[Lubuntu-desktop] problems with packagekit
ok, problems here, i've looked to packagekit API's for python. my impressions: 1 - PackageKitClient doesn't accept simple list in install_packages(pkgs). 2 - Get the packages is very slow. 3 - there are some widgets interesting, but are the same in aptdaemon so i think aptdaemon is best, what you think? Re: [Lubuntu-desktop] Keeping LXDM for 11.10
Fully agree, Julien. I'm working in the matching theme and it's very difficult and unstable (it's not enough to "port" the LXDM one). Also it happened two times changes in the API, the XML sentences and other things. I'm sure I could do a simple and functional theme with a (simple) greeter, but I'd like to Investigate how to get animations, a better PNG with alpha support face-browser, and much more. That's supposed to be designed for (among the speed and library independence, of course). +1 for using LXDM again. -- Go to rafaellaguna.com Go to Lubuntu.net <><><>___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~lubuntu-desktop Post to : lubuntu-desktop@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~lubuntu-desktop More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Lubuntu-desktop] Lsc revision 18
I've pushed up the revision 18, fixed some bugs and changed the apps basket (more user-friendly now). in the revision 17 i've fixed a serious bug, some package like e.g. libnotify1-gtk2.10 are automatically installed via other package by apt (libnotify1-gtk2.10 is contained in libnotify1), but lsc was not set up to substitute this kind of package, now is ok, if somebody can test, a tipical app that give this bug is the gnustep de (so all the apps written in objc) e.g. charmap.app. Regards Stephen Smally ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~lubuntu-desktop Post to : lubuntu-desktop@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~lubuntu-desktop More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Lubuntu-desktop] Keeping LXDM for 11.10
Hi, I evaluated lightdm the last few days, and here is the situation : - it crashes on upgrade, make the desktop unusable - I was not able to test it on daily build (daily was broken until yesterday), it means I can guaranty it's working correctly. - LXDE greeter for lightdm was not tested - The theme is not finished It appears that I'm not sure we will be able to deliver a good experience with lightdm for the 11.10 release. Because of this, I propose to keep LXDM for 11.10. I'm confident that we will be ready for 12.04, but I consider it's too risky for the 11.10. Re: [Lubuntu-desktop] Thoughts from 8.10
Getting back to the main topic, I started using Ubuntu around the Hardy/Intrepid releases and I´d have to comment that some things have gotten better while others, not so much. Boot time and general responsiveness has been a major improvement since 8.10, probably mainly due to ext4. Although boot time isn't as fast as Karmic or Lucid (~15sec on desktop) I think that the boot time regressions haven't been too much of an issue. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~lubuntu-desktop Post to : lubuntu-desktop@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~lubuntu-desktop More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Lubuntu-desktop] Lsc revision 15
Pushed up revision 15, added beginner mode by default (only applications in /usr/share/app-install/desktop), you can switch to expert mode by changing the settings in the file LSC.ini. preferences settings is to do, the branch work with me, but i repeat, if somebody knows how to set up a ppa, can get the branch and do it (it's opensource ;-D). the icons of the programs aren't rendered because i've got some problem using icons of different format in a treeview (message errors by librsvg), only the icon present in theme are rendered (a classic "deb" icon for the other). please give me feedback, and test, of course. Re: [Lubuntu-desktop] Thoughts from 8.10
2011/8/26 Leszek Lesner : > - Ursprüngliche Mitteilung - > > RTFM. There is an apt/preferences flag for that. That's exactly what I mean. I.e. not to RTFM but rather to include this flag as an override profile for apt in lubuntu. Otherwise it draws to much rubbish with different packages, since most 'recommends' are bound to default gnome env. for gtk apps. -- Looking forward to reading yours. Ruslan N.
