I need someone to tell me how to add calandar events on different days and how to move to an event? Also anything else that I need to know about ical. I'm using a Mac book pro. Re: Usable mainstream GPS on the iPhone?
To expand on Esther's comments a bit, I intended to mention that beginning with Navigon NorthAmerica version 2.0 (and presumably also the European version) released last November, it is now possible to selectively install maps by jurisdiction. Bare in mind that the mapping data for main stream products is compressed much more (not to mention more current and less expensive to maintain) than their humanware/SenderoGroup counterparts. To give you an idea of the storage requirements, Navigon NorthAmerica's largest map is California taking up 100.1 MB. Texas comes in second at 96.0 MB. As for Canadian provinces, Ontario at 40.7 MB beats out Quebec by nearly 7MB. Most of the States and provinces are smaller. I'll list a few so as to give you an idea: DistrictOfColumbia=1.1MB Maryland=15.7MB Illinois=38.5MB NewYork=43.8MB NorthCarolina=45.3MB Virginia=34.0MB So, you don't need the 64 GB model just to run GPS apps, though the larger storage capacity is fun, and I'd rather have the problem of having to much space smile. Best regards. Geoff - Original Message - From: Esther To: Mac OSX iOS Accessibility Sent: Monday, January 30, 2012 1:03 PM Subject: Re: Usable mainstream GPS on the iPhone? Hi Mike, I agree with Geoff's comments and recommendations but there is one importatn correction: MotionX GPS Drive is only available in the US There is another app that they make, called MotionX GPS, that is available internationally and that is often confused with the first product, but that does not have the features that give turn-by-turn directions that Geoff is speaking of. So if you want a GPS app that can be used in both the US and in Europe, you'll have to choose Navigon. Also, you have to purchase separate apps for Navigon US (or North America, or a region of the US) and for Navigon Europe (or a specific country). The usage format is similar, but the map data is different. The Navigon apps typically take about 1.5 GB each to download. You need twice the space to unpack and update the app. I also agree that you'll want to get the free AroundMe app and/or Where To? -- Discover your next destination ($2.99 from FutureTap). These have a much better interface for searching for points of interest, which can then be sent to the default Maps app, or Navigon, MotionX GPS Drive, TomTom, etc. They'll list matches to your search terms in order of distance from your current location or, you can set this to be a location from your contacts or that you type in, if you're planning travel. These are great apps to have, even if you don't have an iPhone or use GPS apps, and I used both on the iPod Touch before I ever got an iPhone. The really useful function that was added to the Where To app last July is the ability to use the built-in compass on an iPhone or iPad with 3G, and update information on direction and distance as you travel. So, for example, if you search for a restaurant, and then check the detailed screen for your POI, near the top right corner of the screen, you 'll hear something like, Direction and distance, right, 240 yards, and this will update as you travel in both terms -- so you could hear slight right or straight ahead, and the distance decrease as you approach your POI. This can be set to use metric distances in the settings. I should probably mention that I've heard that some iPhone users in Scandinavian countries find the POI database in AroundMe out of date, compared to the one in Navigon. That's the only set of locations I know of where users don't really like these POI helper apps. Both AroundMe and Where To work internationally, and also support other language localizations. HTH. IMHO, from a VoiceOver perspective MotionX is a bit quirkier than Navigon initially, in that many items are not labeled. For that reason you probably would not use Motionx to search for businesses, but other apps such as WhereTo and AroundMe accomplish this and integrate with Navigon and Motionx, which, considering the price difference renders the Motionx POI search inaccessibility a non factor. I have Navigon and am very satisfied, but if I was making the choice today would go with Motionx. --- Mac Access At Mac Access Dot Net --- To reply to this post, please address your message to mac-access@mac-access.net

Hello Geoff, Esther and others, I'd like to thank all of you for your helpful information. Since I frequently travel to certain countries outside Austria (Germany, UK, France, etc) and only to three or four different states in the US, I think I will go the selective download route. Re: Help with Ical
Hello Margaret, I am running the latest version of Mac OS 10.7 (Lion). I have set iCal up to only have a single calendar and have checked the box saying show event times in calendar preferences. I use the view by month. I can use the Tab key to move forwards through calendar entries in chronological order and Shift+Tab to move backwards in chronological order (that only works correctly if you only have a single calendar). I avoid all day events as these are shown out of sequence using the tab key. Instead I show the all day event as starting at 07:00 and ending at 23:00. I also avoid having a separate birthdays calendar for the same reason. At the end of the month I press command+right_arrow to got to the next month. The easiest way to add an iCal event is to press command+n to create a new event and then type something like Dinner with Ken 23 February 19:30 to 23:30 and then press Enter. This will bring up a short dialogue with one line titled event details and a line delete and a line done. If its just a simple one off event just move the Vo cursor to the done button and press that button. If its complicated like a repeating event interact with event details and enter the repeat pattern. then stop interacting with event details and press the done button as above. iCal works very nicely for me this way and is very easy to use. I have several complicated repeating events like one which alternates between the second tuesday of one month and the second Wednesday of the next month. I can tell you how to do this if it is not obvious. I use iCloud to replicate with the calendar on my iPhone. On my iPhone I use the list view which then shows the events in chronological order. Hope this helps. Please get back to me if you need more. Re: Help with ical on my mac
