How to turn off math preview?
Could you help me, please, how can I turn off the math formula instant preview in LyX-qt 1.4.1 (linux)? Reasons: 1) slow 2) I cannot see the border of a formula 3) I cannot recognize an empty formula left in the text. With many thanks in advance, Laszlo E. Szabo -- L a s z l o E. no keyboard action in Find and Replace
Hi! In (RH8 + lyx 1.2.1 + Hungarian keyboard) I have the following problem: I start lyx with "env LANG=C" as it is suggested. But still, while all Hungarian characters (I mean \H u and \H o) work well in the main text window, I cannot type them into the Find and Replace window. It is possible to put them there by Copy-Paste, and then the Find/Replace program works normally. But when I am entering them from the keyboard, there is no action at all. No similar problem in (United Linux + lyx 1.2.1 + Hungarian keyboard)! My questions: 1) How to solve this problem? 2) Why is there any difference between the behaviors of the main edit-text window and the Find/Replace window? Best, Laszlo E. Szabo -- L a s z l o E. Solution for Hungarians!
Dear My Fellows Hungarians (and others strange guys planning to edit Hungarian text in LyX), Let me share with you how you can configure Linux + LyX in order to get proper functioning with Hungarian text. Here is the problem: 1) If you install Linux (I have experience about Red Hat 7.2) with default language En, then you will have the following problems: a) Assume you get a Hu winword doc file from people using MS Windows. When open it with Star Office the letters with Hungarian accent (\H{o} and \H{u} in TeX notation) are missed. b) In some editors (like Star Office) keyboard keys corresponding to these characters do not work. c) In LyX (1.1.6fix4 or 1.2pre4) you cannot enter these Hungarian characters into the search/replace window of LyX. (the keys do not work in that window). 2) Now, if you install Linux with default language (and kbd) Hu, then all above problems disappear, but a new problem appears: d) You cannot enter a into the search/replace window of LyX, because pressing LyX starts performing the "replace all" command (be careful!!!). Here is the solution of the problem: A) Install Linux with default language Hu. B) Do not use rpm files for installing LyX. C) Install LyX from the source files, but use ./configure --disable-nls In this way LyX will be installed in English (but still understands the Hu keyboard!) D) Then in Edit > Preferences Screen Fonts Encoding chose iso8859-2 In this way, all of the above problems a)-d) are solved simultaneously. Best, Laszlo E. Szabo -- Laszlo E. No labels in math panel (1.2pre4)

1.2.0: = replace all
Hi, I have the following problem in 1.2.0: In the search/replace window, pressing keyboard key is understood as "Replace all", that is, it starts to replace all. Now, this mistake depends on the Linux default language environment! I have this problem if it is Hungarian. If, however, I reinstall Linux (Red Hat 7.2 + KDE (3.0 or 2.2.) ) with default language English, then the problem disappears. (This is not a new bug. 1.1.6fix4 produces the same problem.) \H{u}
Hi, I'm working with Red Hat 7.2 + KDE3 (Default language: English) + LyX 1.1.6fix4 + Hungarian keyboard. Editing Hungarian text in LyX, OK. When I press the key corresponding to \H{u} or \H{o}, it works properly, types the corresponding letter and shows the correct character on the screen. But, I cannot type this character into the search window. Pressing the key producing nothing. I tried to change the keyboard map in the LyX configuration for Magyar (Hungarian), but it didn't help. Why is there any difference between the search box and the editor itself? Do you know any solution? Best, Laszlo -- Laszlo E. Dear Kent, First, I am not an expert. Second, here is how I solved this: You need: bxform-088.tgz libstdc++-2.95.1_2.10.0-3.i386.rpm ( install with --force) if you have ps figures you probably need to upgrade your gs, so you need: ghostscript-7.00-1.i386.rpm ghostscript-fonts-6.0-2.noarch.rpm gv-3.5.8-11.i386.rpm All these caan be searched on the web. Dangerous BUG: Search/Replace
