Re: [lubuntu-users] 18.04 LTS support length? (uninvol...@outlook.com)

2020-05-25 Thread uninvol...@outlook.com

OK, glad to hear that, but if you were following the gist of it, you **might** be able to upgrade to the
newest LTS . . . and then simply add "lxde" . . . and you would have the tried and true, but
"olden" "lxde" GUI, stacked on the freshest LTS??

It might be as simple as "sudo apt install lxde" . . . but it might be something like
"sudo apt install lxde-desktop-environment"  ???  If you looked in synaptic it might show
you how it would like to be commanded.

But possibly the difference between "lxde" and what is offered now, "lxqt desktop" might
be minimal and provide extended support, over the choice for "lxde"???  The great joy of all
flavors linux is almost unlimited choices and any choice made can be changed, etc.

I like to run a build that stays close to the defaults, but I'm likely to end
up finding a way to keep LXDE going in perpetuity - unless there are security
issues with it. It's a pretty mature DE and hopefully I can keep it going.

I've tried LXQt and, well, I didn't find it appealing. I'll continue to test
it, as time allows.

LXDE helps me make things simple and elegant, so that I can get a DE like this
pretty easily:
http://pix.toile-libre.org/upload/original/1590451304.png

Meh... Maybe I'm just old and stuck in my ways. I'll keep LXQt in mind and test
it again soon.

Just as it was with the Lubuntu engineered LXDE desktop, totally different.

I'm pretty sure you have to install the lxde package,
before the LXDE option appears in the "Session" drop-box,
near the upper left corner of the log-in screen.

The LXDE desktop I see on Lubuntu 20.04, appears identical to the
LXDE desktop I see on my Debian Buster systems.

The launcher icon, and the dark, rounded taskbar, as well as the
LXDE splash-screen are the same on Lubuntu 20.04, and on Debian
Buster.

I suspect the LXDE we get on Lubuntu 20.04, is the same as comes
from Debian.

I choose to use LXDE because I can still do the color-customization I
like so much, and because it is more familiar to what I'm used to.

Also, where my 32-bit machines can't be used on Lubuntu any more, and
only Debian still supports them, on Debian, I use LXDE, so all of my
machines have a common desktop.
