New Member Welcome; [Please Do Not Reply On List]

2011-12-30 Thread Gordon, Lynne & Tracy
Hello group

Firstly, I'd like to take this opportunity to wish you all a very happy new
year. Here's hoping that your Apple experience gets even better in 2012. I can
tell you that there are certainly some exciting things in the Apple pipeline.

Please do not reply to this message on list. If you wish to comment, please
contact the new member personally. It is traditional when new members join the
Mac Access Dot Net email forum that Gordon, Lynne and I try to welcome the new
member(s) personally. In keeping with that tradition, we are delighted to
welcome:
Thomas McMahan
to our number. We are gratified by the fact that Mac Access is growing
globally. Thomas; we hope that you will find Mac-Access@mac-access.net a
pleasant, friendly and worthwhile place to be.

In here you will find a wealth of knowledge, and people with a variety of skill
levels ranging from the total novice, to the application developers with
advanced skills. Then there are those who don't yet own a Mac, but have a keen
interest; and those who use iOS devices without a Mac; but who are,
nevertheless, keen enthusiasts. We hope you will feel free to post your
questions and constructive comment, whatever your skill levels may be. Be
assured, there will be none of the ridiculing and flaming which we know takes
place in other groups. That kind of behaviour is not tolerated in Mac-Access.

Anything Mac OS and iOS is on topic for this group. In the case of
virtualisation applications such as Fusion and Parallels Desktop, the
configuration of the applications themselves, plus the configuration of the
virtual machines is on topic. However, the configuration of Windows or any
other operating systems within that virtual machine is off topic. The exception
to that is if you're using another instance of OSX within the virtual machine.
This has always been a bit of a grey area; but we hope this clarifies the
position. We should also make clear the fact that Apple's Windows applications
are off topic for this group. This is strictly an iOS and Mac OS discussion
forum.

If you have any list-related queries, please do not hesitate to contact Gordon,
Lynne and myself, (the list owners), at , and we will
be happy to help you.

Finally, I thought you might like to know that currently we are offering all
Mac-Access. members the opportunity to purchase the Take Control Of Your Mac
publications, published by Tidbits.com, at an 80% discount. If you want to know
more, please contact the above support address. For a listing of the books
available please visit:
http://www.takecontrolbooks.com/catalog

Don't buy from there, get back to us with a list of books or the name of the
book that interests you and we'll tell you how to proceed.

Once again, a very warm welcome to the group. We hope you find your membership
an enjoyable, instructive and stimulating experience.

Tracy

List Policy Change; Please read!

2011-12-30 Thread Gordon, Lynne & Tracy
Hello everybody

Over the last few days we have been doing some re-evaluation of list policy. We
have now come to the decision that there is no longer any requirement for us to
use assistant list controllers to maintain the group. We would like to publicly
express our thanks and gratitude to all of those who participated as an
assistant list controller; [Anne Robertson, James Austin and Donal Fitzpatrick].

We have now updated the list policy document and removed the list controllers
from the moderation group. As of now, the support address is exclusively the
place where members should come if they have any list-related queries or issues.

It's also worth noting that in recent times, members have been very well
behaved in terms of adhering to list policy. And we'd like to thank you all for
that diligence. There have been a couple of issues recently which list members
have raised with us; and we would like to thank those concerned for their
vigilance.

Anyway, in summary; with immediate effect, the assistant list controllers are
no longer functional as backup personnel. We have already done the courteous
thing and informed those concerned privately of the change.

Lyne

Yes the iPod has the same reset capabilities than the iPhone.

Yes, it is the Imac! But pretty soon I understand the only desktop that will
be able to buy from Apple is the Mac Mini or Imac as they are no longer
going to make the Mac Pro desktop.

Well, if wanting a powerful portable laptop I would get the MacBook
Pro 13 inch. If looking for a portable but desktop replacement then
look at the MacBook Pro 15 or 17 inch . If wanting something very
light and portable but not as powerful look at the Mac book air 13
 inch model. JMT

I currently have a 2009 MacBook here and have been considering
updating it with a trade in to apple to newer macBook model. I want
faster speeds for the machine but not completely sure on what route I

RE: Look tell Money Reader and Papasangre first impressions

2011-12-30 Thread Bubba
Gave you some suggestions but here they are again. First take all apps out
of the app switcher and reboot the device and see what happens! If this
don't fix it then try uninstalling the app and reinstalling the app and make
sure you reboot the device after the uninstall and after the install. If
that don't fix it try a restore of the device from a backup and if that
don't work then try a restore of the device and put it back as a new device.
Make sure you have all your stuff backed up and copies of it if doing the
last one just in case! If none of this works then contact the app maker and
see if they have had other complaints if not then it sounds like Apple time!

