We stopped using svn 2009, that code must be very old indeed.

LXQt uses github.
LXDE is probably still on SF.
Both should be available at git.lxde.org (https://git.lxde.org/gitweb/)

Added the main mailing list in CC, continue the discussion there or on
IRC (#lxde on either oftc or freenode seems to be regarded as
supported from the web page).

Clearing up the workflow on how to get translations into the
components should be easy. A harder task to take care of (where you
can help!) is to remove references to outdated information like my
mail address =)

the command line tool scrot coupled with the -e swtich to grab the
resulting image and upload it to a server somewhere is probably the
solution to look for.

from the man page:

EXAMPLE
   scrot '%Y-%m-%d_$wx$h.png' -e 'mv $f ~/shots/'

   This would create a file called something like
   2000-10-30_2560x1024.png and move it to your shots
   directory.

Add it as a scheduled job via cron or similar.

This is not a LXDE specific feature.

Just being the mentor is a monumental task. PCMan can tell you more
about it as he was mentoring one person some years back.
The foundation stuff with sending applications and those things are
fairly easy in comparison. Being the mentor is the hard and time
consuming part.

It's a very good thing to do though. Just do not forget the mentoring
part and what it takes from the mentor. The more the student knows
before hand the better it is.

Subject: LXDE and accessibility
Date: Sun, 21 Sep 2014 18:30:01 +0200
From: Samuel Thibault
To: lxde-list@lists.sourceforge.net

Hello,

LXDE is currently completely completely inaccessible to blind users for
a very small reason: the gail and atk-bridge modules are not loaded. The
user can manage to get it to work by using a .xinitrc or .xsession file
containing

export GTK_MODULES=gail:atk-bridge
startlxde

But this is far from user-friendly, let alone beginner-friendly. On
gnome or xfce for instance, this can be enabled from the "accessibility"
icon of the control panel, which sets a gconf (resp. xfconf) value,
which makes the desktop startup tool enable the module for the whole
session. Could something like this be introduced in lxde?

Samuel

At the link above you'll find pictures of women in their underwear. It

Possible to move stuff around, not recommended at all. It's not very
convinient either - you'll have to change the .desktop files provided

I don't know all of these but in general I see no reason why it would
be a problem really.

Make it some separate place than the development list, it's likely to
be mostly crap.

Debian based system can use the popcon package to get data like this.

Some of it would be included in
http://popcon.ubuntu.com/by_vote
(pretty large file...)

I guess other distributions have something like popcon available, I am
not familiar with it though...

[Lxde-list] Time flies, until it does not anymore.

2014-05-05 Thread Martin Bagge / brother
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA256

Hi team
I first started to use the LXDE components back in 2008 when KDE 4.x
was added to Ubuntu in a way that made my machine choke. At first I
just used it to do work on a underpowered laptop. Later on I moved my
desktops to do LXDE stuff all over the place. Since then I have
converted numerous people to use LXDE and I still think most people
should go that route. Not because I know much about the competition
but because I think it's a nice experience.
I did my first contributions to LXDE in January 2009 when I completed
the translations for Swedish together with the former translator
Daniel. Nice times.
Not much later I used my time as unemployed to setup the first Pootle
instance that comitted changes back to the monolithic subversion
repositories in use.

And libfm happened.

And new openbox.

And new eyes.

And official lubuntu.

And Gnome 3.

And lxqt.

Time flies, 5,5 years is a long time. It's been fun and games.
But I should have decided on this earlier on, I am acting as an anchor
and not moving the project forward anymore. There are other minds
available to do the work these days. I've removed myself from the
github project. As long as my key is available in git.lxde.org the
Pootle setup can be used and I will stay and maintain that for the GTK
parts. If someone want to work with the Qt parts I'll share the
privileges needed - I will not do it myself.

Thank you for all your dedication and work. You'll find me at
lxde-i...@lists.sf.net and #lxde on oftc (among other places).

PS
I have the ownership of the Google+ page, who will take it over?
My Facebook user is responsible for posting from Wordpress to the
Facebook page - as long as you don't remove me from the page it will
continue to work =))

[Lxde-list] Making Pootle active in the real world -> MOVE TO GIT.LXDE.ORG

2014-03-26 Thread Martin Bagge / brother
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA256

Hi
Things happen and most of them at the same time. Sorry for failing on
you guys.

