Dear Paul,

Good news: this will be fixed in LyX 2.4.2. In the meantime, you can
disable 'use system colors' in Preferences | Look | Colors.

Hope this helps,

Hmm, I have never seen this one!

One possibility would be to find your user directory (it is indicated in the
About LyX dialog) and add in the "preferences" file that is there the line
\draw_strategy backingstore and then restart LyX. Does it work?

It seems to me LyX should not favor one distribution over another if there is
only cursory and occasional information about using them with LyX. I do not
wish to complain in a similar fashion about TeXLive, but one may easily find
problems with TeXLive on Windows; see e.g.
https://tug.org/pipermail/tex-live/2024-May/thread.html. Twice in one month! So
perhaps it is best to maintain a neutral view on LyX's website.

I've done the same thing multiple times before. This happens to me when
downloading .cls files for me. Sometimes my automatic wget download
"succeeds" but it ends up being an html message that tells me the file

OK... the installer software on Windows suggested I should remove the old

Anyways, I un-installed LyX 2.4 RC4, and installed LyX 2.4. Both LyX 2.4 and

LyX 2.4 - Emph keyboard shortcut not working in OS X 14.4.1

Thank you for releasing this amazing piece of software!

However, I am running into an annoying bug in Lyx 2.4 on OS X 14.4.1 (I
cannot post to the bug tracker due to lack of privileges). The cmd+e
command no longer works to turn emphasis on/off. cmd+b (bold) and cmd+u
(underline) still work as expected.

This is with the LyX-2.4.0+qt5-x86_64-arm64-cocoa binary, freshly
downloaded.

Jéssica, an off-topic question out of curiosity: do you use instant
preview to view math? If not, do you know about LyX math macros? I
wonder if you might like using a math macro for your \setsep command,
for example. If you don't mind the LaTeX, then no need to change
anything but thought I would ask just in case. If you're curious, I
could make an example .lyx file with a math macro for \setsep.

I prefer to use Lyx 2 3.7 for now, it is working well enough. I tried Lyx
2.4 for curiosity. I see no reason to use XeTeX or LuaTeX for now,

considerably slower than TeXlive on my machine for some reason.

But I think Lyx should not change a literal LaTeX code that I insert

https://github.com/abntex/abntex2-contrib/blob/master/lyx/2.2.X/abntex2.layout

The only problem I got with Lyx 2.3 was a bunch of error messages for

'abntex2' loads hyperref with no options, which conflicts with Lyx
code generation. Besides, Lyx configuration does not work, (PDF file

in Lyx suppresses the error messages and PDF bookmarks and links are
correctly set.

Adding

I'm not familiar with nomenclature and stuff, but someone else will be.

I think I'll have to file many bug tracker tickets for each error.

Some bugs with Lyx 2.3 and a lot of bugs with Lyx 2.4 using abntex2 document class

2023-12-25 Thread Jéssica Milaré
Good morning.

I'm writing a thesis using Lyx 2.3.7 using the 'abntex2' document class,
which creates documents according to Brazil's technical norms (ABNT). I got
the layout for Lyx 2.2 from the url below and everything seems to be
working well.

https://github.com/abntex/abntex2-contrib/blob/master/lyx/2.2.X/abntex2.layout

The only problem I got with Lyx 2.3 was a bunch of error messages for
reloading package 'hyperref' with different options. It seems 'abntex2'
loads hyperref with no options, which conflicts with Lyx code generation.
Besides, Lyx configuration does not work, (PDF file properties are not
correctly set). Disabling the option "Use hyperref" in Lyx suppresses the
error messages and PDF bookmarks and links are correctly set.

However, I tried to port it to Lyx 2.4 (Beta 5) and came across several
errors which I believe to be Lyx's bugs. Besides the above problem, I've
also got the following ones:

   1. Undefined "\textgreek" error message. I've inserted some section
titles with literal unicode greek character using code like the following:
 "\texorpdfstring{$\varepsilon$}{ε}"
Lyx 2.4 replaces "ε" with "\textgreek{ε}". The problem is not resolved
with "usepackage{textgreek}". Adding "greek" as a secondary language
within 'documentclass' seems to suppress this problem but creates a bunch
   of other issues.

   2. Nomenclature is not printed. Note that I've put a literal LaTeX code
"\printnomenclature[3.3cm]{}", but commenting it and inserting the
nomenclature from the menu "Insert >> List >> Nomenclature" makes no
   difference.

   3. After inserting nomenclature using the menu option, LaTeX code
   preview reveals the following:

"\settowidth{\nomlabelwidth}{$\underset{\mathcal{P}}{\linear}\left(\mathcal{X}\right)$}"
Just to note, that is not the largest nomenclature at all, by far. (That
problem occurs in Lyx 2.3 as well)

   4. I've also got a bunch of undefined "! Use of \bookmark doesn't match
its definition" error messages. The attached sample file does not
reproduce that error, I'll see if I can make another test file later.

I think I'll have to file many bug tracker tickets for each error. I'll do
that later when I get to recover my login info.

I'm using Lyx with latest Texlive (full installation) within Windows 11.

Translations for LyX 2.4

2023-11-07 Thread Richard Kimberly Heck

Hi, all,

We are moving (finally) towards the release of LyX 2.4. Strings have
been frozen and prepared for translation. The most recent versions of
the po files (for UI translations) can be found here:

    https://www.lyx.org/I18n-trunk

Just click on the link for your language.

Changes to the manuals have been marked using change tracking. If you
wish to update those, they can be found here:

    https://git.lyx.org/?p=lyx.git;hb=master;a=tree;f=lib/doc

We'd like to release the first release candidate within about 6 weeks,
so it'd be good to have translations of the UI by then. If that's not
possible, please let me know. We can certainly add additional
translations before the final release (maybe mid- to late-January?).