If you need a new desktop model, or have access to power, I would
suggest the Mac Mini, especially if you either don't need a screen, or

I went the I Mac route but I understand that as long as there is a monitor
plug plugged into the Mac mini it will work without a monitor. I have seen
elsewhere that the neatest solution is to just plug in and unused adaptor
plug and that will keep the Mac mini happy. No first hand experience of this
though so I cannot swear to it.

Hello everyone:
Any recommendations for a tutorial or a resource for a new Mac/Voiceover
user? I went through the VoiceOver tutorial at start up and that was
helpful to get me started. I am able to get around the system and
browsing but I am sure I am not using VoiceOver efficiently.

Holiday cheers,

Itunes question

2011-12-30 Thread 1smart...@cox.net
Recently, while using Itunes on my Macbook Pro, I got an "Itunes busy" message.
After several minutes and with no luck determining the problem, I had sighted
assistance look at my screen. Apparently, there was a pop up message about an
update on the screen to which I seemed to have no access. Can anyone tell me
how to access these sort of pop up problems?

Also, I've checked settings and Itunes is set to open when my Ipad is plugged
in but it doesn't. It seems as if the Ipad is being identified but I have to
open Itunes manually. Have I set something incorrectly?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Karen

IPhone 3gs VO and punctuation

2011-12-30 Thread Robert Wright
How do I turn punctuation on. I'm using a checkbook app and VO is not
announcing the punctuation marks. this comes in handy in those cases when
the balance goes negative and the app places parenthesis around the number.

I went the I Mac route but I understand that as long as there is a

monitor

plug plugged into the Mac mini it will work without a monitor. I have

seen
elsewhere that the neatest solution is to just plug in and unused
adaptor

plug and that will keep the Mac mini happy. No first hand experience of

this

though so I cannot swear to it.

Well, if wanting a powerful portable laptop I would get the MacBook
Pro 13 inch. If looking for a portable but desktop replacement then
look at the MacBook Pro 15 or 17 inch . If wanting something very
light and portable but not as powerful look at the Mac book air 13
inch model. JMT

hey all,
I currently have a 2009 MacBook here and have been considering
updating it with a trade in to apple to newer macBook model. I want
faster speeds for the machine but not completely sure on what route I
should go. Any suggestions as to what MacBook model you'd suggest,
and the reasons for the suggestion, would be great.

RE: IPhone 3gs VO and punctuation

2011-12-30 Thread David Griffith
My Mac is in for repair but from memory it is VO V to turn verbosity on and
use the left or right arrow until you get to punctuation and then use up and
down arrow to cycle through some most all or none .

If you wanted immediate access I guess you could use keyboard commander.

RE: Keyboard help

2011-12-30 Thread David Griffith
I hope that you get this sorted out but I completely failed to get a windows
ergonomic keyboard to work with my Mac and instead had to buy a Mac
ergonomic keyboard. This was very expensive.
If you do succeed pleas please post again saying how you succeeded as,
although the Mac ergonomic keyboard I got is a vast improvement on the
standard Mac keyboards, it is still nowhere near as good as the Windows
versions I have. It has for example no inbuilt num pad nor an inbuilt
wrist support.

I suggest you need to go back to the manufacturers of the keyboard which
provided the driver for advice as I posted questions about ergonomic
keyboards on several Mac lists and there does not seem to be that much
knowledge or expertise out there in Voiceover or Mac land about these
devices. As I say best of luck and I am glad that you posted. Once you are
used to ergonomic it is very very hard to go back to arm, shoulder and wrist
mangling keyboards. This is an area that badly needs developing for the
Mac. I guess it is a function of the more limited numbers of Mac users and
the fact that ergonomic keyboards are a relatively small section of the
market anyway.

Hi list:

I just bought myself a microsoft natural ergonomic keyboard. I installed the
software but now confused on how to set it up to work fully with a mac
computer. It said and the software for it was a mac software set up.

Can someone tell me where to go to set this up or how to get it set up?

Any help would be appreciated.

RE: suggestions for a new Mac Book

2011-12-30 Thread Bubba
HI, they got rid of the old Mac book and will be getting rid of the Mac Pro
I hear ! What is left as computers or will be left is the desktop is IMac
and Mac mini, As laptops or note books is the Mac Book Pro in 13, 15 and 17
inch models, then there is their line of netbooks which is the Mac Book Air
which comes in 11 and 13 inch model. Now as of now they still have the Mac
Pro desktop listed on their site! Also check out there refurbish models on
their site which you might find the Mac Book as well! HTH
