Bartolotti's precise dates seem unknown at present but c.1630 -
 1682
may be a reasonable estimate. The inclusion of works for lute
 by Losy
(b.1650) and Ginter(b.1661) in the earlier part of this Ms
 suggests a
date around 1680/90 for its compilation.
The tiorba was, of course, a widely employed instrument for
 continuo
in
this period and, in my view, it's unsurprising that a few
 pieces for
solo instruments by various unidentified tiorba players, as
 well as
famed players such as Bartolotti, shouldn't turn up in
 collections
from
  time to time.
Petyer Steur suggests the lute piece on f.26v (Gigue de Angelin
 de
Rome) is by A M Bartolotii but this may be simply speculation
 around
  similar word association.
  regards,
  Martyn

[BAROQUE-LUTE] Re: London Weiss manuscript is online

2018-06-21 Thread Petrus Paulus Maria Steur
There seems to be a marked difference in resolution of at least a
factor of 2 between ms downloaded as a whole and singly downloaded
pages. This can be simply due to the ms pages occupying only the lower
half of each page ..., since the overall size of about 55 MB is the
   same.

   Dear All,
there seem to be two persons with a CLFBoc: CLFBocI (also simply
CLFBoc) and CLFBocII and both have a n °13.
From the concordances the first would be the earlier (renaissance) one
while the other the baroque chap.
For the first I have (at the moment):
   PL-Kj40641 / 7v - GB-LblA38539 / 21r - Besard1603 / 128v - CZ-PnmIVG18
   / 29v - GB-HAB1 / 76v - GB-HAB1 / 253v - Vallet1615 / 78 -
   GB(-?)18940-1-3-4 / 1v
while for the second there are the concordances already given by Markus
   Lutz.

 Dear Göran,
There is already quite a bit of work done by John H. Robinson
regarding a number of pieces by Gaultier. It was the subject of
a publication for the Lute Society back in 1997, a music supplement
entitled Music in Vieil Ton by Gauthier. Not everything is there
 but it's a good starting point !
To complete a recording I have done recently, I will publish a
collection of the pieces in old tuning in the near future (for
 Corentto Verlag in Stuttgart)
and, of course, I will try to give a few more concordances whenever
possible. It takes time, as you know too well !
In the meanwhile, here is a little video of a Preludium, anonymous
but in a source where the Gaultier's pieces abound (Swan ms.) and
a "Courrente Gautier" which appears in several European manuscripts
 of the 1620s or 30s...
