LyX 2.0.3 .layout file for LaTeX class apa6 (American Psychological Association (APA), v. 6)

2014-09-22 Thread Alek
Hi all,

as other users of the currently in Debian 7 stable ('wheezy') included
version LyX 2.0.3-3 might also have a need for a current apa6.layout
file usable with this older version of LyX (to be able to use the
LaTeX APA style in version 6), I thought I'll just send it around (see
attached file).
Basically its the version out of the current LyX 2.1.1 source code,
where a few lines got commented and the Format was adjusted.
Although I am quite sure this is not 'the way' to do this, it still
does work for me, and maybe also for others. (Additional hint: you
might want to use apacite, noextraspace as option for the document
class in your LyX document settings)

Greetings,
Alek

Thanks, Jürgen,

yes, I could and did. However, I have quite a lot of lyx files created by
the 2.1 version and was hoping the lyx2lyx would already contain the
conversion 2.1 to 2.0, so that I could run a batch. But, if I understand

Another question:
I start the 2.0.5-1 version right now as

wolfgang/lyx-2.0.5.1$ ./src/lyx
because I ran
make all

and not yet:

make install

The reason is, I am afraid that the new lyx would not allow me to start the

No, you can also run lyx2lyx alone and via batch scripts. You might have to

No, it gets the filename as an argument, and then generates the new

which is a script: usage: %prog [options] [file]. Options are
things like --verbose, --quiet, --debug. Unless you specify an output

So, to process a file oldfile.lyx and get an updated version

No. The development man power is very limited, and so far there is no

version. You can actually read that off of the file lyx2lyx itself,
which is a script: usage: %prog [options] [file]. Options are
things like --verbose, --quiet, --debug. Unless you specify an output
by the option -o outputfilename it will spit the output to stdout.

So, to process a file oldfile.lyx and get an updated version
newfile.lyx, enter on the command line:

/full/path/to/lyx2lyx -o newfile.lyx oldfile.lyx

it worked for me.

Thanks, Jürgen,

yes, I could and did. However, I have quite a lot of lyx files created by
the 2.1 version and was hoping the lyx2lyx would already contain the
conversion 2.1 to 2.0, so that I could run a batch. But, if I understand
correctly, lyx2lyx works only in lyx export, not by itself.

Another question:
I start the 2.0.5-1 version right now as

wolfgang/lyx-2.0.5.1$ ./src/lyx &
because I ran
make all

and not yet:

make install

The reason is, I am afraid that the new lyx would not allow me to start the
lyx2.1 anymore.

So the question is, whether I can either rename the lyx command used now
(for the 2.1svn version) e.g. in lyx21
or the 2.0 version in lyx20,
to be able to start both of them separately

No, you can also run lyx2lyx alone and via batch scripts. You might have to
point to the lyx2lyx directory itself, e.g.

python -tt home/juergen/lyx-devel/lib/lyx2lyx/lyx2lyx -t 413 INPUTFILE >

yes,
./configure --with-version-suffix=20

adds "20" to all binaries and directories.

I use Sid and have Lyx 2.0.3-3 running without problems. But I don't use
kde (or any other desktop environment). Probably worth a bug report -
there was a rather similar one but it's a few years old. See #327988.

I see the lyx 2.0.3-3 in synaptic, but if I am going to install it, a lot

which I do not want to be done.

Does this mean, I have to compile lyx 2.0.3-3 or is there an alternative)?

I'm not a Debian user, so I don't know whether there are alternative packages.
It might be the case indeed that self compiling is your best option. It should
be not difficult to build lyx yourself. But if so, use the latest release

The postinstall script should find your TeX distribution, and if that
doesn't, then certainly the setup that lyx does the first time you start
it should find all related files and programs.

This should never happen. All 2.0.x versions use the same file format. If
the header contains the line with LyX 2.1 mentioned by Scott then the file
was probably opened at least once with LyX 2.1. Then you need to open it in

No, the .lyx file does not contain paths to your TeX installation (on
purpose). If the texlive binary directory is in the PATH environment
variable it works.

