two colors manuscript
Hello We are two authors and one manuscript and we communicate by mail. One of us writes and submits the manuscript (written in one color, let us say black ink) to the other who makes his corrections (addenda, deletiones, etc). We do this in another color (say red) because we don't want to miss anything in the revision. But the only way I know in lyx to do that is: each time I want to insert something in the manuscript go to text style and put the color in red, and this happens each time I add anything. This procedure is boring and error prone. Is there a procedure that do not alter the manuscript color already written but once it has started everything we write is in red, independently of the relative location of each morsel? I'll answer the questions Jose put forward. I have 2 PC both with Fedora 32 installed (english USA), the same software and using mate as a desktop. The only difference is the keyboard, one has spanish keyboard (installed as spanish with dead keys) and the other has an english keyboard (with international english, USA, with dead keys) and in both the lyx behaviour is the same, with qt5 the dead keys are dead and with qt4 they work; are there other options to add?. no accents with dead keys (SOLVED)
A few more pieces on the puzzle of the dead keys 1) Does not depend on the linux distribution, Flavio de Melo in his mail wrote that he has Ubuntu 18.04 and I have Fedora 32 2) Does not depend on the desktop; in my PC i use mate but I can also use gnome. With both desktops there is no dead keys at all. 3) This is intriguing. Both in mate and in gnome when I save a file with a new name, the dead keys work perfectly on the name, I can use accents in it. Perhaps there is a clue in the difference between both calls. no accents with dead keys (SOLVED)
Hi Some time ago I begun a thread about dead keys not working in lyx that ended up with a quite cumbersome and imperfect solution (it didn't work in formulas and was an unmitigated problem in tables); i.e. to write in a non qt-editor and then paste the text. However, a couple of days ago, Flavio Eler de Melo told me in an e-mail the solution. He has the pc under Ubuntu 18.04 which provides both Qt5 and Qt4. He removed qt5 and compiled lyx (even the latest 2.4.0) with Qt4 and the dead keys worked. I'm in fedora 32 and didn't want anything drastic so I downloaded qt4lib and the lyx sources and run configure with the line ./configure --with-qt-dir=/usr/share/qt4 --with-extra-lib=/usr/lib64 --with-version-suffix and ended up with the executable lyx-2.3.5.2 in /usr/local/bin which runs with Qt4 (the dead keys work perfectly) which coexists with the executable (just in case) lyx which runs with Qt5. This thread, suggested by Daniel Clement, is, in fact, a splitting off of a previous track (no accents with dead keys); there it was concluded that, at least, qt5 5.14 has a bug and that 5.11 has not. The bug was that the dead keys are really dead. As a working workaround I tried writing in a non qt application, nedit in my case, and do a copy paste with the mouse in lyx. It worked, all the accents and c cedille appear but the new lines disappear. If I made Insert -> File -> Plain Text the accentuated characters got an icon, meaning I don't know this, but the new lines remained. Same behaviour if I import the text. Therefore the object of this thread: is it possible, with some setting, to have the best of both worlds? I can also confirm that the qt5 5.11 works well. My old setup, fedora 29 and lyx 2.3.3, where all the accents worked had qt5 5.11. By the way, if I write in another application (not qt based) like nedit and made copy and paste with the mouse I obtain the accents but not the newlines, if I insert the file (Insert -> file -> plain text) I obtain the new lines but not the accents (same behaviour if I import the text). Does it exist a setting in lyx in order to have the best of both procedures? Thanks to all of you. I believe I can confirm that this is a qt bug. Following Daniel's suggestion I installed featherpad (a qt application) and it has the same lyx behaviour: the dead keys are really dead. I was going to install from source but I think that it doesn't matter. Has it appeared any workaround? no accents with dead keys
Hallo I have one PC with english keyboard (US international with dead keys) and another one with spanish keyboard (Castilian Spanish with dead keys) both with fedora 32 (since a couple of days) and lyx 2.3.5.2. In both PC have the same problem: the accents work perfectly (e.g. á is " 'a ") when in a terminal, opening nedit, ooffice, etc. but in lyx not only it doesn't work, the dead key is really dead: if I type ' in lyx it doesn't type anything but, there is at least one exception, when saving a file, I can type a name with accents (?) A couple of days ago, I updated the PCs which both were with fedora 29 and lyx 2.3.3 and worked correctly. I tried downgrading lyx to 2.3.4 to no avail. I wanted to install the lyx 2.3.3 of fedora 29 but couldn't. I tried, according to the customization manual, to add the following line to the file .lyx/lyxrc.default accent-circumflex "S-^" to no avail. I created the file .lyx/lyxrc with the same line and with the same result. I looked at some .kmap files in /usr/share/lyx/kbd, specifically at the francais.kmap, espanol.kmap and the european.kmap and all of them have the acents defined. Then I went to Tools -> Editing -> Keyboard/Mouse and included them in turn with no change at all. I looked at /usr/share/lyx/bind and was completely lost; I didn't understand a thing. Searching with google I found some references but also didn't understand them. In the mailing list it is mentioned (in 2019) that there is a workaround related with Qt: to include in .xsessionrc the line export QT_IM_MODULE=xim I created the file with that line but didn't work As now I'm writing in french, which needs all the dead keys combinations, I exclude the use of latex writing style. As conclusion: am I doing anything wrong? The other possibilities I see are: either I'm a lucky guy and I found a bug in lyx or the fedora 32 implementation went askew. Any suggestions? customisable palette
Hi: I'm a relatively new user to lyx and very happy with it. There a couple of features I'd like to see in lyx: 1) Months ago I installed in my PC the styles of the Institute of Physics without a problem. However, I couldn't generate a .layout file in order to incorporate it into lyx. As IOP publishes a lot of scientific european journals, I think it could be quite useful to have its style in lyx. Hi: I'm a relatively new user to lyx and very happy with it. There a couple of features I'd like to see in lyx: 1) Months ago I installed in my PC the styles of the Institute of Physics without a problem. However, I couldn't generate a .layout file in order to incorporate it into lyx. As IOP publishes a lot of scientific european journals, I think it could be quite useful to have its style in lyx.
