Hi Timo,

Section 3.10 of

Embedded Objects in Lyx Help.

Re: em dash doesn't display

2015-04-18 Thread Richard Opheim
OK, that definitely worked. Under "Settings-Fonts-Roman" I specified "Latin
Modern Roman" and the problem disappeared---which is to say that the
correct em dash (produced by typing three hyphens) appeared. (My solution,
the em dash in the 8th position, looks a little darker than the one in the
7th position and shouldn't be considered a viable option for
professional-level work.) And yes, I am using Adobe Reader to view the
output.
Thanks!

 A comment.
Running Lyx on MX-Linux 14.4, to write a user manual about
the said 14.4, we have had the reverse problem with ems.

In examples of command line instructions we needed multiple
dashes to be separate, only to find that they became ems in the
pdf copy.

The fix is simple, use Ctrl+Alt+dash (Protected Dash), no more
ems of any size.

Gordon.

I found some years ago that whether an em or en dash was visible in
Adobe Reader, which was the pdf viewer I used at that time, depended on
the font. In the default font it wasn't visible unless the zoom level

2015-04-18 Thread Marcus Glöder

Hello all together,

after a test I have made with my LyX (version 2.1.0 on Windows 7) it is
so, that all three em dashes are shown in a PDF file generated with
pdflatex. The em dash, which is generated by three times press of the
hyphen and the em dash, that can be generated under Insert -> special
characters -> Symbols -> General Punctuation -> position 7 seems to be
identical to each other, while the em dash at position 8 is a little bit
longer and a little bit fatter. I do not know, why.

Best regards

Yep. You're right. That's the bug. I try to keep LyX so I don't have to
deal with it often. But others won't. Hope they fix it! LyX and Ubuntu are
both awesome when they are compatible.

Re: em dash doesn't display

2015-04-18 Thread Benedict Holland
I do not know about multiple versions but I can say that typing in 3 dashes
will produce an em-dash and 2 dashes will produce an en-dash. I would be so
bold as to say that if this works other than expected it would be a bug. It
is also possible that multiple versions of the same character will be
context dependant where HTML will use a different em-dash than a type 1
font pdf document.

2015-04-18 Thread Blaine Elswood
No. I have done all the current updates, and the only way I can get the
drop menus working is to change the language into any language and then
change it back again. The drop menus then work fine until you shut down
LyX and the next time you open it up you have to do the same thing again.
(As easy helpfully pointed out to me.) When Ubuntu 15.04 is officially
released this Thursday and LyX users all over the world up grade their
Ubuntu systems, you will probably hear lots of cries for help with this
bug.

em dash doesn't display

2015-04-18 Thread Richard Opheim
In LyX 2.1.3 (on Windows 8.1), I found producing an em dash in my ms to be
difficult , and was not able to find any mention of it on the users' list.
I produced an em dash in two ways: one, by typing three hyphens, and two,
by selecting "insert-special character-symbols-[category] general
punctuation-and then choosing the symbol in the seventh space (em dash.
Actually, both symbols 7 and 8 [counting from the left] appear to be
identical em dashes.) However, the em dash in the 7th space, as well as the
em dash that was supposed to be displayed by typing three hyphens, didn't
display in Document-view pdf latex (though they did display in HTML and
DVI). Instead, I found that the adjacent em dash in the 8th space from the
left did display in pdf-latex.
There seem to be two "versions" each of the hyphen, en dash, and em dash.
Presumably, one is for pdf-latex and the other is for other formats?

I am not sure what you refer to be "the index window". I suppose for now
that you mean the outliner with "Indexes" selected.

I can switch from the filter widget to the workarea with the tab key (but
not back, since the filter widget does not have an accelerator).
