fancyhdr
Hi I am using fancyhdr on lyx 1.2.1 (and 1.2.2cvs) to put a graphic in the header. the original graphic is a jpg. I've mapped it to a few formats with 'convert'. I find if I include it as an eps file, I can run view-dvi as a jpg or png I can run view - pdf(pdflatex) But I cannot find a format that works both ways. eps files in the document body are viewable or exportable either way. Am I doing something silly here? john

Lyx and style
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA1 Hi all LyXers I have been a LyX user for some time, and I would have a big wad of money to go back to Word and similar programs. I love the fact that you can consentrate on the writing process and leave the typsetting to consistentent scripting language. But here is also the problem with LyX. What happen when your Editor wants you to change the the citation, headings etc. Usually most of the changes can be solved by going to Herberts help page and offer some text to the preamble and the ERT. But often I seem to have at least one change that I draw a blank on, and I have to go and search LaTeX pages around the world. So what is the answer to changing styles. One answer from the LaTeX crowd is docstrip and packages like custom-bib. Sadly these are difficult to use, and time consuming, since they rely on you answering more or less cryptic questions and forces you to answer all questions again if you make one mistake. LyX answer seem to be to add some options in the style menu, but most of these are vetoed by the LaTeX .sty file and are far from exhaustive. Another problem which I still have problems getting to grips on is the Gordian knot that the different .sty files and layout files constitutes. If you make one change in a .sty file the change you make could be undone or redone by other .sty files that are added later. What I would loved was that some people with LaTeX knowledge, programming skills and stamina got together and wrote a LyX style utility. I envisage this LyX-styler as a separate program, and that LyX still comes with a handful of nice usable layouts that would suit most people writing letters, and other none complicated texts. The LyX-styler would be run when people needed a special typesetting. It should write LyX preambles, .layout .bst and .sty-files. It must have a GUI. Is it difficult ? Yes, probably, at least to make a good program. But it shouldn't be impossible. It would be impossible to make a GUI that have all the option TeX and LaTeX has to offer. However, we only need to offer the most common to make it a useful program. In addition it should be built in such a matter that the most used options is included and the ones that are seldom used are removed, in an evolutionary way. Hopeful it will be built in such a manner that it is easy to add and remove options, maybe even on the fly. I put this questions therefore forward to the user-list to open a discussion: Do we need a LyX-styler; is there better ways of dealing with layout issues and, perhaps more importantly, is there people interested in working on such a program.

I put this questions therefore forward to the user-list to open a discussion: Do we need a LyX-styler; is there better ways of dealing with layout issues and, perhaps more importantly, is there people interested in working on such a program. fancyhdr
Hi I am using fancyhdr on lyx 1.2.1 (and 1.2.2cvs) to put a graphic in the header. the original graphic is a jpg. I've mapped it to a few formats with 'convert'. I find if I include it as an eps file, I can run view->dvi as a jpg or png I can run view -> pdf(pdflatex) But I cannot find a format that works both ways. eps files in the document body are viewable or exportable either way. Am I doing something silly here? john

Re: defaults of keymap in LyX-1.2.1
Hi, sorry for answering so later, I had some urgent work to finish ! Finally, I succeed: my bindings work, using META instead of the CTRL. It seems that some CTRL+"something" (e.g. grave) combinations do not work, I don't know why ! Bo Peng told me that the accent-xxx functions do not work with lyx1.2.1 however It works for me ! Here is my .bind: \bind_file /usr/local/share/lyx/bind/cua.bind # Accents \bind "M-apostrophe""accent-acute" \bind "M-comma" "accent-cedilla" \bind "M-S-at" "accent-circle" \bind "M-S-asciicircum" "accent-circumflex" \bind "C-M-period" "accent-dot" \bind "M-grave" "accent-grave" \bind "M-S-asciitilde" "accent-tilde" \bind "C-M-apostrophe" "accent-umlaut" Thanks for all. copy & paste problem with klipper
Hi LyXers, have just installed SuSE 8.1 and KDE 3.0.5. Any copy and paste action makes Lyx (1.2.1) crash when klipper is running in the taskbar. This is resolved when klipper is stopped with right klick/quit. (not disabled) i have no more details for the moment, maybe klipper needs some settings tweeking for better cooperation with LyX. The versions: LyX: 1.2.1 Qt: 3.0.5 KDE: 3.0.5 Klipper: v0.9.2 Linux: 2.4.19-4GB SuSE: 8.1 Bye Peer

You should be able to select the text (using your mouse or keyboard/cursor) and then change the font using Layout->Character. Similarly, Layout->Paragraph will let you change the spacing for the text that you've selected. nirmal
section numbering with new line
Hi, my institution requires a special layout for the work i am currently writing. And there are some requirements which i couldn't fulfill completly with lyx. At the moment i am using book document class. - Section: Section number + new line followed by the section name - Chapters without the text 'Chapter' in the title. And no space above the chapter name. The text 'Chapter' is ommitted by document class book (koma-script) , but koma-script introduces other problems in my layout e.g. way too many space between sections or section name followed by 5cm space in front of the section's text. Can someone help me? Bye Jochen

Where is it available? Anand
