So since everyone seems to want a topic to talk about…

Does anyone know how I can get a little bit more depth to my slip without
attracting too much attention? It’s all sand. One particular place I am
worried about is around the AC inlet.

Thanks,

Vern

Probably a better idea than my tongue-in-cheek suggestion of the scuba tank.
But my concept gives you the chance to discover all sorts of “stuff” which has
fallen into the water over the years – like old cell phones, car keys, etc

Jump in the water with a landscaping rake under the cover of darkness?
(I've seriously thought of doing that myself with a little submerged
knoll behind my usual summer mooring). Needless to say, I'm assuming
that you have somewhere nearby that you can make shallower..

Vern,
I have used water jets EG pressure washer for specific spots assuming that
you can see the bottom. Takes a while as you have to shut down to let the
water clear to see what you have done.

When I grew up we had a hard walled boat slip/ house that used to get
sanded in every winter, and used the big boat tied off and in forward gear.
With that in mind use the dink and keep working on the outboard motor, in
gear, with the boat out of the slip.

somewhere near by that you can make shallower...

Details. DETAILS! G

Well that boat in the next slip over hasn't moved in 10 years, has it?

I think it might work better to run one of those big sewage ejectors or
submersible sump pumps the other way around, though - put the pump on the
bottom and actually dredge with it. Hook up an 8' (or whatever works) length of
2 or 3 schedule 80 plastic pipe (2 would likely be easier to hold but 3
would flow better) to the pump; put an elbow on top of the pipe and connect a
2 or 3 flexible drainage hose and run it somewhere that needs more mud and
sand. You would need to find a balance between clogging the pump and not
getting any bottom at all but those things are pretty hardy and bouncing it a
little on the bottom to stir things up would probably get the job done. I think
the strainers are pretty course so while you probably wouldn't get the old
shopping cart off the bottom, most of the other stuff would flow right through.

Fun!

Please don't jump in the water if your marina has AC service to the
slips. Especially not if it it's a fresh-water marina! If you haven't
heard of ESD (Electric Shock Drowning), read up on it now!

http://www.electricshockdrowning.org/?page_id=23

I am in the process of re-wiring my boat, and have an isolation
transformer that I will use to prevent MY boat from electrocuting
swimmers. But there are always other boats in the marina, and some of
their mis-wirings may not become detectable until the circuit in
question (bilge pump? refrigerator?) becomes energized.
