If all lyx 1.6.* version don't work for you, perhaps you can try the portable version---Lytex(a experimental portable Lyx which is developed by zoh...@yeah.net not by the official), what you have to do is just extracting them into your local disk and then run lyx, what 's more, u can edit the tex source file in TeXworks(a simple syntax-highlight tex-editor) and convert tex into pdf as well. update issue from 1.6.2 to 1.6.3 using alternative update package
Hi, I use the alternative package ftp://ftp.lyx.org/pub/lyx/bin/1.6.3/LyX-163-4-19-AltInstaller-Update.exe to update my 1.6.2 version. After updating, I found that in "Lyx preference -> paths", it is still D:\Program Files\LyX 1.6.2\bin;d:\Program Files\MiKTeX 2.7\miktex\bin;D:\Program Files\LyX 1.6.2\etc\ImageMagick;D:\Program Files\LyX 1.6.2\etc\Metafile2eps Note, all the folders were still "LyX 1.6.2", so, the Image converter can't work till I change these names to "lyx 1.6.3". This is quite annoying, because, every time, after running update(AFAIK, every update), I have the wrong path in "Lyx preference -> paths". Is there any way that I can do to solve this: for example, use a relative path? or the LyX-163-4-19-AltInstaller-Update.exe can automatically change these paths. Thanks.

I think it's a quirk in the IP implementation within LyX. Suppose that you get it to display correctly. Try editing either equation (2) or equation (3), then move the cursor out of the equation. When I do that, the updated preview switches the number of that equation to (1). The reason is that LyX sends LaTeX a document containing the headers and just that one equation, gets a DVI, converts it to a PNG and displays the PNG in the GUI. Since the document contains only the one equation, it gets numbered (1). In contrast, when you first open the document, LyX sends LaTeX a single document containing all three equations, so they're numbered consecutively ... until you edit one. /Paul Thanks Paul. I totally agree with you. and the instant preview sometime gives the wrong number after editing one equations. Because it is not important issue, I turn off this functionality again.

But Question: => are there reasons for that behaviour of LyX and/or other ways than just trying out, deleting the last inset(s) and remaking them? ==> What might be the reason of the LaTeX-error about "too many flouts" when inserting "footnotes" = sidenotes in the "handout (tufte)" class, even if on the page where I am working and on the horizontal space on the margin there is place enough for another "footnote"=sidenote? Re: [correction] LyXWinInstaller for LyX 1.6.0
Uwe Stöhr wrote: Asm_gmail schrieb: I have found the problem, and find a way to work around it. Actually, I first installed the latest version of basic MikTex 2.7 . During setup, I choose the update option in MikTex's Setting dialog "Install missing pages", of ---> "Ask me first". But when I install the Lyx (both the standard version or the alternative installer), the installer will *automatically* change this option to "Yes". (it seems very strange) This is done purposely Otherwise you will be prompted about 40 times to agree to the package installation. By omitting the prompt, you can go drinking a coffee while the packages are installed consecutively. So, the trick is : (If you have no network or low speed of networks) 1,kill the last step configuration of installation of Lyx. 2,Setting the MikTex update option *back* to "Ask me first". 3,start Lyx to let it initialize configuration , and When some message box prompt to ask whether downloading missing packages. I always choose "cancel". 4,After step 3, the Lyx can work now. This is not working. Because then you don't have a fully working LyX installation. You are then for example not able to compile the documentation files like LyX's User's Guide and you cannot use all LyX features, for example subfloats and other key features. By the way, Even I make a full installation of "basic MikTex 2.7", there are still several missing packages required by Lyx. These are packages only available at special inter pages, mostly class and style files for scientific journals. I'm struggling with this installation problem for about 24 Hours, All what I can do is "install" and "reinstall" of different packages again and again :-( So, you can think how depressed I feel. Anyway, I surely solved this problem at last. I don't understand why you cannot just wait untill all missing LaTeX-packages are installed. I mean you don't need to sit in front of your computer while this is done, you can also do other things in the meantime. regards Uwe Thanks, follow your advice, I completely updated the whole missing packages of Lyx, it takes *One hour*.( a lot of patience need..) But still I can't compile the "tutorial.lyx". A MessageBox reported that" File does not exist..pdf", so, What's wrong with this problem? Thanks.

But it takes *several hours*!!! I can't wait it for too long, So, I just disconnect my networks, then, the installation finished. When I first start the Lyx. It will try to reconfigure and try to connect to the internet to download something. ( In my task manager, cmd.exe, python.exe and latex.exe was running , but No GUI was shown.) It's also a long long time, there is no progress nor a "stop" button to pause the precessing. So, I just disconnect the networks again. And the Lyx screen appeared on my screen. Then, I works fine. Later, each time I start the Lyx, it will do some annoying configuration in console mode(before the main GUI appears), and it will cost an endless time. So, I just disconnect the networks to let the main GUI window comes out. - If I have *no* networks. The installation can't be finished. The console window will be pending until I click the "X" button. Every time I start Lyx, I also see the cmd.exe, python.exe and latex.exe and Lyx.exe are running in the task manager, But all these programs were running behind the screen. No GUI were shown for ever... - I thought it was some thing wrong with the Python script, Because it will always got the state that the configuration was not finished. So, it will run configuration every time lyx started. I'm hoping you other senior developers can solve this problem. Thank you very much.
I should manually install ImageMagick to View images,Why?
Hi, my system is windows Xp, I'm using Lyx 1.60. I installed the alternative installer. But I found that the image can't be displayed in any Lyx files. I installed the ImageMagick-6.4.2-0-Q16-windows-dll.exe to solve the problem. My question is: The alternative installer said that it will install ImageMagick automatically, where is the imagemagick after installing? I can't find these files then. Thanks very much.