We stopped the automatic sync between Pootle, SF and github.
Things got messy.
SF sux.

Earlier today I did a git pull and git push between Pootle and the
remotes (SF, github, gitorious and ofc git.lxde.org).
After that I switched the origin for all applicable repos in the GTK+
family to git.lxde.org.

This means that no changes will be pushed to SF from Pootle at this
point. Those who want to still maintain changes inside repos in SF.net
need to tend to that themselves. I do however recommend that people
stop doing that.

No automatic sync is active at Pootle at this time. Changes from
Pootle that translators are pushing will end up at git.lxde.org.

Repos pushed from Pootle to git.lxde.org:
* gpicview
* libfm
* lxappearance
* lxappearance-obconf
* lxdm
* lxinput
* lxkb_config
* lxmenu-data
* lxmusic
* lxpanel
* lxrandr
* lxsession
* lxtask
* lxterminal
* menu-cache
* pcmanfm

Repos pushed from Pootle to SF because they are not available at
git.lxde.org
* lxlauncher
* lxpolkit
* lxsession-edit

The Qt repos are not included in anything with regards to the above.
Yet. The Pootle integration is not finalized in any way.

Both solutions is pretty much equally shitty to me. Can't say I've

It is unidirectional. I can choose what is the "real" upstream ofc.
And I can push both ways but in a state of conflict we have to choose
anyhow.

For people working with github merge requests I would suggest to do
the merges done and ready at github and as fast as possible also push
the change to SF.net. That way the commmits will be in both repos more
or less at the same time and my syncer (at the Pootle server) will not
notice any changes other than the fact that they are missing in the
local clone.

This is how it is setup. No fancyness.

SF.net -> Pootle server -> Github

When adding the Pootle web service software stuff it looks like this:

SF.net -> local git
[pootle magic]
SF.net <- local git -> github

First thing is that I pull from SF.net. Later I then compare my index
to the one at github, it will only push the things missing.
If you push your changes to both they will seem to not be missing in
the github end and all is well.

> So, the only way to solve this issue is moving from old git hosting
> to our own git.lxde.org as soon as possible.

Will not solve it, will produce pretty much the same situation.
Maybe we can work with that situation in a nicer situation. Having
github and git.lxde.org speak to each other and the pootle server
would be a path worth investigating.
We'll see when the host is fully functional.

I am pretty sure that people will try to fix bugs as they are being

These things pretty much takes care of themselves.

It was proposed to use Redmine for this earlier. Is that still wanted?

Tied to this but not necessarily needed to happen at the same time is
the git hosting situation, git.lxde.org is up and running - it's
really just a matter of announcing a flag day for that. If the current
type of repo hosting is what we want to have.
If I am not doing this please do communicate with me as Pootle need
some adjustment =)

> - maybe it's time to stop using both mailing lists (lxde and razor)
> and start to use only one to reduce message load

Yes.
Stuff is happening here but a tad bit slower than I hoped.

So far I have access to lxde-list, lxde-i18n and pcmanfm-develop.
I want to move all subscribers to one unified mailinglist for
development and one for i18n and l10n.
Aka merge lxde-list and pcmanfm-develop and in spirit at least also
merge people from the razor-qt mailing list - I have no access there
though.

I don't believe that we need to split GTK and Qt stuff, at this stage
we need to build community and live side by side. The more time that
passes by the GTK stuff will fade away anyhow and having a legacy list
floating around seems like a bad idea.

I firmly believe that you and I are both fully capable in discussing
ideas and concepts. If you then can show code to support your stand
that is a very good argument.
Planning is good, but it is not worth anything if the plan is not
kept. Get stuff done and develop stuff. That is more important than
having some common ground at this point imho.
If your things get someones attention and you start to diverge from
some type of common ground I am totally sure people will ask you to
steer back.

1. propose ideas
2. discuss option
3. show code
4. patch bugs
5. release
6. goto 1

I will announce the upcoming release updates soon. Minor updates to

be in HEAD without proper releases.

That's all I can give as hints.

It's not two (or three for that matter) projects, separating a project
will not work. This is the main problem to grasp probably.