Do you use squeeze (stable) or wheezy (testing)? I have .deb packages for
the latter that are 100% drop in replacements of the debian 2.0.3 debs which
I could share.

it is in /usr/share/lyx/lyx2lyx/ so /usr/share/lyx/lyx2lyx/lyx2lyx

Mind you, I compiled and installed lyx 2.0.5-1 in my home/wolfgang/
There are in lyx-2.0.5.1/lib/
a number of lyx2lyx files:
lyx2lyx
lyx2lyx_lang
lyx2lyx_tools
lyx2lyx_version
lyx2lyx_version.py.in
lyx2lyx_version.pyc

this is my (negative) result:
wolfgang@wolfgang:/mnt/sda/home/wolfgang/lyx-2.0.5.1/lib/lyx2lyx$ lyx2lyx
bash: lyx2lyx: Kommando nicht gefunden.
wolfgang@wolfgang:/mnt/sda/home/wolfgang/lyx-2.0.5.1/lib/lyx2lyx$ ./lyx2lyx

this took a rather long time and I stopped it:

main()
File ./lyx2lyx, line 79, in main
doc = LyX.File(**options.__dict__)

  File /mnt/sda/home/wolfgang/lyx-2.0.5.1/lib/lyx2lyx/LyX.py, line 269,
in read
line = self.input.readline()
KeyboardInterrupt

since I did not know what to expect. Does the prg open a kind of menu
in which I can insert the name(s) of the lyx files to be converted to the
lower version

or do I have to add the file name(s) to be converted right after the
./lyx2lyx
?

Thanks,

LyX 2.0 cannot read files made with LyX 2.1. How could it? The 2.1. file
format is constantly evolving. Only the very last release of the 2.0.x series
will be able to read 2.1 files, after the 2.1 file format has been frozen.

So, as already explained by Georg, you need to open those files with LyX2.1

The postinstall script should find your TeX distribution, and if that

This should never happen. All 2.0.x versions use the same file format. If
the header contains the line with LyX 2.1 mentioned by Scott then the file
was probably opened at least once with LyX 2.1. Then you need to open it in

No, the .lyx file does not contain paths to your TeX installation (on
purpose). If the texlive binary directory is in the PATH environment
variable it works.

Do you use squeeze (stable) or wheezy (testing)? I have .deb packages for
the latter that are 100% drop in replacements of the debian 2.0.3 debs which
I could share.

it is in /usr/share/lyx/lyx2lyx/ so /usr/share/lyx/lyx2lyx/lyx2lyx

Mind you, I compiled and installed lyx 2.0.5-1 in my home/wolfgang/
There are in lyx-2.0.5.1/lib/
a number of lyx2lyx files:
lyx2lyx
lyx2lyx_lang
lyx2lyx_tools
lyx2lyx_version
lyx2lyx_version.py.in
lyx2lyx_version.pyc

this is my (negative) result:
wolfgang@wolfgang:/mnt/sda/home/wolfgang/lyx-2.0.5.1/lib/lyx2lyx$ lyx2lyx
bash: lyx2lyx: Kommando nicht gefunden.
wolfgang@wolfgang:/mnt/sda/home/wolfgang/lyx-2.0.5.1/lib/lyx2lyx$ ./lyx2lyx

this took a rather long time and I stopped it:

^CTraceback (most recent call last):

main()
File ./lyx2lyx, line 79, in main
doc = LyX.File(**options.__dict__)

  File /mnt/sda/home/wolfgang/lyx-2.0.5.1/lib/lyx2lyx/LyX.py, line 269,
in read
line = self.input.readline()

Thanks, Jürgen.
What is the difference between a smaller binary and normal binary in respect
to funtionality of Lyx? -->

4) make install
will install it. You can use "make install-strip" instead

I never used "make install-strip" myself, but I think it just strips off the

If you remove (or rename so as to backup) your user directory, and

Scott,
not sure I understand you correctly. Do you mean I should change

wolfgang@wolfgang:/mnt/sda/home/wolfgang (/lyx-2.0.5.1$)

into

wolfgang@wolfgang:/mnt/sda/home/wolfgang-A

or shall I create a new user and compile lyx there?

Note that I compiled LyX in a directory on my /home/wolfgang
called (and in fact created by the downloaded tar-file)

lyx-2.0.5.1

and the lyx20 used before resides in its own dir on /home/wolfgang and was
installed from there too, so no general installation on the root-dir

I was referring to your LyX user dir, usually ~/.lyx. But you said
that it was .lyx20 so the previous preferences were in the .lyx20
folder? Just to test, you could run
./src/lyx -userdir /tmp/tempuserdir
LyX will ask you if you want to create the new directory. Click yes.
See if you get the same errors.

Now it works after following your advices. Two questions left:

1-
former lyx 2.0.5-1 created lyx files which lyx 2.0.3-3 does not take:
Blumenuhr-neu20120302.lyx stammt von einer neueren LyX-Version, aber das
lyx2lyx-Skript konnte das Dokument nicht konvertieren

I understand, lyx2lyx could take care of it outside lyx, but
bash: lyx2lyx: Kommando nicht gefunden
do I have to get the prg from somewhere else or do I use it incorrectly (a
py file?)

