Problem selecting text in LyX 1.6.1 on Ubuntu ardy
Hi I recently upgraded to LyX 1.6.1 from the Ubuntu Universe, and I really like it. I only have one problem: I can not select text when using SHIFT and the LEFT or RIGHT cursor keys, but it works with the UP and DOWN keys. When I selected text (either via mouse or UP or DOWN keys), the selection becomes unselected, when I use the LEFT or RIGHT keys. Is this a problem only on my setup or a bug? Hi Jürgen thanks a lot for the tip below. I checked it, and I had no files in the ui or bind directories in the .lyx directory, and no files with .ui and .bind, but I still had the problem. Re: Fontsize of quotations in report-class (KOMA-script) | Lyx 1.6.1
I would like to change the fontsize of margins and, if possible, also other attributes in report-class (KOMA-script): I would like to have them a little smaller, left adjusted, and without serifs. Is the same also possible for citations, there I would like to change the fontsize also. What I meant were quotations, sorry… KOMA-script uses \setkomafont and \addtokomafont to change the font for different elements of a document. You can read more about it in the srcguide.pdf I didn´t find a possibility to change the font for the quotations. This one doesn´t work: \setkomafont{quote}{\footnotesize\tiny} -- Error: Class scrreprt Error: font of element `quote' can't be set. However, marginal notes and citations are not among these elements. If it is only a few occurrences you can change the font one by one with edit-text style or by adding som ERT. If there are to many you need to redefine the latex-macro for citations and marginpars. How could I do that or read sth on this topic? I guess the reason not to add these elements to the komafont is that citation and margin notes usually are identical to the normal font. From a typographical standpoint this is good advice, imho. :) As I see it, quotations and margin notes are usually written in a smaller fontsize and oftenly use a font without serifs, while the text uses serifs. To use a smaller fontsize seems reasonably for me, as it is just a quotation and the smaller size is also a method to mark the quotations. Is there any method to do this for the whole document, as it worked for the citations also? Thanks, best* Jess

In this case you have for a file on your machine already 'file:///' ! - then follows the location on the server, which is a bit OS dependent ... The main point, in a case like this, is that the backslash (\) is not a valid URI character, nor is it the URI component separator for a hierarchical path. A valid file-scheme URL must use the forward slash (/). There's nothing OS-dependent about that; it's required by the URI specification. -- Michael Wojcik Micro Focus Rhetoric Writing, Michigan State University
Re: Hyperlink question
Tao Cumplido wrote: [I wrote:] Is that a bug? file:C:\file.txt is not a valid URL. It should be file:///c:/file.txt. (Actually, even that isn't strictly valid; the c: ought to be c|. But everyone uses and supports c:.) Ok that kind of works. But how am I supposed to know that the directory has to be written like this? There's no mention about this in the Hyperlink-chapter of the manual. Yes, it'd be nice if the LyX documentation discussed file-scheme URLs in the material on hyperlinks. file-scheme URLs give many Windows users trouble, especially because some Microsoft software (notably IE and Explorer) have very sloppy rules for handling them. In theory, you could figure out how to write them by reading the URI specification (IETF STD0066, if memory serves), but it wouldn't be easy. Jukka Korpela has a discussion on file-scheme URLs, including some notes about how to use them on Windows, here: http://www.cs.tut.fi/~jkorpela/fileurl.html Well, the PDF is processed and it works except in Acrobat where Firefox opens with an empty tab, but I guess that's an Acrobat problem?! This could be the result of the stricter same-domain policy in Mozilla-based browsers, combined with something to do with how Acrobat is invoking Firefox. There's a short comment on that on Jukka's page. There's not much that can be done about it; it's a security measure, so it's supposed to be difficult to circumvent. By the way, you can ignore the bit I wrote above about using c| instead of c:. That's no longer allowed by the current URI specification. A strictly-correct file-scheme URL on Windows would use c%3a for the drive letter and colon. -- Michael Wojcik Micro Focus Rhetoric Writing, Michigan State University

Re: Customizing the TableOfContents
Richard, Thanks a lot. I got this to work finally. I had initially tried something like that before writing this question, but quite naively. I simply said \def\tableofcontents{\indici} and that gave me a stack overflow. This is because indici calls \tableofcontents internally. I now redefined it by copying the code for indici and placing it in the definition of tableofcontents. This time, I replaced the \tableofcontents with \oldtoc. So now my definition looks like: \def\tableofcontents{ loads of stuff before that \iffrontmatter\else\frontmattertrue\fi \oldtoc loads of stuff after that } When you replied to my email, I decided there has to be some way to do this only using this redefinition trick. I was stupid not to think of this earlier, but thanks a lot for your reply that guarantees that modifying Insets won't work for me. The more I thought it was possible to customize Insets, the more I was trying it. I had spent 16 hours modifying Insets and it didn't work. It took me just 2 mins to fix this though. I think I just needed someone to tell me that the solution is not in that route.