To be honest, iCal is one of those applications that some folks find difficult on the surface, but it really is not once you use it. Command-n will create a new event. You give the event a title and hit enter. Then, next to the title, there is an event scroll area you need to interact with. This is where you will setup specifics about the event, such as the date, time, alarms, invitees, etc. You just use the VO keys and right or left arrows to navigate the options and you, in the cases of setting the date and times, interact with the slider to move them. To search for an event by date, shift-command-t will enable you to do this. List Recorder suggestions welcome
Hello listers, I am a enthusiastic List Recorder user. I've been gathering personal recommendations for the developer concerning improvements, fixes, and desired new features. I'm wondering if other List Recorder users would be willing to share such thoughts with me. How would you like to see this app improved? Here are some of my current favorite desired improvements Modest suggestions: I would like the default list sort method to be manual rather then by creation date. I would like moved items to be automatically unchecked once they are moved I would like to be placed on the first item of a list when I move to a list Within in a single list I would like to be able to drag and drop items for quick reorganization I would like a option for a different sound for signaling the start of a recording. A clear click or pop would be just fine. Big suggestions: I would like to take written notes while I'm recording and later be able to review my written notes and if desired have the recording play back where I was when I made the note. I would like the option for a very fast quick record even when List recorder is in the background. For example I could be on a call and shake the phone and make a recording and have it be waiting in list recorder when I go back to the app. I would like the option to use the due date area to have my list recorder item become a calendar event Or, perhaps List Recorder items that come due could show up in notifications. I would like to be able to back up all my items onto the computer easily and also restore them back to the phone. I realize part of this is all ready available, as we can back up to a computer. I would like to be able to import a recording to make part of a list. For that matter it might be good to be able to import text as well. fixes: List recorder should return to the behavior broken in iOS5 where recording continues after the phone locks. Currently it stops recording. Thank you for any suggestions big or small. Currently I use many devices to meet my work needs, Victor Reader, Olympus recorder, Milestone 312, and if I could only have one device I'd pick my iPhone with List Recorder. I have done a few rustic podcasts on using List Recorder version 2.2. I'm no professional. However, I'm told they will be eventually made available at sixth mode.com The developer truly listens to and acts on suggestions. please share yours with me. I'd love to keep this app discussion on list but if people would rather contact me off list that is fine. eric Caron --- Mac Access At Mac Access Dot Net --- To reply to this post, please address your message to mac-access@mac-access.net You can find an archive of all messages postedto the Mac-Access forum at either the list's own dedicated web archive: http://mail.tft-bbs.co.uk/pipermail/mac-access/index.html or at the public Mail Archive: http://www.mail-archive.com/mac-access@mac-access.net/. Re: List Recorder suggestions welcome
Hello Eric, Thanks for taking the time to do this. I was hoping to switch from ClearRecord to List Recorder for recording my class lectures this semester, but the lock screen issue bit me in my first class, causing me to unknowingly not record the entire class, so I haven't touched List Recorder since then. I like the current feature set and the suggestions you mentioned, but for me the app is currently not an option because of the lock screen bug. I'd love to keep this app discussion on list but if people would rather contact me off list that is fine. eric Caron --- Mac Access At Mac Access Dot Net --- To reply to this post, please address your message to mac-access@mac-access.net You can find an archive of all messages postedto the Mac-Access forum at either the list's own dedicated web archive: http://mail.tft-bbs.co.uk/pipermail/mac-access/index.html or at the public Mail Archive: http://www.mail-archive.com/mac-access@mac-access.net/. ftp in mac osx lion, having trouble
Ok. I have a user who is trying to upload to my ftp server I have going on lion. I have the user account created and they can log in. the trouble comes when they want to upload to a sub folder. I have the permission for everyone set to write only which should work. as I don't want them deleting files by accident. they get a permission denied even then so what's up? I'd give you the address but it's for a project. thanks all. --- Mac Access At Mac Access Dot Net --- To reply to this post, please address your message to mac-access@mac-access.net You can find an archive of all messages postedto the Mac-Access forum at either the list's own dedicated web archive: http://mail.tft-bbs.co.uk/pipermail/mac-access/index.html or at the public Mail Archive: http://www.mail-archive.com/mac-access@mac-access.net/. Re: List Recorder suggestions welcome
List recorder is a great App. When we are able to append more to an existing file and the screen lock bug is fixed, I will use it much more! And, by the way, have you thought in translating in to other languages? You could have much more users who speak spanish. If you are interested, just get back to me. Cheers! SALUDOS, DANIELA R.T.