You have one project with many components. Some of them use one
toolkit and some of them use another toolkit.
Outside of the above quote I grasp that you are only interested in the
Qt based components.

The thread about github workflow in this very list is probably the
starting point at this moment.
The Qt component uses the issue tracker at github and the wiki pages
at lxde.org is used for Qt stuff also.

I really do not think this is necessary but if people using the

I have no intention to add projects that have no translatable
material. This is the same as has been the case before, that's why you
haven't seen menu-cache in the project list for instance.

At this moment there are some project added that seems to have no
translatable material. This is because I got hold up with other stuff
before I got around to finishing stuff. They will be translatable or
removed. No worries there.

For me the projects are equals and the goal is to have complete
translation for all maintained projects. Regardless of being GTK or Qt.

Last night (CET) I added lximage-qt to the Pootle setup as a test. I

Ok. Thanks. This convert step is 100% the problem I see with ts in
Pootle. And the same type of problem I have with the Tx workflow.

Or Weblate?

Tx and Pootle have the same main problem when it comes to Qt
translations. The workflow is horrible from a maintenance perspective.
I haven't check what Weblate offers there, maybe it sucks as bad as
the other two, maybe not.

GTK is still at sourceforge. True.

I haven't followed things on Qt side to answer straight there.
Activity has been at github but I know there was work done to get
git.lxde.org back on track.

Right click the titlebar of the window. it is offered by the window

Or just drag the window to the right or left side at the screen to
make it switch that way.

After this we checked strings and stuff and decided to do a call for
translations. This has started and the release will happen the week
after the freeze is over (weekend of September the 8th).

Five new strings popped up and a fuzzy marker for a printf format
string. See post to i18n about this specific if interested.

Pootle claim to handle the ts files but after a short glance at docs
it looks less than appealing on how to handle it.

I will take a closer look on Pootle and probably give Weblate and
Transifex another go (given the history I rather use Weblate than Tx
just because).

Undecided for now.
I rather have one tool for everything.

And yes I am still dazed from the weekend it seems and not being able
to read. The answer posted to -18n still holds as I've been asked
about the translation stuff numerous times already.

For the thing you ACTUALLY asked I have no good answer at the moment.
I haven't tried to install the Qt stuff myself yet. I do assume they
will just work, and everything else would be regarded as bugs and
those should be solved or reported as detailed as possible for others
to solve them.

Sorry for the confusion.

For LXDE-Qt we do not provide any specific infrastructure yet for two
reasons
 - time. I have been busy with other stuff.
 - it's very very very early in the process still and doing
translations now is for the deep enthusiasts still.

If you want to do a translation for the Qt repos I suggest that you
fork the repository at github and handle the translation via a merge
request in that interface.
Yes, that level of services are the current status.

We will announce how to take care of Qt applications in when we have a
solid workflow for that.

The QT code is in separate repos (the name ends in -qt). The GTK2
projects are still available and the GTK3 code are inside those. Not
every component is GTK3 compatible.

In a later email you mentioned the need for downloadable files. Google
Code does not support that anymore.

Can not say that I am overly impressed with what I have seen but I
haven't really worked with the system.

Same as above with regards to downloadable files.

The cons is strange though. You do have a issue list thing. I remember
it as very slim and not very good but still, maybe it have shaped up
since.

Not very bothering or troublesome really. I have done this with both
Trac and Redmine for project hosting and mailman for mails and gitosis
for the git ssh stuff.
For selfhosting there are more than we can handle to evaluate, I have
some ideas and others have theirs. A first decision is probably to
choose "hosted" or "inhouse".
The "inhouse" option is plauged with the question, "who would host it?"

I would also like to propose to look at http://www.gitorious.org, it's
pretty much github but also a good citizen as they open source the
platform.

YES!

As of earlier today (CEST) the server is back online. I had to scrap the
old database of users in favour of actually getting it to work, aka you all
have to go thorugh the small hassle of waiting for an activation e-mail and
stuff. I'll blog about the process and stuff when wordpress is up again...

use http://pootle.lxde.org - the old address is pointing to a IP series not
in control of anyone I know of, I'll ask the bsnet.se DNS admin to put it
towards an IP I control and put a crash page there soon.

Sorry for the hassle but the future is bright and shiny!