Please note that the file format for this release is different from

there is no menu-driven way to export to, say, the Beta 4 format. Caveat

The beta3 file format is different from the beta2 format. So you'd have
to use lyx2lyx to convert any file you saved with beta3. This is less
complicated than it sounds. Save the lyx2lyx directory from the beta3
version before you uninstall it. Then after you reinstall beta2, copy
that directory into place. It's just python so text files, so this will
work. I think. Worst case, you can run lyx2lyx from the command line to
do the conversion.

Re: Lyx 2.4 B2

2023-02-06 Thread Murat Yildizoglu
Hi Joel,
Here it is a minimalistic example :
https://www.dropbox.com/s/djr5h2vuey2158n/test-export-epub-2-4.zip?dl=0

The zip file contains the lyx file, a bib file with one reference and the
exported epub file.

The citation in the text appears as ??? and, even if I use the author-date3
format, the epub contains the cryptic label.

I am probably doing something stupid because I am completely ignorant in
docbook and epub areas. I have looked at the DocBook part of the manual, but it
seemed quite cryptic at this stage. I probably need to read more about these
formats first to use them in a productive way.

Lyx 2.4 B2

2023-02-06 Thread Murat Yildizoglu
Hello,

I have at last installed the beta2 on my Macbook Air M1. It seems to start and
behave normally for now. It seems pretty stable and reliable for now.

Thank you very much for your good work!

The graphic inclusion subwindow hides behind the LyX window in this version too.

I was of course excited by the Docbook and epub exports, and I have tried with
a small document.

The output looks quite good but the document has some references (bibtex,
Natebib, authordate3) and they are not included in the body of the exported
text (I see ??? in their place), but the cited documents are included in the
bibliography at the end of the document.

I am doing something stupid?

Best regards,

Murat

You need to use a "dark" Qt style. I do not use Windows myself, but
according to the web, it seems not as straightforward than on Linux and
Mac:
https://forum.qt.io/topic/101391/windows-10-dark-theme

Maybe a Windows user around here has a good solution.

As far as I know:

1) There is no native Qt dark-theme on Windows
2) There is no Qt theme switcher on Windows
3) LyX does not support custom themes

So, I think Windows users are out of luck, dark-theme wise.

I have not understood what about the custom colors did not work with 2.4
that used to work with 2.3.

That's correct, but we also managed to come somewhat back into swing
after many of us have been busy with other issues. There are still some
grave bugs to tackle, but as of (end) January next year, we hope to
come up with something (non final). Having said that, LyX is developed
by a handful of volunteers, so shifts and delays are always to be
expected.

Re: Book about LyX 2.4

2022-10-18 Thread Dr Eberhard Lisse
Ricardo,

I have an (almost) 1000 page ops handbook of 25 chapters (child
documents) and a common include.tex with 330 includes (listings and
images) and a 550 line Makefile.

It displays in 12 point font in landscape when I need to work something
(like recently reinstalling Perl from Homebrew) and I am DYING to lay my
hands on production LyX 2.4 so I can refine this to export cleanly to
DocBook and thus to Kindle so I can easily carry this around on iPad
:-)-O

Can't use dev in production (medical practice) and don't think 2.3.6.2
can read the new format yet.

I will share my experiences here :-)-O

I don't think anyone knows. All of our schedules have been disrupted by
the craziness of the last few years. We are in a weird state where
development is happening, but we are not necessarily getting closer to
2.4.0.

Thanks! I think that's how we handle the translations of our manuals as
well. It would be nice if there were an easier workflow so that
everything could be in one .lyx file, but perhaps no such workflow
exists.

Don't worry about it! I'll ask you again whenever we are close to
releasing 2.4.0 if we really want lyx2lyx to get some extra testing with
complex documents.

Note that there are improvements to the dark theme in 2.4.0dev, so they
might not work as smoothly on 2.3.x.

Then I "save as" to create the other files, change their languages and do a

Thank you Ricardo,

I have printed it out for use by myself and staff. If we find it useful, as I
suspect we will,
let us know of a way we can contribute to your work.

This is great! Congratulations, and thank you. I have questions :)

What is your workflow for writing a book in multiple languages? Are they
completely separate .lyx files, or do you produce them from the same
.lyx file?

Only if you have time (no worries if not!):
Since you have 2.4.0dev set up: can you export your .lyx file to 2.3.x,
and open the exported file in master? Does compilation succeed? Are
there any differences in the PDF? (a great tool for checking is
diffpdf). Doing this "roundtrip" conversion is a helpful test of
lyx2lyx. If you also have 2.3.x installed, in addition to the above, can
you check that 2.3.x can compile the file that you exported from
2.4.0dev?

Thanks,
Scott

I would love to know too, 2.4 introduces many critical features for me.

If you don't want to wait and don't mind compiling, the master branch is
very stable, especially at this stage.

Hello,

I think we all agree that 2.4 is long overdue. However, sometimes real
life interferes. Our release manager has difficulties to find free time,
and in general the team is a bit thin these days.

The latest plan was to have a quick beta1, but even that did not happen yet.

Not sure, but it's not intended to work for Debian. You can always
experiment with this, but run-time dependencies may be different, etc.

The installation of the 'lyx2.4pre' pre-release packages is
independent of the stable 'lyx' installation, so you can have the
pre-release and stable packages installed side-by-side. They shouldn't
interfere with each other.

Please report if you have any issues with the packages.

For some information about the new features, see:

Please note that, as alpha software, there may be some nasty bugs
lurking. LyX 2.4 alpha 2 is released for testing only. That said, we
really would appreciate testing, especially on Windows, where we have
few active developers.