Hello, RedHat 7.2 (Default=Hungarian) + LyX 1.1.6fix4 I reported a dangerous bug some days ago, but I made a mistake. The actual problem is even more dangerous: Enter a word into the search box AND PRESS (sorry, I wrote in my previous mail). It starts to DELETE all instances of the word you entered. It is dangerous if you have a long part of the document which was not yet saved. Because you cannot step by step undo deleting say 5000 "The"-s in a book (it would take a few hours). The other possibility is to close the file without saving and opening it again without using the autosaved version, which means you lost the not yet saved part of the document. So, you are enforced to make a choice between loosing 5000 "the"-s or loosing the new part of the text you wrote. So, you cannot search, "the apple", for example, because of the space. Re: Copy/paste changes language
Dear JMarc and Juergen, [First, I didn't set language to Bulgarian, of course, because the text is Hungarian:) ] I made the following observation. Here is a little lyx-file: #LyX 1.1 created this file. For more info see http://www.lyx.org/ \lyxformat 218 \textclass article \language magyar \inputencoding auto \fontscheme default \graphics default \paperfontsize default \spacing single \papersize Default \paperpackage a4 \use_geometry 0 \use_amsmath 0 \paperorientation portrait \secnumdepth 3 \tocdepth 3 \paragraph_separation indent \defskip medskip \quotes_language english \quotes_times 2 \papercolumns 1 \papersides 1 \paperpagestyle default \layout Standard Els\i \H{o} közelítésben valóban úgy t\i \H{u} nik, ha ez a kontrafaktuális mondat igaz, akkor a virágok elhervadásának oka Mari nem-locsolása. Úgy értjük, sok minden más mellett, ez egy releváns kauzális faktor. A helyzet azonban ett\i \H{o} l bonyolultabb, hiszen nyilván igaz a következ\i \H{o} mondat is: \begin_inset Quotes pld \end_inset Ha George Buch locsolta volna a virágaimat, akkor nem hervadtak volna el. \begin_inset Quotes prd \end_inset \begin_float footnote \layout Standard A találó példa Jaegwon Kimt\i \H{o} l származik. \the_end 1) Now, open it with LyX 1.1.6fix4. Keep the "foot" closed. Then copy a word from anywher in the text. If you paste it before the "foot", then it is OK. Paste it after the "foot", the problem appears. It changes the language of the word back to English. 2) Now open the "foot"-box by clicking it. Then the problem disappears! 3) You can change the language of the text anything different from English (I tried German, Italian), the problem is the same. 4) Delete "foot": The problem disappears. I hope this observation helps to figure out this little bug. Best wishes, Laszlo On 2002. Dear Juergen, Klyx knows much less then the last version of LyX, that's why I don't want to change for that. But even my LyX 1.1.6fix4 does not produce this problem with all files. When I select a (Hungarian) text, say one word, and put it to another place (say back to the same place!) with copy/paste or cut/paste the pasted text is underlined as if it were not Hungarian (probably English). It is very inconvenient always to select it again and change language to "default" (which is Hungarian in this case). Is this a bug in the editor, or I can configure LyX to make copy/paste without changing the language of the selection back to English? Does anybody have similar experience? Best, Laszlo -- Laszlo E. How to change \paragraph
Could you tell me please how can I change in the preamble (in a book.cls document) the vskip before a new paragraph (I mean \paragraph{} )? I would like to make no skip when I start a new paragraph-section. Thanks in advance! Laszlo -- Laszlo E. Delete instead of Find
Dangerous Bug: RH 7.2 + LyX 1.1.6fix4 Assume I would like to find the word XY in the text. When I write XY into 'Find' box of Edit->Find and Replace (leaving the 'Replace' box empty), and, quite logically, press 'Enter', then it does not jump to the place where the word XY is found, but deletes all XYs from the text.. That is, the problem is that Pressing Enter means Replace All. It is very dangerous. Best, Laszlo -- Laszlo E. eps figures do not appear in the editor
I have RedHat 7.2 + LyX 1.1.6fix4. The eps figures do not appear in the editor, only empty frames. The figure are OK on the printout and ghostview. I hadn't this problem before (RH 7.0 + lyx1.1.5). (Another minor problem, perhaps related: On the math panel two buttons are empty. The one for \sum \int etc. the other for relations like < > = etc. The buttons work correctly, on the other hand.) Thanks in advance for any answers or hints, Laszlo E. Szabo -- Laszlo E.