We left Tx because they decided to get stupid or something. The online
translation UI is nice and the administration things are great but the
hassle of getting the file into and out of Tx wasn't worth it. Maybe they
have decided to jump down from the Stupid Hill since and join us sane
people. I have better things to do than investigating that =)

patches can be posted to the patch tracker at sourceforge. if you
could publish a working branch with your patches to pull from using
something like github or gitorious I think it's even better.
post the link to the branch in the body of the patch post to the tracker.

A long overdue thing to look at indeed.

Lately (last six months or more) I have been doing the releases and
mostly it has been libfm and pcmanfm where lstranger have been the
pushing developer.
A rough release process would look something like this:

1. develop stuff
2. develop stuff
3. talk about having a release
4. develop stuff
5. settle on a good release date
6. freeze strings and sync files for translation
7. call for translations
8. develop stuff
(7 and 8 happens in parallel ofc)
9. test build release
10. tag and build release
11. upload file to sourceforge
12. write release statement on blog
13. unfreeze strings
14. GOTO 1

In my opinion this process lacks some parts but still works.
the main problem here is that we do not announce releases intentions
public enough (I have done so at some points in time but that's more
luck than plan).
It works because libfm and pcmanfm has been a one man show, if it
would be two or three (or more) active developers I do not think this
workflow would work.

I have no strong opinions in this matter, other than the ones I have
stressed before - release early, release often. I am all for planning
but using strict dates I do not believe in.

[Lxde-list] [Release] PCManFM 1.1.0 and libfm 1.1.0!

2012-10-31 Thread Martin Bagge / brother
Hi team!
LStranger has been busy since 1.0.1 and yesterday we built and uploaded
1.0.2 to sourceforge. However. That build contained an GTK error that
needed fixing and during the IRC discussion we decided to bump the
version, that should have been done before 1.0.2 but for what ever reason
wasn't.
So 1.1.0 is a working 1.0.2. And 1.1.0 is a very very updated release, how
about that for 1 month between releases!?

Thanks a bunch to everyone that submitted bugs and FR to SF.net. To all
that provided ideas. To all that translated. And ofc a major major thanks
to all that provided code.

The complete announcement and links to files are available in the blog
(where the massive changelog can be read): http://blog.lxde.org/?p=951

No new release dates or firm plans for scope for the next version has been
set.

(and Pootle server is still down...)

[Lxde-list] Infrastructure change: pootle.lxde.bsnet.se

2012-10-29 Thread Martin Bagge / brother
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA256

It has come to this.

tldr; pootle.lxde.bsnet.se will cease to exist in 12 hours time. new
server and new URL will be available.

At Wednesday the hosting for the current Pootle setup will end.
(Thanks a bunch to RSN, the student union in Blekinge, Sweden and the
Swedish University Network!)

I will turn off the services later tonight and salvage data and
hopefully have stuff running tonight or something. It really depends
on what obstacles I might hit during the ride.
Yes I should have done this months ago but other stuff came across...

The URL for the Pootle instance will change, no doubt. Hopefully I can
get a landing page at the old URL pointing out the change but I am not
sure about that yet.

We will not push 1.0.1 beofre 23rd, I am pretty sure about that.
I think there were some bugs reported for 1.0 already but I am not sure if
those are serious, LStranger?
If they are I think we can consider to push a earlier 1.0.1, the multi
monitor support is in 1.0.1 and I guess that is a feature sought after at
least =)

just looking at the pcmanfm repo we have these changes already:
* c4e5298 - Fix: cur_desktop was set to 0 always on startup.
* d5cbf01 - Added 'Fullscreen' toggle into main menu.
* 4cb6570 - Fixed shortcut creation when path contains spaces.
* 18aab7b - Added missing config.h inclusions.
* 6f316e3 - Fixed invalid detection of fm_default_dnd_dest_targets.
* f04f910 - Revert "Added configurable timeout for non-immediate config saving."
* 3b53a34 - Added configurable timeout for non-immediate config saving.
* 1bba6c9 - Set version to 1.0.1~beta.
* 012b296 - Fixed invalid cast in init_entry().
* 98666c0 - Fixed pref.glade that has been made invalid by glade.
* cdcefd9 - Fixed invalid callback on_notebook_switch_page().
* 6e23f80 - Updated DnD to latest changes in libfm API.
* 244f9d2 - Fixed compatibility with GLib < 2.26.
* 3310f26 - Updated NEWS file.
* b53b7b3 - Implemented toggling fullscreen by 'F11'.
* 8b85c2d - Fixed usage of SI units (closes #2964811).
* a0ac0f2 - Added config option for usage of SI units (closes #2964811).
* 3b5a3d9 - Fix for #3138596: Does not remeber window dimension after reboot
* a56a9de - Fix for #3411306: Open a folder on the wrong desktop.
* c65ba57 - Implemented multi-monitor support.

