Hi I got a similar behavior on my PPC . The problem was not with the ~/.lyx directory, but with the /usr/local/share/lyx directory. I configured LyX 1.1.6 with the --with-lyxname=STRING, and it creates a "STRING" directory in /usr/local/share, but seemed to use the "old" /usr/local/share/lyx dir when launched. Note that the application name was still lyx and not STRING. May be I missed the point ( and lost my "old" LyX binary). Anyway, renaming my old /usr/local/share/lyx directory solved the problem. Hope this could help you. Alain P.S. suggestion : Is it possible to suggest, in the INSTALL file, a COMPLETE procedure to install concurent versions of LyX (e.g. to test a new release before switching). Hello all. I have recently experienced some problems with lyx-1.1.6 handling of dead keys when using a national (czech.kmap) keybord lyx layout. When pressing dead key acute there appears only a mark for footnote and for dead caron there appears a space. This behoviour appears on both RedHat linux 6.2/7.0(XFree4) i386. I have tried binary distribution (rpm) and also the one compiled from the sources - all with the same result. I should also note that all previous versiton up to 1.1.5fix2 work flawlessly. My poor mind would melt trying to get it to work, I suspect. At the
moment, I run lyx at work in a vmware virtural machine, running on top of
NT 4.0. I could run the NT version of lyx, but then I'd lose all my nice
unix support utilities.
I think I'm the only personin the world at the moment who uses linux for
their "productivity" applications, and NT for their numerical calc :)

How to add prefix in float-numbering ?
Hi,
I want to change float numbering:
from "Table 1" into "Table S1" etc.
from "Figure 1" into "Figure S1" etc.
So all numbers must get a certain prefix ("S" in this example).
Is it easy to define this prefix somewhere in the document?

Thanks for providing the temp fix. Without it I'd have to fallback to
1.1.5, however, even with the fix I am encountering serious problems
(core dump) whenever I include a .lyx file which contains a Bibliography
section and then do a View->DVI or any other "View" selection. If I just
load that file as a separate .lyx file I can edit and view this without
problems.
Any 'temp fixes' for that too?

I have done an oxford_it file to adapt it to Italian conventions, but I still have a problem: according to Italian typographical requirements, I would like to obtain: (1) authors in small caps (2) in quotations after the 1st, oxford uses a particular short-title field, and this is OK. I have installed arabtex software , with latex it runs
very well.
But with lyx I must add in the preambule
\usepackage{arabtex}. Unfortunatly the caracteristic
of the arabtex don't appear.
I used to save in latex file and change the document
class to the class "arabart".
It works OK.
Now I would add this ine Layout to have directly from
the Lyx.
I mean I would have : "article (arab)" in the layout
and standard ,section, subsection, , in the list
(these words written in english it doesn't matter),
but when choose them tey refere to the correct thing.

No, this will generate too much space between the two definition paragraphs.
But you can put {} in latex mode (using standard paragraph), or as I mentioned
in another message, you can put a comment paragraph.

Section Numbering and Face.
I am writing my thesis in LyX and I have to stick to the thesis guidelines of Graduate School so here is what I need to do: Sections should not be bold. I change the face from Layout > Font, but the number, i.e. 0.1 remains there and it is in bold. Moreover, I need to have the section title in the center (subsections must be left justified). Another question is how do I set the page margins? I have tried but it does not let me set them. May be I need to try milimeters? Thanks, Remzi

I have tried to put a Bibliography section, and it is true that it crashes
systematically! I don't see any latex command that could prevent from this !

Bibliography question
I've recently upgraded my Lyx to 1.1.6 and I have the following problem with inserting bibliography citations. Let's say I have a master document with several chapters as sub-files inserted to it. I put the BibTex generated references in the master document. Now in sub-files, when I want to add a citation, I can't since the BibTex references are inserted in the master doc and aren't viewable by sub-files (all of the files are open). In previous versions, I had the option to type in the index of the citation (assuming that I know it) in sub-files. LaTex would find it and create the correct citation reference. In "Insert > Citation Reference" of 1.1.6, I can't type anything in (it should be taken from the existing list). My question is: should I use Tex to insert citations or there is another way to do this? Thanks, M

Lyx dispays the msg : this document was generated using the latex2html The address that J.M. gave me mention a file .Xdefaults in which we must add Netscape*documentFonts.chareset*adobe-fontspecific:iso-8859-1 but I don't have a file named .Xdefaults. Out of subject: Concerning the compilation of lyx-1.1.6 I've got the msg displayed: ... make[3] enterring directory '/usr/local/lyx-1.1.6/src' g++ -DHA_CONFIG_H . /boost . -C lyxfunc VM :do_tryto_free_pages failed for kwapd VM : VM : then the compilation failed. I restarted "make" and the same msg displayed again but the compilation was accomplished successfully and lyx works fine.