2-
I use texlive, do I have to give the path to it in the lyx file or
additionally somewhere else?

Thanks, Scott, for your help.

This is strange. If you open the lyx files in a text file, what are
the first two lines of the files? For example, in one file I have:
#LyX 2.1 created this file. For more info see http://www.lyx.org/
\lyxformat 445

Also, do you mean the other way around? That lyx 2.0.3~3 created files
that lyx 2.0.5~1 can't read? This is still equally strange, but I'm
confused as to if the newer LyX you installed is 2.0.5~1 or 2.0.3~3

If it doesn't work when called from within LyX it won't work when
called outside of it.

Do you mean for lyx2lyx? I don't think lyx2lyx is supposed to be in
PATH. The LyX configure script should take care of things in general.

For reasons I don't understand, debian does not put the lyx2lyx file in
your path. On my machine (testing, not unstable, but it is the same),
it is in /usr/share/lyx/lyx2lyx/ so /usr/share/lyx/lyx2lyx/lyx2lyx

The postinstall script should find your TeX distribution, and if that
doesn't, then certainly the setup that lyx does the first time you start
it should find all related files and programs.

This should never happen. All 2.0.x versions use the same file format. If
the header contains the line with LyX 2.1 mentioned by Scott then the file
was probably opened at least once with LyX 2.1. Then you need to open it in
2.1 again and export it to 2.0 format.

So, in short: I used so far a higher lyx-version (2.1.0svn) as I want to

Mind you, I compiled and installed lyx 2.0.5-1 in my home/wolfgang/
There are in lyx-2.0.5.1/lib/
a number of lyx2lyx files:
lyx2lyx
lyx2lyx_lang
lyx2lyx_tools
lyx2lyx_version
lyx2lyx_version.py.in
lyx2lyx_version.pyc

this is my (negative) result:
wolfgang@wolfgang:/mnt/sda/home/wolfgang/lyx-2.0.5.1/lib/lyx2lyx$ lyx2lyx
bash: lyx2lyx: Kommando nicht gefunden.
wolfgang@wolfgang:/mnt/sda/home/wolfgang/lyx-2.0.5.1/lib/lyx2lyx$ ./lyx2lyx

this took a rather long time and I stopped it:

^CTraceback (most recent call last):
  File "./lyx2lyx", line 86, in
main()
File "./lyx2lyx", line 79, in main
doc = LyX.File(**options.__dict__)
  File "/mnt/sda/home/wolfgang/lyx-2.0.5.1/lib/lyx2lyx/LyX.py", line 703,
in __init__
self.read()
  File "/mnt/sda/home/wolfgang/lyx-2.0.5.1/lib/lyx2lyx/LyX.py", line 269,
in read
line = self.input.readline()
KeyboardInterrupt

since I did not know what to expect. Does the prg open a kind of menu
in which I can insert the name(s) of the lyx files to be converted to the
lower version

or do I have to add the file name(s) to be converted right after the
./lyx2lyx
?

LyX 2.0 cannot read files made with LyX 2.1. How could it? The 2.1. file
format is constantly evolving. Only the very last release of the 2.0.x series
will be able to read 2.1 files, after the 2.1 file format has been frozen.

So, as already explained by Georg, you need to open those files with LyX2.1
once more and the export it to LyX 2.0.x from there.

Lyx 2.0.3 - SIAM document class problem - theorem is the default environment

2012-06-09 Thread Dima
After upgrade to Lyx 2.0.3 the following problem surfaced: if I am editing a
document with SIAM document class, every time I want to start a new paragraph
with [ENTER] a new theorem environment is created instead of Standard. I guess
this has something to do with the environment order as appears in the
environment
dropdown (i.e. Theorem is first).

Is there any way to fix this?

Thanks,
Dima Batenkov

Answering my own question, the importing of the theorems module should be done
after the declaration of the Standard environment in siamltex.layout.

Could someone please reminds me where to get the latest Lyx (2.0.3) for

Their repositories are shamefully out of date (they offer 2.0.2). I know it
exists somewhere,
but cannot find it. I tried to get it from getdeb but failed.

Did someone test whether this works with Debian, too?

I wouldn't do that. To the best of my knowledge Ubuntu distros are not
binary compatible with Debian distros. If you want 2.0.3 on Debian, I
would suggest that you take it from Testing or Unstable [1].