the list for libfm is like double or tripple that in number of
commits...

[Lxde-list] Release of PCManFM 1.0 and libfm 1.0

2012-08-13 Thread Martin Bagge / brother
Hi team
An outstanding effort from the developers has finally resulted in a
pcmanfm release. The changelog for this beast is massive!

  See http://blog.lxde.org/?p=939

After some fixing I count to 70 commits for pcmanfm, for libfm the number
totals at 256!

And the best part? 1.0.1 is already in the tree, there will be a
announcement about string freeze next week - if you have changes you want
to slip in do it now! The release will happen first half of September (can
not remember date now) and it wouldn't surprise me if another release pops
up before the end of the year.

* c65ba57 - Implemented multi-monitor support. (22 hours ago)
anyone interested in that? =)

LStranger++

Files linked in blog as usual.

The code sits in the lxpanel repository. Start developing and attach your
patch at the patch tracker at sourceforge. Also good if you make the
branch public by sending info about your progress here and push changes to
a open collab platform like gitorious or such.

If we built a Dyson sphere around Bruce Schneier and captured all of his energy
for 2 months, without any loss, we could power an ideal computer running at 3.2
degrees K to count up to 2^256. This strongly implies that not only can Bruce
Schneier brute-force attack 256-bit keys, but that he is built of something
other than matter and occupies something other than space.

We all need to start somewhere ofc =)

> About the conflicts with po files you suggest that I remove it from my git ?

No not at all, just remember to never edit the files.
We take care of translations in the Pootle infrastructure and if you (or
any other developer start to edit the actual PO files there will be
conflicts that the automatic scripts can not handle (in most cases) and
this is a problem.
Just let the files sit there. Updates to the POT file and input files and
so on are most welcome though.

One thing I am not sure how to handle is the m4 directory, should that
directory really be inside the tree at all? I guess that it should not but
I was afraid that it would break so I left it in. If it is safe to remove
just do a separate commit removing that.
(git rm -r m4; git commit -m "Removing m4 directory as was accidently put
in tree."; git push)

The other components do not use a LINGUAS file to track what languages to
include it detects that at build time. It would be great if someone who
know autoconf/make can take a look at that implementation and add it here.
In general I think the autconf/make situation need a overhaul here, I am
almost illiterate when it comes to those things.

I located our common split point
   * 3aaa915 - Installation fixes. (4 weeks ago)
All you commits after that I did the following with.
  - removed the automake cache directory
  - removed the *.gmo files from the po directory
  - removed the backup files (filename~)
  - probably even more
When I had the clean "done" I splitted the commits where you added
translation things mixed with code changes. Two of these commits then
became four commits.

   * | f85b216 - Add Ukranian translation. (31 minutes ago)
   * | 4e5a60a - Some random changes to alot of files, derived from the commit
that was called "Adding UK translation". (33 minutes ago

and

   * | 31d6272 - [l10n] Updates to es, lt, ru, uk and the POT file. (27 minutes
ago)
   * | b1f2eeb - Some random changes to some shit. (28 minutes ago

And then I merged our git HEAD with your (and mine=)) changes.
I found myself merging RU, LT, UK and ES translations by hand as you had
changes to those files. I just used our version with no modifications but
there might still be errors because of either you or me so I included the
translators to hilight that they need to recheck the component.

As aconclusion.
I rebased the shit out of your master branch.
You can NOT continue to use that and also try to send changes to LXDE
upstream.

My suggestion:
Drop your github master branch and use my LXDE upstream branch as your new
master.
https://github.com/brother/lxkb_config.git
The branch name is "LXDE-upstream".

