The truncation (in configure.log, or in the terminal) is independent of the
size of the windows/shell/terminal where I run configure.py
This make sense. But why this truncation?
It seems that you use a line format to generate this output!
How can I not run configure.py in a terminal? I use gnome-terminal all the time.

It is TeX doing that when writing to its log file. I do not know
unfortunately how to prevent that.

I have not tried this, but I think the following should work (based on
the Stack Exchange answer you linked). In LyX, go to Tools >
Preferences... > File Handling > Converters. What follows would have to
be repeated for each method you use to compile LaTeX documents. I'll use
pdflatex as an example. In the Converter Definitions box, scroll until
you find "LaTeX (pdflatex) -> PDF (pdflatex)" and select it. Using the
Stack Exchange answer as guidance, modify the "Converter:" setting to
use the texliveonfly command (retaining $$i, which represents the input
file) and tweak the "Extra flag:" setting as needed to tell texliveonfly
that you are using pdflatex. Then click "Modify" followed by "Apply",
and test it.

It is good idea to run
apt-get build-dep lyx
to get all needed dependencies when compiling in debian.

1.) you need the package libqt5x11extras5-dev
2.) also the package libqt5svg5-dev
3.) libice-dev # probably you need only libice6 here
4.) qtbase5-dev

Would you, please?
See below.

PS: the Latex log of my newly created document reports the path
/usr/local/texlive/2016/
I take that as an indication that LyX 2.2 has automatically accessed
LT2016 !?

Yes it is. The problem is that your libraries are not usable (32bits

Dear Jean-Marc,
after reading your above comment last night I started RPM Search and
found libmagic x86_64 versions which I tried to install.
And when I started *another computer* this morning Mageia's Software
Manger offered

lib64magic-devel and php-devel, both x86_64.

Coincidence or luck or whatever it was, the installation of Lyx 2.2.0
(as root) ran smoothly without any complaint and Lyx 2.2 showed up.

At this point I would like to thank you for helping me!

One more question though: What to do next to give LyX access to TL2016?
I have TL2016 installed and the GUI is active.
Mageia's Software manager offers eight texlive2013 packages, but non of
it installed.

I started Lyx 2.2, created a new document (KOMA article) and exported it
to PDF - all worked fine.
One user advised to type '/usr/local/texlive/2016/bin/x86_64-linux' in
the PATH prefix of Lyx's Preferences - which I haven't done yet.

So, are there no further actions to be taken from my side ?

Great help and great programs!

Cheers,
Michael

Mageia's Software manager offers eight texlive2013 packages, but non of
it installed.

I started Lyx 2.2, created a new document (KOMA article) and exported it
to PDF - all worked fine.
One user advised to type '/usr/local/texlive/2016/bin/x86_64-linux' in
the PATH prefix of Lyx's Preferences - which I haven't done yet.

So, are there no further actions to be taken from my side ?

Great help and great programs!

Cheers,
Michael

lyx-2.2.0 installation ./configure cannot find libmagic

2016-06-26 Thread Michael Berger

Hi dear Lyx users,

I downloaded lyx-2.2.0.tar.gz, extracted it and after cd to
/.../lyx-2.2.0 run

# ./configure
it run till the end but then said to have found "minor problems":
Cannot find libmagic. Check that the libmagic library is correctly
installed.

Falling back to builtin file format detection.

Contradicting enough, it continues saying:
Configuration of LyX was successful.
Type 'make' to compile the program, and then 'make install' to install it.

But running 'make' also ends up with errors.

I found libmagic here:

/usr/src/php-devel/extensions//fileinfo/libmagic
with 23 files in /libmagic suffixed .c or .h

Could somebody please help with this?

I have Mageia5 / KDE

Thanks and cheers,
Michael

That is normal. LyX supports many more classes than anyone would ever
need and, more
importantly, than a standard LaTeX installation would install. So
there's not really anything
more to fix, unless you want to use one of those classes. In that case,
you just need to install

the relevant LaTeX files.

And actually, you can *use* the class within LyX. You just won't be able
to compile.

LyX is complaining that it cannot find the class file associated with

is scrartcl.cls. Try running:
# kpsewhich scrartcl.cls

If you do see it, then try running Tools Reconfigure. If that does not
work, then you
may be running into a python incompatibility that we have sometimes seen

These are more puzzling. It may be that you have the python problem, but try

2014-01-17 Thread rajender saini
Thanks Rainer, I am able to generate diagram into lyx master file using the
steps shared by you. Thank you very much.

My master file include the .plantuml file as graphic as suggested by you
and it is working fine.

I wanted to export whole file as PDF so

Next I used inkscape to convert SVG to PDF by adding convertor.

when i run export as PDF image is not included into the master PDF doc.

I can see the SVG to PDF conversion happening into the temp cache
directory. but somehow it is not included into master file any pointer will
help.

automatically get it converted into image when we include it into
  the lyx master file ?

