How are unicode fonts accessed? The same way as "usual"?

If so, I see no particular technical problem why we should not be able to
use them...

latex qn and lyx configure qn

2002-11-13 Thread Nirmal Govind
Hi..

1. I have a sty file (bibtopic.sty) in my local texmf tree.. i.e. in
$TEXMF/tex/latex/natbib/ but lyx refuses to recognize it even after I
run texhash... why?

2. I just installed prosper.. now it was installed in the main texmf
directory (not my local one) but the configure script of lyx doesn't
seem to be checking for the prosper class files... I can see that it
checks for foil but not prosper.. how do I get LyX to check for prosper?
Cos now if I try opening a file which uses prosper I get an error saying
textclass prosper not found and so the LyX file will be opened in a
read-only mode..

Sometimes this is not so good (step 2 I mean), i.e., when you want to preserve
linebreaks, extra spaces etc (e.g., when copying some source code). Then use
Edit -> Paste External Selection -> As Lines

I can't get this to work. I copied outline.inc to my .lyx/layouts and
put an include statement in my stdlayout.inc.

LyX gives me the style name "Notes". But I get an error when I try to
preview in DVI:

"Environment note_l to definfed"

When I export my file to LaTeX, I notice that nothing in the preamble is
getting put there. There is not note environment.

froze while open a lyx file

2002-11-13 Thread linuxman
hi,

I compiled and installed cjk-lyx 1.2.1 on debian/woody, linked with
xforms 0.88-1. But when open some files(about 10 pages long) I wrote
with this version cjk-lyx, lyx froze and the status bar told me
"formatting document". I have waited for long time, but no result,
so killed lyx:-)

I have tested some very simple file, but no problem.

How can I resolve this problem? Thanks in advance!

natbib

2002-11-13 Thread Christopher von Nagy
Dear fellow users,

I have a quick question. I am using natbib to format citations and the
bibliography in a large compound document. I would like to be able to print
each chapter individually from the chapter file rather than the master
document with correct (natbib generated) citations but without having to
generate a bibliography for the chapter. To get the citations now I have to
include a bibliography at the end of a chapter. So my question is, is it
possible to suppress the creation of a bibliography and still feed natbib the
info it needs to generate the citations?

Thanks for any of your help.

are you getting a clean build of Xforms 1.0RC5.2?

2002-11-13 Thread Paul E Johnson
I'm wondering if, for LyX, the new Xforms really makes a difference. I
run into some weird trouble building it.

On RH 7.3 with gcc-3.0.4, I'm trying to build xforms-1.0RC5.2. The
problem I run into is that the linker can't find libXext and unless I
hack the Makefile like so:

EXTENSIONLIB =  -L/usr/X11R6/lib -lXext

then I get linker error like so:

rm -f libflimage.so.1.0~
+ cd .
+ gcc -o ./libflimage.so.1.0~ -shared -Wl,-soname,libflimage.so.1
image.o image_bmp.o image_combine.o image_convolve.o image_crop.o
image_disp.o image_fits.o image_genesis.o image_gif.o image_gzip.o
image_io_filter.o image_jpeg.o image_jquant.o image_marker.o image_png.o
image_pnm.o image_postscript.o image_proc.o image_replace.o
image_rotate.o image_scale.o image_sgi.o image_text.o image_tiff.o
image_type.o image_warp.o image_xbm.o image_xpm.o image_xwd.o
postscript.o ps_core.o ps_draw.o ps_text.o rgb_db.o matrix.o
-L/usr/local/xforms1RC/lib -lXext -lX11 -L/usr/local/lib -L../lib
-lforms -ljpeg -ltiff -lc
/usr/bin/ld: cannot find -lXext
collect2: ld returned 1 exit status

To fix it, I have to force -L/usr/X11R6/lib into several Makefiles in
subdirectories so it can find libXext.so.

This seems to be necessary as long as you DO NOT install xforms in the
standard directory like /usr/X11R6.

Do you have that same experience? Is there an environment flag or other
option I can use to fix it, without changing the xforms source code?

I'll build an rpm so anybody can try LyX with it.

ps: I've confirmed the warning that you must remove your old xforms if
you want to build this new one. It is total hell if you try to build
and it finds your old xforms headers.

Using natbib

2002-11-13 Thread Ernesto Jardim
Hi

I'm using natbib but I want to use parenthetical references by default.
The LaTeX file produced by LyX uses the \cite command, that is treated
as a textual reference by natbib. So the default becomes a textual
reference.

To use parenthetical references it should use either \cite[] or, as
preferred by the natbib author, the \citep command.

How can I change this ?

Thanks

Furthermore when I hit browse after trying to insert a new image, or

have to add the eps option in the pattern.

Have I forgot to install something?

A few ideas about notes:

- we have a bug open about colored notes:
  http://bugzilla.lyx.org/show_bug.cgi?id=97

- it might be a good idea to merge all notes (foot-, margin- and plain)
together and have a way to customize them with a properties dialog.

- it may be a good idea to look at the various notes-related packages
  on ctan, like:
  http://www.tex.ac.uk/tex-archive/help/Catalogue/entries/footmisc.html
  http://www.tex.ac.uk/tex-archive/help/Catalogue/entries/comment.html
  http://www.tex.ac.uk/tex-archive/help/Catalogue/entries/verbatim.html

There are probably many others. It would be a good idea to design
what we want around some existing latex functionality.

I was not aware of these fonts, and they will definitely be useful.
However, I doubt that lyx would be able to use the font right now (we

So why not stick with lyx 1.1.6fix3 (or fix4)? (I presume that's what you
meant, there is no version 1.6.3) I tried lyx 1.2, preferred lyx 1.1, so
that's what I'm sticking with. Yes, the lack of backward compatibility is a
bit of a hassle, but that is a lesson learnt: read the documentation
carefully before installing a new version of a piece of software.
