RE: captcha program for Mac computers?

2012-07-11 Thread David Griffith
Is Firefox usable with voiceover yet? I heard Mozilla was working on
accessibility but heard that the busy problem with VO and Safari was
magnified exponentially on Firefox at the moment. Still if Firefox could
just be used for capture pages then that would be a real advance.

Actually they broke the last build and I can't get access to the nighties on
the build page. It said the page can't be displayed when I click the download
link lol! here is the link to the nightly builds.

http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/nightly/latest-mozilla-central/

Here's the page to the true nightly builds.

http://nightly.mozilla.org/

That page you will have trouble accession the nightly builds but the page above
you will not. They broke the jul one from last week but good luck.

Re: Naval Combat

2012-07-11 Thread Esther
Hi Krystal,

You wrote:

no way to contact the dev

You should be able to use Naval Combat, like many other apps designed for the
iPhone, on the iPad. When you launch it, try to locate a button in the bottom
right corner of the screen when held in portrait mode that will be announced as
Switch to full screen mode and double tap it. The app will expand to fill
the iPad screen. The button in the bottom right corner will now be announced
as Switch to normal mode if you touch it. Leave this button alone, so you can
continue to easily use the app in full screen mode.

Some apps are designed as universal binaries, and will auto-detect when they
are used on an iPad, and either use the full screen version of the iPhone
screen design, or use a design that is specially tailored for the iPad layout.

According to their support web page, you can write to the developer at:
navalcom...@mindrecursion.com
They also have a twitter account: @mindrecursion

HTH. Cheers,

Esther

Re: How do I do what's listed in the link?

2012-07-11 Thread Jonathan Cohn
Hello,

This is possible, but it depends on how your mouse follows voice over and also
how the exact javascript to expose the hidden links works. In any case, this
process will be easier using the IOS inscructions.

If for some reason this is not possible, and you have mouse follows VO then:

Go to the hover area, and then turn off cursor tracking.

If the javascript was written to conform to Section 508 of the ADA then the
hover link must be accessible with keyboard actions. In any case, once you
turn off tracking, and do a list of links you should find the hide link. I
can't try this week, since I am only around iPhones.

Best wishes,

Jonathan

Re: Sound output option wanted

2012-07-11 Thread Eric Caron
Yes,

That works. I do that for two rooms now. But my computer is also
hooked directly to my main stereo and that has several sets of speakers in
several rooms. I'd love to be able to separate out the iTunes output from
voice over. I may just purchase a third airport express but I'm told too many
of these will start to degrade the network.

Thanks for the suggestion. I was hoping a inexpensive sound card of some type
might work.

Re: audible app problems

2012-07-11 Thread Glenn
Hi Esther,
You are correct, it was on my iPhone 4.
I have a 16GB iPhone, and there is about 10GB available.
I almost never have more than 2 or 3 apps running, as several times a week I
close everything from the app switcher.
I had downloaded it directly to the iPhone, via my home wireless connection.
It is like it froze, it was in 2 parts, and it seemed that both parts read
downloading after the titles.
But for some strange reason, it started working, and now I have finished the
book.
So I cannot explain why it did that.
Thanks All for offering some assistance.

Hi Glenn,

As Sean says, it would help to know whether you tried to download your
Audible book to your computer or to the Audible app on an iPhone, iPod
Touch, or iPad. And if you have downloaded a book to either your computer
or to an iOS device, what system or device you are using. My guess, based
on your earlier posts, is that you are using the Audible app on an iPhone 4.

First, can you check whether your device is close to full? I usually use
apps to report on my system status (there are also several free ones, like
System Status Lite by Techet, but you can find this information on disk
usage in the Settings General About screen.) As with all devices and
computers, downloading uses available cache storage, and you may get better
performance when you're not short on available disk space, or have cleared
off active apps in your AppSwitcher, or have cleared off multiple tabs in
Safari or even gone to Settings Safari and used Clear History. (Most of
this is not necessary, but are steps that you can take to minimize existing
use of resources before you download.)

Occasionally a file just doesn't download correctly. This can be due to
heavy server traffic at the time you tried to download, or the status of the
connection at that time with your ISP, etc. I've rarely had this happen
with Audible downloads now, and it's unlikely unless you try to get a newly
purchased file just after they've run a big sale. However, if this was a
problem download, you can delete the file and try again. (You can start
playing an app even when the download is incomplete, so the fact that you
were able to start listening doesn't indicate that the complete download was
OK.)

