LyX 2.0.3 .layout file for LaTeX class apa6 (American Psychological Association (APA), v. 6)
Hi all, as other users of the currently in Debian 7 stable ('wheezy') included version LyX 2.0.3-3 might also have a need for a current apa6.layout file usable with this older version of LyX (to be able to use the LaTeX APA style in version 6), I thought I'll just send it around (see attached file). Basically its the version out of the current LyX 2.1.1 source code, where a few lines got commented and the Format was adjusted. Although I am quite sure this is not 'the way' to do this, it still does work for me, and maybe also for others. (Additional hint: you might want to use apacite, noextraspace as option for the document class in your LyX document settings) Greetings, Alek apa6.layout Description: Binary data signature.asc Description: PGP signature

So, to process a file oldfile.lyx and get an updated version newfile.lyx, enter on the command line: /full/path/to/lyx2lyx -o newfile.lyx oldfile.lyx Caution: This converts to the latest version known by lyx2lyx. If you copy the 2.1 lyx2lyx into the 2.0 installation as suggested elsewhere (which works without further adjustments, and is probably the most easy way to deal with files in the new format), you always have to give the -t 413 arguments if you want to convert to 2.0.x format. But, if I understand correctly, lyx2lyx works only in lyx export, not by itself. Another question: I start the 2.0.5-1 version right now as wolfgang/lyx-2.0.5.1$ ./src/lyx & because I ran make all and not yet: make install The reason is, I am afraid that the new lyx would not allow me to start the lyx2.1 anymore. Then, 2.0 will be able to open 2.1 files with auto-conversion. AFAIK, this is described somewhere in the wiki. Günter

install lyx 2.0.3-3 linux debian
I used to use lyx 2.1.0.svn but was several time reminded that this is an experimental version. I therefore decided to change to debian sid since squeeze does not offer lyx 2.0.3-3. After changing in the /etc/apt/sources.list squeeze to sid I see the lyx 2.0.3-3 in synaptic, but if I am going to install it, a lot of packages would be removed such as k3b kaffeine kde-full ... texlive etc which I do not want to be done. Does this mean, I have to compile lyx 2.0.3-3 or is there an alternative)? Wolfgang

All 2.0.x versions use the same file format. If the header contains the line with LyX 2.1 mentioned by Scott then the file was probably opened at least once with LyX 2.1. No, the .lyx file does not contain paths to your TeX installation (on purpose). If the texlive binary directory is in the PATH environment variable it works. For reasons I don't understand, debian does not put the lyx2lyx file in your path. On my machine (testing, not unstable, but it is the same), it is in /usr/share/lyx/lyx2lyx/ so /usr/share/lyx/lyx2lyx/lyx2lyx filename filename should work. All 2.0.x versions use the same file format. If the header contains the line with LyX 2.1 mentioned by Scott then the file was probably opened at least once with LyX 2.1. Scott, not sure I understand you correctly. Do you mean I should change wolfgang@wolfgang:/mnt/sda/home/wolfgang (/lyx-2.0.5.1$) into wolfgang@wolfgang:/mnt/sda/home/wolfgang-A or shall I create a new user and compile lyx there? Note that I compiled LyX in a directory on my /home/wolfgang called (and in fact created by the downloaded tar-file) lyx-2.0.5.1 and the lyx20 used before resides in its own dir on /home/wolfgang and was installed from there too, so no general installation on the root-dir Wolfgang I was referring to your LyX user dir, usually ~/.lyx. But you said that it was .lyx20 so the previous preferences were in the .lyx20 folder? Just to test, you could run ./src/lyx -userdir /tmp/tempuserdir LyX will ask you if you want to create the new directory. Click yes. Now it works after following your advices. Two questions left: 1- former lyx 2.0.5-1 created lyx files which lyx 2.0.3-3 does not take: Blumenuhr-neu20120302.lyx stammt von einer neueren LyX-Version, aber das lyx2lyx-Skript konnte das Dokument nicht konvertieren I understand, lyx2lyx could take care of it outside lyx, but bash: lyx2lyx: Kommando nicht gefunden do I have to get the prg from somewhere else or do I use it incorrectly (a py file?) For reasons I don't understand, debian does not put the lyx2lyx file in your path. On my machine (testing, not unstable, but it is the same), it is in /usr/share/lyx/lyx2lyx/ so /usr/share/lyx/lyx2lyx/lyx2lyx filename filename should work. 2- I use texlive, do I have to give the path to it in the lyx file or additionally somewhere else? The postinstall script should find your TeX distribution, and if that doesn't, then certainly the setup that lyx does the first time you start it should find all related files and programs. -- David L. All 2.0.x versions use the same file format. If the header contains the line with LyX 2.1 mentioned by Scott then the file was probably opened at least once with LyX 2.1. Then you need to open it in 2.1 again and export it to 2.0 format. > I understand, lyx2lyx could take care of it outside lyx, but > bash: lyx2lyx: Kommando nicht gefunden > do I have to get the prg from somewhere else or do I use it incorrectly (a > py file?) > > 2- > I use texlive, do I have to give the path to it in the lyx file or > additionally somewhere else? No, the .lyx file does not contain paths to your TeX installation (on purpose). If the texlive binary directory is in the PATH environment variable it works. Do you use squeeze (stable) or wheezy (testing)? I have .deb packages for the latter that are 100% drop in replacements of the debian 2.0.3 debs which I could share. Georg

The 2.1. file format is constantly evolving. Only the very last release of the 2.0.x series will be able to read 2.1 files, after the 2.1 file format has been frozen. So, as already explained by Georg, you need to open those files with LyX2.1 once more and the export it to LyX 2.0.x from there. Jürgen
Lyx 2.0.3 - SIAM document class problem - theorem is the default environment
After upgrade to Lyx 2.0.3 the following problem surfaced: if I am editing a document with SIAM document class, every time I want to start a new paragraph with [ENTER] a new theorem environment is created instead of Standard. I guess this has something to do with the environment order as appears in the environment dropdown (i.e. Theorem is first). Is there any way to fix this? Thanks, Dima Batenkov
