Since I originated this thread I must admit I started this practice of
"install all on root" and "all exe's in path" when I was using the
Cygwin version and have not changed my ways since then. From what I've
read in general over the past view days this is now an unnecessary step,
and I must admit I have to agree at least as far as AcroRd32 is
concerned. I've since amended my (own) notes to reflect these opinions.

However, as yet the only way I have managed to get newer Sed working is
to follow this procedure but hey that’s another matter

What you follow with is I'm sure pretty much the case now.

On top of anything else that might be going wrong, you seem to be missing
at least one (and possibly two) files. Note the message that sed can't
find LaTeXConfig.lyx.in. When I installed Ruurd's 1.3.3 port, that file
and LyXConfig.lyx.in were both missing. Check your /doc
directory, which is where they should be. If they are missing, either
grab them from an older version, or from the source distribution, or e-
mail me and I'll send you copies (they're small). Park the files in the
doc directory and try again.
You can download the files from:
http://www.lyx.org/cgi-bin/viewcvs.cgi/lyx-devel/lib/doc/LaTeXConfig.lyx.in
and
http://www.lyx.org/cgi-bin/viewcvs.cgi/lyx-devel/lib/doc/LyXConfig.lyx.in

First assure that you use the actual memoir.layout. You can download it

from here:

http://www.lyx.org/cgi-bin/viewcvs.cgi/lyx-devel/lib/layouts/memoir.layout

This worked beautifully, it was quite stupid of me not to think about deleting
the three memoir layouts previously posted from my local .lyx/layouts directory,
but doing that and using your link to get the memoir.layout has now sorted
everything out.

The default home directory in WinXP is Documents and Settings/...
-> a directory with spaces, is that an issue? I have not been able to figure
how to change the home directory to a regular directory without spaces do
you know how?
This is not an issue if you follow Ruurds instructions not to install
LyXWin under a folder with spaces in its name.

The user settings are saved by LyXWin under Documents and
Settings/user/.lyx, but this works fine on all Win-platforms.

Re: Lyx Win32 setup notes - some anotations

2004-03-15 Thread Uwe Stöhr
I can reconfigure without problems but following this there are still couple
of "bugs":
1. Trying to read Latex configuration from the menu or the file in the .../share/doc/
directory gives the message it is not a lyx file, the file is not created
i.e. it has 0 bytes.
This is a well known bug, but doesn't make any troubles.

2. All document styles work except article memoir and book memoir when lyx
chokes and exits with asking me to send a error report to microsoft!!
First assure that you use the actual memoir.layout. You can download it
from here:
http://www.lyx.org/cgi-bin/viewcvs.cgi/lyx-devel/lib/layouts/memoir.layout

The next step is to copy the file into the directory \lyx\share\lyx\layouts

Now restart LyX and reconfigure it, because as you can see in your
configuration output:

+checking for linuxdoc class manpage... no
+checking for document class mwart [mwart]... yes
LyX didn't check for memoir. If you use MiKTeX, the necessary
LaTeX-package 'memoir' will be installed on the fly while reconfiguring
LyX. If not or if you disabled this MiKTeX feature, install the package
before reconfiguring LyX. When you get

+checking for linuxdoc class manpage... no
+checking for document class memoir [memoir]... yes
+checking for document class mwart [mwart]... yes
all should be fine.

I hope this solves your problem.
regards Uwe