To delete an audiobook from the Audible app:
1. Go to the book's playing screen. If you have selected My Library (the
first of 5 buttons at the bottom of the screen), there is probably a Last
Played button at the the top right corner of your screen. Double tap that.
2. On the screen with player controls at the bottom, there is an Info
button at the top right corner. Double tap that Info button.
3. The Info screen for the book has three buttons at the bottom:
Bookmarks, Details, and Chapters. Double tap the middle Details
button that is just above the Home button.
4. Do a three finger scroll up to move to the bottom of the page, and find
the Remove from device button (just above the Details button, which
itself is just above the Home button at the bottom of the screen). Double
tap this to delete the book from your device.
5. You should be taken back to your library screen and the entry for the
downloaded book. Flick right to the Download button and try the download
again.

HTH. I've rarely had problems with my Audible downloads not completing.
This was an issue when they first released the app, and some of the
downloads of even short files would take 50 minutes to complete, but now my
downloads complete within a few minutes. Cheers,

Esther

Thanks. I truly appreciate your explanation of the buttons. I would never
use a vague expression such as poorly labeled, I was very specific about
these buttons not having ANY text label. The help for this app refers to the
big orange button and a black button, I wrote to the dev that those of
us who are totally blind cannot distinguish the color of a button to
determine its function.
I like this app, more than chazm (sp?), because I can read the lyrics,

Hi Diane,

On the results screen, I see three unlabeled buttons. one is directly
below the word results and a second is in that same row on the left hand
side. Lets call them UK1 and UK2 going left to right. Directly below UK2
is a button labeled with the name of the artist.

Just from playing around in order to prepare my post, it would appear that
the button I named UK1 will play a preview, or if the song is already in
your library presents a choice between the standard preview, or your
version. The other two above and below the artist will display a review
of the album including it's contents. There are unlabeled buttons
corresponding to every song title which will play samples. Remember that
you can use the two-finger-double-tap-hold gesture to label elements, or
relabel ones where you don't like the name -- for example, in the
SoundHound search result window, you might want to change control
infopage save to save.

Bare in mind that we are a very small segment of the population, hence we
often have to meet developers half way. Most have never had cause to use
VoiceOver, so won't know what is meant by a badly labeled element, unless
you can explain where they are and how they vary from the nicely labeled
ones. Just my two cents.

Best regards.
Geoff

  Greetings Diane,

I too am totally blind, but consider Soundhound to be very voiceover
friendly. There are a few unlabeled buttons, which in my experience
don't

preclude the ability to fully exploit all features of interest to me.

I understand your frustration with the developers response (kind of
analogous to the 1980s vintage office sign reading: the beatings will
continue until employee morale improves), but to be honest, I had the
identical question upon reading your post. Perhaps if I try a
different

  approach?

  1. Can you verify that you're using the current version of SoundHound?

  2. Is it the free or paid version (this probably doesn't affect the
  interface)?

  3. Are you using the current IOS public release (5.1.1)?

  4. What happens when you launch SoundHound -- is all text unreadable,
and

  you see no discernible buttons?

  5. If so, try using the back button in the upper left hand corner
until

you're on the home screen where all buttons are clearly labeled without
any need for the label element ( two finger double tap and hold)
gesture. If you cannot locate a back button, try the scrub gesture
which

One of the available settings is to have SoundHound listen for music on
startup, but for me, this screen is very clearly presented via
VoiceOver.

I can't imagine where you might be landing.

Please let us know how you're getting on, and perhaps the list can be

You should be able to use Naval Combat, like many other apps designed for the
iPhone, on the iPad. When you launch it, try to locate a button in the bottom
right corner of the screen when held in portrait mode that will be announced
as Switch to full screen mode and double tap it. The app will expand to
fill the iPad screen. The button in the bottom right corner will now be
announced as Switch to normal mode if you touch it. Leave this button
alone, so you can continue to easily use the app in full screen mode.

Some apps are designed as universal binaries, and will auto-detect when they
are used on an iPad, and either use the full screen version of the iPhone