LyX 1.6.0 will be the culmination of 15 months of hard work since the release of the LyX 1.5 series. We sincerely hope you will enjoy the result. This is the last planned release candidate. In order to guarantee a stable release of LyX 1.6.0 there are very few changes when compared with the last release candidate (rc4). The changes committed refer to bug and performance fixes and there are no known regressions compared to any of the previous release candidates. As usual with a major release, a lot of work that is not directly visible has taken place. The core of LyX has seen more cleanups and some of the new features are the direct results of this work. The new features in LyX 1.6 are detailed in http://wiki.lyx.org/LyX/NewInLyX16 The file RELEASE-NOTES lists some known issues with this release compared to the current stable release (LyX 1.5.6). An updated list of issues might later be found at http://wiki.lyx.org/LyX/ReleaseNotes In case you are wondering what LyX is, here is what http://www.lyx.org/ has to say on the subject: LyX is a document processor that encourages an approach to writing based on the structure of your documents, not their appearance. It is released under a Free Software / Open Source license. LyX is for people that write and want their writing to look great, right out of the box. No more endless tinkering with formatting details, 'finger painting' font attributes or futzing around with page boundaries. You just write. In the background, Prof. Knuth's legendary TeX typesetting engine makes you look good. On screen, LyX looks like any word processor; its printed output -- or richly cross-referenced PDF, just as readily produced -- looks like nothing else. Gone are the days of industrially bland .docs, all looking similarly not-quite-right, yet coming out unpredictably different on different printer drivers. Gone are the crashes 'eating' your dissertation the evening before going to press. LyX is stable and fully featured. It is a multi-platform, fully internationalized application running natively on Unix/Linux and the Macintosh and modern Windows platforms. You can download LyX 1.6.0rc5 here (the .bz2 are compressed with bzip2, which yields smaller files): ftp://ftp.devel.lyx.org/pub/lyx/devel/lyx-1.6.0rc5.tar.gz ftp://ftp.devel.lyx.org/pub/lyx/devel/lyx-1.6.0rc5.tar.bz2 Note that due to the amount of change, no patch is provided to upgrade from version 1.5.6. Prebuilt binaries (rpms for linux distributions, Mac OS X and Windows installers) should soon be available at ftp://ftp.devel.lyx.org/pub/lyx/devel/ If you find what you think is a bug in LyX 1.6.0rc5, you may either e-mail the LyX developers' mailing list (lyx-devel at lists.lyx.org), or open a bug report at http://bugzilla.lyx.org If you're having trouble using the new version of LyX, or have a question, first check out http://wiki.lyx.org/FAQ/. Re: How I can get the bibliography into each section?
a e wrote: Hello, I just finished to write my Ph.D. thesis with Lyx 1.5.5. I have all the chapters in separate files and one file for the bibliography, the same for all chapters. I'm using Bibtex and I have placed the bibliography inside each chapter. What I want is just to put the bibliography after each chapter using "vancouver" style and sorted according to how the items appers within each chapter. I became silly trying to do it using bibunits without success. The point is if I complie each chapter separatelly, Lyx does everything ok. However, if I build a master file including all the chapters, in the final document the bibliography of each chapter appears all the citations of the document, instead the cited in each section. Anybody can illuminate me? I'm desperate! Specificlly I define the class of document and layout for the master document. Then: Include: Frontcover1.lyx Include: Frontcover2.lyx Insert: General index Include: Introduction.lyx Include: Chapter1.lyx Inlude: Chapter2.lyx ... In each document the box "Sectioned bibliography" is unchecked, and also in the master document. If I check it on the master document, Lyx gives an error. Indeed, all chapters have the same preamble. Thank you! Hi, have you figure it out? I also want to use bibliography for each chapter.

After just inserting some algorithm floats and foolishly trying to add cross-references to them, I finally noticed in the Embedded Objects help file that to do that I needed to add some weird latex magic to the preamble. I've done this now and my latex errors have gone away, and I'm happy again. Is this preamble stuff still required for lyx 1.6? I can't find anything mentioned in the features list. I'm asking because it seems unfortunate that such important features as algorithm floats and cross-references don't play well together. Cameron. In lyx 1.60 rc4 ,In the Menu->Document setting-> PDF properties , You could enable "use hyper ref support", which can natively do the job you mentioned "weird latex magic in 1.5.6". But I'm not sure this functionality support other then PDF output.
