Hi John, The glass on the screen was not stuck on evenly, so it was raised in one corner. There were big gaps around the keyboard and the screen randomly turned off. Apart from that, it was really good! Alastair -- Forwarded message -- > From: "John R. Pi's are expensive because of fab space allocation going to other things and then industrial customers getting priority on built Pi's Should clear up eventually! Pi 400s are actually cheaper than pi 4's I think, since industrial customers tend not to be able to use them. -- John.
Re: [M100] Another slabtop? Or pc screen extension?
I have a Raspberry Pi 400 and like it quite a lot. I have a 128Gb microSD card in it and am syncing it with my Dropbox account (using rclone). ...and I've had no problems with the keyboard. It certainly isn't a solid, clicky mechanical :) but for a downsized, low-travel keyboard it isn't bad. I find it usable and can touch type without more errors than usual. george g. The ficihip with the mechanical keyboard is nice if you want an extra screen on a desktop and is solid quality on the keyboard. it comes with standard hdmi and usb c cables, as well as a proprietary cable that is usbc on the kb side and breaks out to usbc for power, usbc for hid, and hdmi on the pc side. Mine is flakey and they haven't responded for a replacement. It'd take some work to be a standalone computer. it;d need a battery, a Computer, and a lot of cable management or fine soldering. At that point you;re looking at ready100 pricing and not as slick. -f i wanted to make it into a computer, On Sat, Aug 20, 2022, 4:07 PM David Szasz wrote: > Regarding the "slabtop" from the orig. post. Re: [M100] Another slabtop? Or pc screen extension?
Regarding the "slabtop" from the orig. post. Looking at it from a price vs. performance standpoint it may be better (& cheaper) to buy a tablet and Bluetooth keyboard. That would give versatility, choice of OS and "more bang for the buck". I could change my mind based on an excellent mechanical keyboard, build quality, etc... Probably not something you'd keep for 40 years and build an online community around. As for any Raspberry PI these days, try to find one w/o paying a premium. The Raspberry Pi 400? I got one of those last summer and poked at it daily for light office stuff. It's a great little computer with a fantastic profile. Aesthetically, it feels like it's begging me to stick it and a display to a board and turn it into a slabtop. Yeah, they seem to be relatively easy to come by these days. Some eccentric person has worked out a project using one in combination with one of the low-profile rPi offerings to build a more proper portable slabtop type affair: https://github.com/drcode/lisperati-1000-diy/blob/main/README.md The case design is hideous, but that's easily corrected. I need to finish putting mine together - I'm routing out and finishing a more M100-inspired case made from a couple birch boards (and putting a less cut-down keyboard in while I'm at it.) Should be just the thing for writing on the go :)
