Layout->Document->Class->SGML There are not as many text styles available, but sufficient to produce satisfactory documents. Render error when loading a .eps file.
Hi, The attached .eps file loads correctly into Ghostview, but gives a render error when I try to read it into LyX. The error is: GS [27190] error 11 E:0 -1 S:1 11 I'm using LyX Version 1.0.0 on a Unix workstation and Ghostview Version 1.5. The file was generated from an ECAD package running on a NT PC written through AdobePS Version 5.1 directly to a .eps file and transferred using WS_FTP32 Version 95.04.30. Any ideas? Thank you; I didn't know about that option. It isn't, though, exactly
what I need. (This isn't a complaint, at all, just a note about what
might be useful in some future version.) I would like to have acute-
accented "r" and acute-accented "m" treated the same, as though LaTeX
only knew about 7-bit encodings (even though I'm using T1-encoded
fonts). The reason is that I use the tipa package for IPA phonetic
transcriptions, and tipa uses T3-encoded fonts, an encoding LyX doesn't
(yet) know about. A Latin-1 r-with-acute-accent character and a LaTeX
"\'r" produce quite different results -- only the latter prints an
acute-accented "r". So, it would be useful someday, if I could get
Lyx to store away "\i \'{r}" when I put an acute accent on an "r",
just as now it stores away "\o \'{m}" when I put one on an "m".

I've been using LyX for some time, and it's a credit to the authors that I haven't need to ask any questions. I'm not a TeXpert, and my demands are limited, but I'm developing systems Sychron's documentation admin and I have a couple of questions which the FAQ seems not to answer. First - is there a command line with no GUI that will take a LyX document and convert it to TeX unattended; I want to be able to author a document with LyX, check it in to CVS and have a process in the background build the docs automatically check and install them into the appropriate places as PDF, HTML etc. It seems that LyX has no command line version, or options for turning the GUI. I need something that a Makefile can handle. Second, my TeXpert colleague is developing a set of house styles. Some of these will "take over" e.g. letter, article etc when the appropriate argument is given, but others probably won't. I can see no obvious mechanism for replacing e.g. article(AMS) with article(Sychron); the stuff I see from searching source tree is non-intuitive. Third, we do, as mentioned, use CVS - it would be nice to have CVS support as well as RCS, so that we can check in new versions. As part of this, I very explicitly do NOT want a time stamp in the saved file, as it generates a spurious difference between otherwise revisions. Hi, Sorry if this is a FAQ - I'm scouring the documentation, but it's hard to know what to search for. I am writing the documentation for a software project, and need to have many figures that will consist of nothing but source code. Can I make these float? I would rather refer to Figure XX, then to constantly be saying things like "The following code shows: blah blah(); blah(); and so on. I'm reading the user's guide, and it seems to imply that a figure is basically a graphic. I don't like the idea of having to turn my code snippets into eps files before including them, that'd take me forever! Any help greatly appreciated. Please dear gods, don't make me use MS Word. Duane

(help) HP-UX 10.20 build with CDE
LyX looks like a wonderful package, and I would love to get it up and running. I had difficulty installing the most recent xforms and Xpm libs, but I believe they are in correctly now. The LyX configure script did not give me any warnings, and the build seemed to go fine. When I start it up, the main window pops up, the mouse freezes, and it logs me out. I downloaded KLyX as well, even though I am pretty sure that HP's CDE is not built on a KDE kernel. Sure enough, the configure script couldn't find the Qt stuff. I can't find a BUGS file in the distribution, and I obviously can't read the bug-list through the executable itself. Problem with index output
Hello! I'm using lyx 1.0.3p4 for doing my thesis with multi-part document and lyx is doing a really good job, I'm really happy with the final result. However, I have a problem with the index output. I'm using entry like: subentry!entry The output is almost perfect, execpting an annoying "PE" before sub-entry, example: entry PE subentry, [page number] instead of entry subentry, [page number] I'm not sure it is a lyx problem because I get the same thing if I use the index dialog box of lyx or the tex mode with the latex command \index. I do not really know why these characters are considered as not
valid. Maybe Lars could comment on this, since I believe he added that
code.
In any case, I think you can use the only (!) toggle in Options->LaTeX
to change this.

It should be latin7, but this encoding does not exist in LaTeX (at
least not in my version).

Frankly, I don't know... You should try to contact Alkis Polyzotis
([EMAIL PROTECTED]) who did some work on greek support, and see
if you can clarify the situation. We would be very interested to
improve greek support in LyX.

You can't, unfortunately. A workaround is to write the latex code in a
Standard environment, with \caption and brackets marked as LaTeX.

Meta_L is 0xffe7 & Meta_R is 0xffe8.
It would be nice to have both mapped as Multi_key.

The following is part of my kmap file defining special Croatian
characters:

Here are the definitons of the extra accented characters I need.
I can enter them all in LyX (there is problem with the 1st one - acute s,
because LyX display it properly on the screen but put only character
itself in the file instead the proper code - \i \'{s} to generate it).

\kmod : dot mM
\kmod ~ tilde nN
\kmod - macron aiuAIU

Problem with it is that I lose normal characters like ".", "-", etc.
when using such a definition and therefore I need use of Multi_key.
Now, I do not understand (I'm sorry), how to achieve that, instead
(like now) typing "-+a" which produce "a macron", I can get "a macron"
by typing "Multi_key+-+a" and therefore still have the normal "-" for use.
