I don't understand what the fuss is about here. What's wrong with the rpm's at ftp://ftp.lyx.org/pub/lyx/bin/ and mirrors. I've used them with all of RH 7.0-3, and they've worked fine, provided I had the right version of xforms installed. Hello, Is there a way to automatically rotate a figure or table in a float 90 degree when it is placed on a page alone? It would be perfect if it is configurable, because there are floats that should not be rotated even if placed on a page along. Thank you. Max __ Do you Yahoo!? Problems with arrays of formulas
Hi, I'm writing my PhD with Lyx and I need to write some arrays filled with formulas an I've found the following problem: when I write two formulas with fractions and/or big brackets and subscripts/superscripts in two cells placed just one above the other there is no vertical space between the two formulas. The problem only occurs in the compiled dvi file, in contrast in the lyx screen everything looks great. I've the same problem when I put formulas inside tables. I've searched this topics in the lyx-tips and in the manuals and all I've found is a solution for the latter case: I should use: \renewcommand\arraystretch{2.0} before each table and new command called \tabfrac instead of \fraction the newcommand is defined in the preamble as: \newcommand{\tabfrac}[2]{% \setlength{\fboxrule}{0pt}% \fbox{$\frac{#1}{#2}$}% } This solution does not work for the array problem and I think it is not very elegant so please, if anyone knows a better solution, again please, tell me about it!!! By now, the only solution I've found for the problem with arrays is to insert an extra, empty, row of elements in the array but this gives too much space between the two formulas. Thanks in advance! Víctor PS: The following is a very small lyx sample file that shows both problems: #LyX 1.2 created this file. Prolog formatting
Hi All, I have been trying to include source code written in Prolog into a chapter. It seems to be more difficult than it should be. The verbatim context doesn't do it for me ... it seems to force double spacing into text that is single spaced. An example of what I use is this: % foo/3 is true when all subprocedures % are true. foo(A,B,C) :- do_something(A), do_something_else(B,C), bar(A,B,C). % bar/3. This is my second procedure bar(A,B,C) :- check(A), check(B), check(C), write(ok),nl. And that's how I want it to look in my text. Is there such a thing as a pretty- printer for source code in LaTeX? Or LyX for that matter? Thanks for any help or hints. Regards Goffredo This message was sent through MyMail http://www.mymail.com.au

However, in my Debian system, file /etc/texmf/texmf.cnf contains line HOMETEXMF = $HOME/texmf which adds directory ~/texmf to the TeX directory tree--but it is not so easy to use, because you can not simply copy files to ~/texmf, but you must create a valid directory tree structure there, or TeX won't find the files. So, if you're not using the TEXINPUTS variable, you must do: mkdir -p ~/texmf/tex/latex/local and copy class files (.cls) in the above created directory.

The only problem is the dependency to xforms 1.xx. Due there is no Debian xforms 1.x package up to now it has to be added by a LyX packet maintainer. To my opinion it would be the best place to have it in a download directory together with a LyX deb package. May be the best sollution wil be to build deb Packages from a Knoppix CD. dpkg-repack could be used to create a deb Package from a Knoppix CD. In the Moment Knoppix performs LyX 1.2.1 and Xforms libforms1 1.0-0.RC4.1. May I send a CD with the LyX and xforms DEBs to one of the managers of the download directory? So give me a address and the DEBs wil be on the way within this week. bye, Thomas

I'll distirbute them through my own apt archives later, ATM we got a dead router and a few boxes are not reachable from the outside. I've a few troubles with lyx on RH 8 but ATM I'm not sure if it's a problem with lyx or the spec file. I'll investigate this later. If there is somebody else who want's to distribute the xforms + lyx rpms please write me a PM. I imagine lyx uses ispell and apparently Suse has misconfigured ispell in its version 8.1. Even when one is not in lyx, there is a problem with the (French dictionary) perhaps I imagine also with the German one. I mentioned the problem to them and I wait for the answer. Pierre

I don't run debian, but isn't there some sort of "alien" program which can turn an RPM into a .deb? ---Kayvan There might be a good chance to create deb packages form tar.gz by using checkinstall. I did it serveral times and it worked. I don't know if these packages are really GNU/Linux compatible, at least I can report good experiences by creating RPMs which work well for RH7.2! Thomas

I do not want to step over anyone's toes. AFAIK, there are no tows to step over :) Most smaller projects offer their own *deb packages. And if Im wrong, dont worry for stepped toes. :) bye, Thomas

Re: LyX 1.2.1 Server Pipe Interface not working
Sorry to answer my own mail ... but 1.2.1 stores its configuration in ~/.lyx/preferences not in ~/.lyx/lyxrc as earlier versions did. (There is mow a GUI interface Edit->Preferences to set values in this file). The Client.pm file has not be altered in sympathy with this change. To get the lyxserver working again, I had to put the \serverpipe "/home/myname/.lyxpipe" into file: lyxrc and everything worked as of yore. I did try a quick fix of altering the lyxrc subroutine in Client.pm but that did not work. I must have overlooked something. John O'Gorman

Ok one way is to convert the Debian Packages via alien. Maybe it's cleaner to recompile the Conectiva snasphot packages on a RH system. ftp.nl.linux.org/pub/linux/conectiva/snapshot/SRPMS.main/ Anyway Debian Packages can be found here: ftp://ietpd1.sowi.uni-mainz.de/pub/debian/unofficial/binary/ Sven -- Apt-rpm packages for RedHat http://www.hoaxter.de/aptrpm/index.html Neues fuer Nerten - Stoff der der mettert http://www.bluephod.net