Practically you will do something like this to drop your master and add
our:
git remote add LXDE https://github.com/brother/lxkb_config.git
git remote update
git checkout LXDE-upstream
git branch -D master
git checkout -b master
git push -f origin master:master

This operation WILL BREAK TRACEABILITY for forks from your code.
 THIS IS NOT A PROPER WAY TO WORK WITH THINGS!

Suggestions for better ways to solve this problem is welcome from others
more experienced in git.
Thanks.

 Package clean up.

This is NOT a good commit message. Please be verbose in what you change...
Also, the diffstat for that commit?
  42 files changed, 1203 insertions(+), 28371 deletions(-)
28371 deletions? WTF!?
1203 insertions!? Crazy for ONE commit.

The deletions is ofc the removal of junk files that shouldn't have been in
the tree to begin with. Great things, but I had to look at the actual
commit to figure that out, "package clean up" sure - true. But that would
have been the short part of the commit message.

And lastly from the tip section, add a line in .gitignore to remove backup
files. Your git HEAD added configure.in~, 58 of 69 lines added in that
commit was from that backup file.

Just stating the obvious (as I did already at IRC yesterday).

I don't care much for distro specific things in the upstream repo. I
don't do packages so I don't have to work with the fact that it is there
but if it hinders the workflow for someone I would rather remove these
things.
It's something for the package guys to decide in on my opinion. Branches
or what ever. Be my guest.
The cooperation between distros we have seen earlier is something I
really like and I hope we will see those things in the future also.

(Yes I am on the Debian/Ubuntu camp usually but this is 100% upstream
view, I don't do anything with packages for neither Debian nor Ubuntu.)

Sourceforge. I am not doing that much with it anymore, uploading files

But in general I find SF.net painful to use. Am I the only one?
Maybe we should consider to move all upstream stuff to something else in

[Lxde-list] work this coming week

2012-06-01 Thread Martin Bagge / brother

Hash: SHA256

hi devs and others
there has been some nice progress at the pootle server the last two
weeks and I thought we should push some releases the coming days.

lxpanel got a "rc" recently, anyone has anything to say about current
lxpanel git HEAD? release it?

anything else?

next week the I have a holiday away from work (swedish national day and
world ipv6 day!) so I thought I'll try to move pootle to the new
container and generally do some stuff for LXDE. suggestions are welcome
(one thing already planned was to get some cover photo for the facebook
page. it looks like shit to not have a cover there... I hooked the blog
to auto post to the page after the last update spree so...)

my plan for the next week =)

But sending a message here is not that bad either. But it might get
lost, the tracker is sticky.

I use the pot file to discover when new strings enter the repo, this have
been agreed on as method of communication earlier (instead of developers
updating all the po files and push a pile of merge poo onto the pootle
server).
I have to do some other magic to get the same notification if you remove
the file.

The LINGUAS file I don't care about anymore since the make script made the
manual updates obsolete.

Absolutley.

Make a prioritized list and mix "fun" with "boring". Complete the top
most task first and then move on down the list.
Skip the time estimates and all that time schedule things, that will
lead to stress and overhead.
Reprioritize the list on a firm interval (once per month? every two
weeks? something like that) to catch newly surfaced bugs.

No.

And they should never do that either. It has lead to pain before and
will probably do that again in the future because somebody doesn't
understand better. I am happy to support minor releases just to get
minor docs or l10n updates out there.
Hs this really been a problem?

> So, I think changing the release model helps.

I think you are trying to solve the wrong problem in many was. People
should focus on doing great software and clearing out the patch tracker,
thinking about elaborate release processes will not gain more releases.
Probably the opposite given the small team we have at hand.

More code.
More releases.
Better code.
Better releases.
More contribution.

I used po/src_list to get a POTFILES.in to base the intltool-updates on.
This is how all the other components look and I propose that lxkb_config
as well uses this convention as it is the default. But someone else than
me need to do that change.

I've added all the supported language files to the server, and added the

Well - is it? Andrea? Andrew? Daniel? Christoph? Julien? Whoelse?
It's about tracking the git repos and discovering the new tags (or staying
close to the community, or at least reading the blog.

> It's not possible to fix all the bugs all the time. So when is a component

Release early, release often. The latest commit in master should always be
releasable. Use branches for experiment and special things.