What this mean? and How can I repair that? Best Regards, Moosavy
RE: SV: Fontsize of quotations in report-class (KOMA-script) | Lyx 1.6.1
Quotations are not on the komafont-list either, sorry, so you proabably have to change them in the similar way that Jürgen suggested changing the marginpars. I would love to do that - but I do´t know how. What could I insert instead of marginpars? This will give you a smaller font (footnotesize) for quotations in the whole document if put into the preamble: \let\oldquotation\quotation \renewcommand*\quotation{\oldquotation\footnotesize} You could even add fontfamily (\sffamily) and alignment (\raggedleft) along with footnotesize if you want. It shows the LaTeX code corresponding to the current paragraph (or the whole document if you check that button). How could I do that or read sth on this topic? In a good LaTeX book, of course. But there are starter documents that come with every LaTeX installation called *guide.pdf, e.g. /usr/share/doc/texlive-doc/latex/base/usrguide.pdf on my TeXLive on Debian. You do not have to defend your choices :). but it might motivate others to help if they see the meaning of a request... Günter
The number of equations? (Was: Hi)

Hi Adrian, I can't answer your question, but I would like to recommend that you write a suitable subject line when posting to the list. With a good subject, it's easier for others to see what it's about, which increases the likelyhood that someone else will answer your question! Re: Problem selecting text in LyX 1.6.1 on Ubuntu ardy
Hi Jürgen thanks a lot for the tip below. I checked it, and I had no files in the ui or bind directories in the .lyx directory, and no files with .ui and .bind, but I still had the problem. But after deleting the .lyx directory, it worked. What I meant were quotations, sorry… KOMA-script uses \setkomafont and \addtokomafont to change the font for different elements of a document. You can read more about it in the srcguide.pdf I didn´t find a possibility to change the font for the quotations. This one doesn´t work: \setkomafont{quote}{\footnotesize\tiny} --> Error: "Class scrreprt Error: font of element `quote' can't be set." However, marginal notes and citations are not among these elements. If it is only a few occurrences you can change the font one by one with edit->text style or by adding som ERT.

Diff two versions of document
Is there a way to diff two versions of a document? Change tracking shows individual edits, so loses the macro view that a good diff gets. Thanks.

Re: Customizing the TableOfContents
Balaji wrote: Hi, I have a LaTeX class called toptesi that has a special latex command \indici that produces the table of contents, list of figures and list of tables etc., in a specific format. I want to use this using the Inset features of LyX. Now I know that you can insert LaTeX commands in LyX, but this is more for my mother than for me, and so she cannot understand this. I want to create a layout file that will modify the CommandInset for the TOC to generate a different code. This cannot be done without modifying the code. It was a natural idea to try it with InsetLayout, but that only works with collapsable insets, like ERT, footnotes, etc. The present CommandInset for TOC generates the following: \begin_inset CommandInset toc LatexCommand tableofcontents \end_inset Instead of producing this, I want LyX to generate the following code: \begin_inset CommandInset toc LatexCommand indici \end_inset No, this isn't what you want to do. What you want is to change the LaTeX export, not the LyX code. So where LyX generates: \tableofcontents{} you want what? Answer that and your solution will be to put this in the preamble (which you can do in a layout file): \let\oldtoc=\tableofcontents \def\tableofcontents{NEW CODE} This trick is used in the beamer layouts. Export to LaTeX both documents, use latexdiff, reimport the result into LyX Result would be far better if LyX were capable of translating the latexdiff macros into its own revision-specific insets. ERT misbehaviour
Hi, since lyx 1.6 ERT does some strange and unwanted insertion like \foreignlanguage{ngerman} and {} when I modify an existing ERT. You can see this if you open VIEW->Source. Mostly this ERT-modified code does not compile anymore. I found 2 workarounds: - save-close-reopen-compile - Einfügung auflösen - modify - mark - Einfügen ERT Please, give back old ERT behaviour. That sounds like a nice new feature for 1.6.2 doesn't it? To compare two documents and get a diffed version ;-) Yes, I know there is a feature request on this in bugzilla.
