I'm using tiger, and the develop menu item shows up for me when I have the option selected (which I always do) so the version of os/safari can't be it. (just thought I'd offer you more good news) :) As for Lion's processes being properly protected from one another, it could be that the resources of the system are being severely strained by one or more applications especially if voiceover is running. It really shouldn't just melt down. This is very true, but one I've seen a lot of on the apple disscussion groups, and something I've noticed for myself is that those apps don't always release all their memory when they finish a task. For example, I've discovered that opening and closing multiple windows in safari tends to deplete usable memory fairly quickly, which for me is a real problem, since I do a lot of window opening and closing, since I have safari set to open each document in a new window when it's clicked on from outside safari. This tends to make safari very sluggish after opening a few links from mail when html versions of emails are available (did I mention I use plain text emails too) So, a lot of times, I need to either view the raw source of the message to get the html code, or just click on the stupid link that says click this link to see this message in your browser. sigh Anyway, it helps to quit and relaunch programs once in a while that have been running for several days, especially ones like safari and mail, since they do tend to hog memory the long they run. My experience only of course, I'm not speaking for apple here, only stating my own observations of course. But, I'm fairly convinced, both of these programs have several memory leaks, so it's good to refresh them from time to time. :) Again, I'm not saying relaunch them everytime you have memory problems, but if you've had mail and/or safari running for several days, and your system seems a bit sluggish, relaunching these two biggest offenders usually solves the problem for me. --- Mac Access At Mac Access Dot Net --- To reply to this post, please address your message to mac-access@mac-access.net You can find an archive of all messages postedto the Mac-Access forum at either the list's own dedicated web archive: http://mail.tft-bbs.co.uk/pipermail/mac-access/index.html or at the public Mail Archive: http://www.mail-archive.com/mac-access@mac-access.net/. Re: Using Mac as bluetooth keyboard
Hello Daniela, The Type2Phone app was mainly for pasting in text from app on the Mac. I notice that since I originally tested the app (at the end of December), Type2Phone has updated from version 1.2 to 1.3.1. At the time that I was using Snow Leopard on a MacBook Pro, and could make the app navigate with my keystrokes if I turned VoiceOver off. When I tested it just now (after an upgrade to Lion, and using the latest version, on a MacBook Air) my keyboard controls behaved very differently, and rather oddly. For example, previously I had been able to use VO-Space as well as QuickNav. Well, when I was in the edit field of a document, with VoiceOver turned off on the Mac, I tried to turn QuickNav on from within an editable document text area. Initially the left and right arrow keys didn't turn this on, but Command+Right arrow did, and VoiceOver said QuickNav on. Then, I could navigate with the QuickNav arrow keys, but not with Control-Option-Right or Left arrow (i.e., VO-Left arrow and VO-Right arrow), even with QuickNav turned off. This used to work, along with VO-Space, when I turned VoiceOver off, although it was not as stable as in iKeyboard. However, once I took focus away from the text area (by using gestures on the touch screen), I could navigate back to the home screen and start my music playing, and skip to the next song and control volume with the media access F-keys. I could also launch other apps. This feels as though the keyboard is not being correctly mapped, since the behavior is inconsistent. Another time, trying to press VO-H (Control-Option-H) to return to the home screen from within the text area started deleting characters. Ignoring the Option, key, pressing Control-H was sending the character delete sequence, as in some unix and linux connections. At one point, when I was pressing the Up and Down arrow keys (in QuickNav mode, as I thought), I ended up cycling through my different input language keyboards. I think one of the issues may be that I have a lot of different input language keyboards on my iPhone and on my Mac. The Type2Phone program always works correctly when I am typing straight text, but when I use VoiceOver's keyboard control, I may have started in an input language keyboard other than US English (which is what my Mac uses by default). I tried setting the language in the rotor by gesture, and at one point simultaneously pressing the up and down arrow keys started cycling me through the different input language keyboards on my iPhone. Sorry for the rambling account. The bottom line is that the text input exchange between Mac apps and iOS device works fine with Type2Phone. You do need to disable the Mission Control keyboard shortcuts here, too, if you want to use all the editing navigation shortcuts and media player controls. The VoiceOver navigation control seems quirky, but this may depend on the keyboard identification being used by the app. I don't know whether the current MacBook Air keyboard (which lacks an eject key, for the first time) is not getting its other control keys correctly identified, or whether starting with a different input language keyboard through VoiceOver selection on the iPhone is causing a conflict of definitions. This probably can be made to work with VoiceOver with some feedback to the developer. HTH. At that point, the keystrokes you press on the keyboard act on the iOS device, which in your case would be the iPad. Using QuickNav navigation or VO-Right arrow or Left arrow moves you through your controls, and using VO-Space or simultaneously pressing the Up and Down arrow keys will press buttons and activate links, etc. The one addition I would make to last December's discussion is a recommendation for Lion users that you disable all the shortcuts associated with the Mission Control shortcuts category in

Hi Christine, I think I know where you might be confused. Under OS X Lion, the search functionality has been altered slightly. When using Command+F to execute the Find, command, after typing in your search string you need to then press Escape to exit the search field. You will then find your cursor where you expect, with the word or string highlighted. You should then be able to edit to your heart's content. You can also use VO+F to launch VoiceOver's Find function, but do to several factors including the limited space provided for typing a string, I prefer to use the application's in-built Find command. Hi Christine, Have you tried using the Mailbox Search function in Mail? You can get to it by pressing Command+Option+F or by navigating through the Edit menu. This will place your cursor in the Find window and as you type Mail will search through your mailboxes to find messages containing the terms. The results will appear in your message list. To get more details on this command, try typing the word find in the search box found in the Help menu. HTH, Bryan On Feb 27, 2012, at 6:34 PM, Kristeen Hughes wrote: . This training is important, as it allows MacSpeech to become accustomed to your voice, although it may be possible to bypass this and train as you go. Also, I do not believe the company is willing to provide free trials, although they did offer a money-back guarantee when i last enquired about purchasing.
