It is not done currently, because the update is really slow.

Yes, problem solved. I've updated bugzilla and marked the bug as
"WORKSFORME". Do you want me to file a new one, as a feature request?

No, I had not, and wasn't aware of the need to do so. I had thought
Reconfigure would take care of that kind of thing. It's unintuitive, at
least to me, that it doesn't, since Reconfigure does update the LaTeX
classes, so I'd suggest that perhaps Reconfigure should also update the
list of BibTeX styles.

Moreover, LyX 1.3.5 apparently finds the style file if it's in the
same
folder as the lyx file. I didn't have to put the style file in my
local

TeX tree.

This works for me too.

Hmm, LyX 1.3.5 does have a Browse button next to the drop-down list of

All bst files that can be found via kpsewhich should show up in the list.
That works for me, both with a personal texmf path that I put in TEXINPUTS,
and a department wide texmf path set with TEXMFLOCAL.

Does
kpsewhich heck.bst

find the style? If yes, please file a bug report at http://bugzilla.lyx.org.

The .bst files and the corresponding .sty go in different

I've also seen /localtexmf recommended for this.

To refresh the filename database I think "texhash" works
and then I run Reconfigure from Lyx which may not be needed.

I have had to create the "package" directory name, but it
will probably work just putting the file in ~/bibtex/bst.

Run 'locate .bst' to see where the others are. Move your new one
there. From within LyX run 'reconfigure'; kill the process, and
restart it. It should be there as an option for you in the
bibliography section of the Document dialog box.

Re: New BibTeX Style

2006-07-10 Thread Richard Heck

Use your file-search tool to find alpha.bst. Or try "kpsewhich
alpha.bst". You can put your bst files in roughly the same place and
then run texhash, or whatever the equivalent "update the tex directory
structure" command is on the Mac. Even better is to create a local tex
directory structure under your home directory and put such files there.
In my case, those files are at /home/rgheck/texmf/bibtex/bst/base/.
Exactly where your local tree should be is determined by texmf.cnf.
(Again, find this using kpsewhich or your file-find tool.) That file
defines a variable HOMETEXMF, which in my case is $HOME/texmf. You can
of course define it as you wish.

I don't know how to get these to show up in the bibliography listing, or
even if that is possible. But you can always get to them manually, using
the "browse" button.