 Sure.

I will CC it to the LyX list to have it there for reference.

I assume you have downloaded plantuml.

 1) Define a new File Format, named plantuml:

Vector graphics format: I ticked it - what are actually the
 implications of this field?
 Short name: plantuml
 Extension: plantuml
So all files with the extension .plantuml will be considered as
 plantuml source code files files!

Editor: I choose Emacs, but set any text editor you want.

In the preferences files, this corresponds to the following line in
 the formats section:

\format plantuml plantuml plantuml open -n -a Emacs
 - --args --name LyX --title LyX --no-desktop vector

Now we have to define the converters, i.e. how to convert the plantuml
file into a format usable by the converter chain in LyX. This now
depends on you installed converters, but I got the best results when
using svg as the *only* output format of plantuml, and then use the
standard converter tools of LyX to convert these into the required
 formats.

The conversion of svg (a vector format) to eps, PDF and PNG
is done by rsvg, which is detected and configured automatically by
LyX. If you don't have it installed, install it and re-configure :LyX
 and it should be detected.

Coming back to plantuml: The converter to be defined converts the
.plantuml to a graphics format .svg (vector):

 - From format: plantuml
 To format: SVG
 Converter: /Users/rainerkrug/bin/plantuml $$i -ofile $$o -tsvg

 The preference file line is:

 \converter plantuml svg /Users/rainerkrug/bin/plantuml $$i -ofile
 $$o -tsvg

The last step: What is the file /Users/rainerkrug/bin/plantuml? It is
*not* the .jar file but the following:

 ### BEGIN FILE ##
 #!/bin/sh
 # PlantUML Launcher
 #
 # This script is free software; you can redistribute it and/or modify it

 $JAVA -jar ~/jar/plantuml.jar -graphvizdot /usr/local/bin/dot ${@}
 ### END FILE ##

It is from https://gist.github.com/eelcocramer/4502562 and it simply
 makes
 calling plantuml much easier.

Make sure tht this ~/bin/plantuml is executable!

Now, in LyX, you simply have to add a .plantuml file as a picture, and
you should be able to edit it via right-mouse-click and it should be
converted into all the needed formats.

Now This worked for me under Mac (I am using it right now) and Linux
(used it before). There might be differences under Windows, but I
would suggest to ask on the mailing list if you don't get it to work,
so that therte is a reference to this.

 Hope this helps,

 Rainer

Make sure tht this ~/bin/plantuml is executable!

Now, in LyX, you simply have to add a .plantuml file as a picture, and
you should be able to edit it via right-mouse-click and it should be
converted into all the needed formats.

Now This worked for me under Mac (I am using it right now) and Linux
(used it before). There might be differences under Windows, but I
would suggest to ask on the mailing list if you don't get it to work,
so that therte is a reference to this.

 Hope this helps,

 Rainer

#!/bin/sh
# PlantUML Launcher
#
# This script is free software; you can redistribute it and/or modify it

### END FILE ##

It is from https://gist.github.com/eelcocramer/4502562 and it simply makes
calling plantuml much easier.

LyX only supports a (compared to CTAN) small subset of popular LaTeX

Rule of thumb:

* if it is grey in the class selection drop-down box, the latex class is
  missing (or not found).

* if it does not turn up in the menus, the LyX layout (or module) is

This is cumbersome, and several latex classes to do not report the
origin of their .cls file (ie article or book and such) and so when I
manually add the .layout file to lyx, lyx cannot understand it. Can I
automate the process of adding the latex classes to lyx and having

Writing a script for generating LyX layouts (or layout templates)
might be a task worth considering. I don't know of an existing

I can´t get that my debian lenny find my new qt libs
 installed.
How I can to use pkg-config for get it?

Do you have 'pkg-config' installed? Normally it should
 work
 automatically. Otherwise, did you try
 '--with-qt4-dir=/usr/share/qt4/'?

I have installed pkg-config but I don´t know how to use it.
I try with '--with-qt4-dir=/usr/share/qt4/' but this work fine with lyx 1.6.7

With 2.O I can compile it without error but I can´t run it.

It gives the same error as in the original post, for both alpha5 and
6. (Should I send the config.log?) I am suspecting that this is
something peculiar to VMware and its Ubuntu installation. When I
installed Xubuntu Lucid on my netbook I had no issues configuring the

The answer is probably in config.log. Can you send it?

Please find it at this link.

What happens if you just use ./configure without any qt4 option?
It works well here on Karmic and Lucid.

It gives the same error as in the original post, for both alpha5 and
6. (Should I send the config.log?) I am suspecting that this is
something peculiar to VMware and its Ubuntu installation. When I
installed Xubuntu Lucid on my netbook I had no issues configuring the
alphas.

Yes, please send the config.log. I am curious to see what the problem is.
