The lines shows up nicely in LyX, but it is placed on a huge white background.
Very anoying.

Any ideas on how to get it to only display the actual picture? Trying to use

htlatex works pretty well on Windows, but I have not tried it on Linux.

I have another idea if your Lyx produced pdf document looks good.
Borrow Adobe Writer ($$$) and enable commenting on your pdf file.
This feature of Writer is intended for collaboration and it comes with
all the bells and whistles, underline, strikeout, arrows, yellow sticky
notes that you can write into at the correct place in the doc, etc. and
the Prof./you just need Reader7 to make use of this once it is enabled.
Your university library or Computer Center may have Writer Pro
software, the campus computer Helpdesk might know where. Then
you could make suggested changes in LyX and produce another pdf,
which would need to be comment enabled again, which is inconvenient
unless you have decent access to the Adobe Writer Pro7 (6?) software.
Enabling commenting is a one-step procedure, once the doc is loaded.
The conversion from LyX to pdf is nearly perfect, unlike other methods.

Stephen

You include the file stdtheorem.inc in articletheorem.layout. This file is
not part of LyX, so you must have got it from somewhere else. Copy it
into the layout file folder, and everything should be fine.

AGU class...

Hello all,

I am trying to install an AGU (American Geophysical Union) latex class
file but I am running in some problems... I use Lyx 1.4.0 version on
Mandriva 2006.

I created an aguclass directory in /usr/share/texmf/tex/latex and
downloaded the aguplus.cls file from AGU's website. I then typed in the
following commands;

[EMAIL PROTECTED] aguclass]# texhash
texhash: Updating /usr/local/share/texmf/ls-R...
texhash: Updating /usr/share/texmf/ls-R...
texhash: Updating /usr/share/texmf-var/ls-R...
texhash: Updating /var/lib/texmf/ls-R...
texhash: Done.

I reconfigured Lyx, but when I wanted to see the output I got the
following error message;

\stop}{}

Valid AGUTeX package names are:

agums, agupp, jgrga, grlga, radga, rtjga, tecga, paleo

It seems like I also need to install another file called agums.sty found
on AGU's website. I would gladly do so if I knew how and where. I am a
bit puzzled because I only had to install a .cls file for Elsevier
articles.

Thanks a lot,

Peter,

Typographers tell us that block quotations should not be placed in
quotation marks. Nor should they be put in a different typeface.
Generally a block quotation is indented and the font size may be the
same or smaller than the body text. See, for example, Robert
Bringhurst's The Elements of Typographic Style.

footnotes in one paragraph plus split

2006-03-17 Thread Marcelo Acuña

In footnotes I solved part of my needs with footmisc
package. With [para] options I get that all footnotes
in one page be in one paragraph. This is nice for work

paragraph be split to the next page, then Latex can´t
fit this unbreak paragraph and put ugly space in this

How I can get all footnotes in one paragraph plus

htlatex works pretty well on Windows, but I have not tried it on Linux.

I then typed in the
following commands;

[EMAIL PROTECTED] aguclass]# texhash
texhash: Updating /usr/local/share/texmf/ls-R...
texhash: Updating /usr/share/texmf/ls-R...
texhash: Updating /usr/share/texmf-var/ls-R...
texhash: Updating /var/lib/texmf/ls-R...
texhash: Done.

I reconfigured Lyx, but when I wanted to see the output I got the
following error message;

\stop}{}

Re: Styling quotes and quotations

2006-03-17 Thread Bruce Pourciau

Peter,

Typographers tell us that block quotations should not be placed in
quotation marks. Nor should they be put in a different typeface.
Generally a block quotation is indented and the font size may be the
same or smaller than the body text. See, for example, Robert
Bringhurst's The Elements of Typographic Style.

footnotes in one paragraph plus split

2006-03-17 Thread Marcelo Acuña
Hello,
In footnotes I solved part of my needs with footmisc
package. With [para] options I get that all footnotes
in one page be in one paragraph. This is nice for work
with lot of short footnotes but I have long and short
ones. Options [para] in footmisc prevent that
paragraph be split to the next page, then Latex can´t
fit this unbreak paragraph and put ugly space in this
page.
How I can get all footnotes in one paragraph plus
pargraph split?

Try with adding a HighResBoundingBox as well, that seem to make it.
So your header should be

%%BoundingBox: 0 0 200 140
%%HiResBoundingBox: 0.0 0.0 200.0 140.0

That should not be needed, the file is perfectly valid with only a normal
bounding box, and gv for example recognizes that.

The reason I am sending this to the User list is that

Everything seems to work. I started with a clean C:\aspell
and installed the new Aspell data files first, as customary.

The *.cmap/cset etc. were installed to C:\Aspell\lib\aspell-0.60
as I think they are supposed to be. But the default on the installer
reads C:\Aspell. Should this default read C:\Aspell\lib\aspell-0.60
like the default for the dictionary install? It doesn't work to change
the default data install to C:\Aspell\lib\aspell-0.60 because an extra
\lib gets inserted, so a user needs to keep the default of C:\Aspell.

the bottom line is use the default, whatever it is,

Mandriva 2006.

I created an "aguclass" directory in /usr/share/texmf/tex/latex and
downloaded the aguplus.cls file from AGU's website. I then typed in the
following commands;

[EMAIL PROTECTED] aguclass]# texhash
texhash: Updating /usr/local/share/texmf/ls-R...
texhash: Updating /usr/share/texmf/ls-R...
texhash: Updating /usr/share/texmf-var/ls-R...
texhash: Updating /var/lib/texmf/ls-R...
texhash: Done.

I reconfigured Lyx, but when I wanted to see the output I got the
following error message;

\stop}{}

Mathieu

Re: Styling quotes and quotations

2006-03-17 Thread Bruce Pourciau

Peter,

Typographers tell us that block quotations should not be placed in
quotation marks. Nor should they be put in a different typeface.
Generally a block quotation is indented and the font size may be the
same or smaller than the body text. See, for example, Robert
Bringhurst's The Elements of Typographic Style.

Hi,

I'm new to LyX, and am using 1.37 on Windows.

I'd like to know if it's possible to style the Quote and Quotation
styles further? In other words, to get a different font and automated
quotation marks around the blocks? Currently my Quotes look like
indented blocks of my text.

Also, what's the difference between the Quote and Quotation styles -
quotation is for larger blocks?

Thanks,
Peter

footnotes in one paragraph plus split

2006-03-17 Thread Marcelo Acuña
Hello,
In footnotes I solved part of my needs with footmisc
package. With [para] options I get that all footnotes
in one page be in one paragraph. This is nice for work
with lot of short footnotes but I have long and short
ones. Options [para] in footmisc prevent that
paragraph be split to the next page, then Latex can´t
fit this unbreak paragraph and put ugly space in this
page.
How I can get all footnotes in one paragraph plus
pargraph split?
Marcelo

Re: LyX Mac 1.4.0 Performance Issue

2006-03-17 Thread Yaron Y. Goland
This applies to top level text. The key seems to be how big the
document is. I have an 8 page document with 12 equations and trying
to type anywhere in that document (even if there are no equations
visible on the screen) will peg my CPU and move so slowly I can type
faster than it can handle.

Is that when typing on toplevel text or inside insets?
