS? Powerful as Linux, GUI interface, et al. Take a test drive :-) Also - just to be on the Rebol topic. I'm playing with Rebol in the nntp area. I've tried a few test posts (cut and paste from the How-to, aamof) but my server keeps flinging them back - no subject. I managed to get one through, with no subject. Anything obvious I'm missing?

There was some discussion held on the topic here already. DOS is not 32 bit (well, Caldera's OpenDOS and probably new PCDOS2000 - comes with Rexx are). There is also "problem" with tcp/ip stack. I must admit I thought about DOS Rebol version just few days ago. The question is - once REBOL/View, REBOL/Command (whatever it is :-) is publicly available, you can buy P133 for just a few bucks. But on the other hand - it's also question of simplicity. We don't need all that W95 underlying infrastructure to maintain to just use a REBOL. That's the reason I think DOS still fits my needs. What other "simple" OSes are left? Linux? Not all that easy. Upcoming Neutrino? Standalone Amiga/Elate? Maybe DOS is ugly OS, but it is lightweight and boots fast. Still not sure RT will reconsider REBOL DOS release though ... -pekr- > > > -- > Best regards, > VICTOR mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]

Hi listers, What do you think,is there any chance in the future to see a Rebol version for (MS/DR/IBM)-DOS ? Or the Rebol team just consider DOS meaning Defunct Operating System ;-)... -- Best regards, VICTOR mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]