> Having a regular release cycle and fixing as many bugs as we can before the
> release date might be a better approach.

But we don't have the manpower so this is just a dream and a burden on the
project.

> Any comments or objection on this?

I don't think this will be the winning strategy. Better release planning
will but dates and promises to people will not.
As much as I hate the SF.net tracker we have lots and lots of issues
posted there. I hope distribution people will forward things to our
tracker when they get reported in their respective tracker. These things
serve as a release planning foundation. Make a prioritised list of things
in the tracker and begin working from the top most important thing. Decide
that when the first 10 or 15 or X tracker items are done there will be a
release. Intermittent releases may still happen but you promise to make a
release when things are DONE. No dates, no promises but clarity in what is
planned for the component.

This comes to manpower, who want to take the hat to always read and poke
reporters about updates to the tracker items to make them into workable
items? Not necessarily the same person who does the prioritisation of the
items but most likely. If we had at least one dedicated developer per
"component bundle" (pcmanfm+libfm need each other) this work would
probably be easy to spot but given the situation where each component is
more or less in the hands of one person, the same person for all of them,
this release planning is going to be the only thing that person can do.
And I don't think we want you to drop development and start doing
bureaucracy.

My wish.
Use the wiki (and/or the blog) to tell people about your plans for the
components. Try to base that work on the tracker items that are submitted.
Use public branches to do the work, don't hide it in your own computer for
weeks and then surpirse everyone with a super change to the master branch.
The releases will still be sporadic and on a need to happen basis and the
main developer can be in charge on when there MUST be a release and I (or
maybe somone else) can do the intermittent releases when we see fit. Like
the last weeks where Daniel and Andrew have reworked the Debian packages
warranting new releases for some components.

Release early. Release often. Release when done. Be open about plans.
Don't hide code.

[Lxde-list] Release galore!

2012-05-20 Thread Martin Bagge / brother
heyhey
I've been busy putting out releases. Some of the updates to the blog is
about the releases we did in April but I have also done releases this
weekend.
And I am not done! I plan to put LXPanel out early June (10th probably), a
message was sent to the translators about this so try to avoid string
updates before that date. Code updates that doesn't change strings are
more than welcome ofc =)

I will hilight the translators about the fuzziness in the last LXMusic
release where only Japanese (and Swedish ofc) was completly translated. I
have no plan in doing a new release of that any time soon but if there are
lots of updates to the strings I will ofc announce a date for that release
as well.

Happy hacking!
(and don't forget to test the lxpanel RC;

Might be just me (and I will not go to debate on it, I don't care that
much) but I hate merges in the tree when there are no good reason for it.
These changes apply just fine on top of master and really need no merge

And I am not at all comfortable resolving conflicts in code I do not

This is a bug report to the Fedora team and nothing the upstream project
can do that much about.
I know some Fedora people are reading this list but the best thing for
your part would be to add a bug report at the fedora bug tracker.
Probably against some installer component.

You have A+Middle for root-menu
I have that on right click.
I have client-list-combined-menu on Middle click and you seem to not
have that at all.

I am in no way a openbox guru but this is something for someone to take
a closer look at.

on what version of pcmanfm is this?
I have no such menu when I ALT+mouse wheel click (or right+left click).
When I just mouse wheel click I get the list of currently running
applications per virtual desktop just as I was expecting.
See screenshot:

can you describe what you were expecting? at least I can not really tell
what "as it may be used by some applications" would mean.

also: make sure this is not a configured behaviour in you openbox
configuration (see .config/openbox).

Tried at work just now in two different browsers with the same result.

Can somebody place the files for me? I'll put the announcement in the

These files I want uploaded:

[Lxde-list] release of LXPanel and LXAppearance ObConf plugin

2012-04-16 Thread Martin Bagge / brother
hi team!
I've prepared the releases of LXPanel 0.5.9 and LXAppearance ObConf plugin
0.2.0. But I cann ot upload it to the sourceforge file archive. On file
upload it just says that an error occurred and for creating directories it
tells me I haven't got the correct privileges.
The person who removed my privs can either add them back or ask me where I
have the files to be able to upload them. I have drafted the release notes
for the blog as usual, just let me know when to push.
