Re: Using finder in date view

2013-05-27 Thread Anne Robertson
Hello David,

On a British keyboard, the vertical line character is shift on the key two to
the right of semicolon. That's the key just to the left of the long bit of the
Return key.

So, to sort the column, press VO-Shift-backslash, then VO-Space, then
VO-Shift-Backslash again.

Cheers,

Anne

Actually that's no longer the case in mountain lion. There are buttons at the
top of the column headers and you can move back and forth between them and hit
the buttons for up and down. it's a toggle. to get out of the sort simply hit
vo shift back slash again and you will be back in list mode with your new sort.

Re: Using finder in date view

2013-05-27 Thread Esther
Hi David,

I use Finder's list view in the same manner that Anne and Sarah described to
sort on individual columns such as "Date Modified". To sort on any particular
column you have to first navigate to that column in the table you've interacted
with. Also, while the sort key shortcut is indeed VO-Shift-backlash for anyone
with an English language input keyboard, this may be another sequence to get
the "vertical line" character (Shift-backslash) in a different input language
keyboard. Remember that applying the sort shortcut each successive time will
reverse the previous sort order of the column.

If you frequently want to visit this folder and always have it sorted in order
of modification, another thing you could do is place it in the dock (select the
folder in Finder and use Command-Shift-T), and have it sorted by date modified.
You can read a detailed description of how to do this in the list archives:
• Re: Accessing Documents From The Dock
http://www.mail-archive.com/mac-access@mac-access.net/msg03806.html

The description was written in reply to someone using Snow Leopard, but it
works the same way in other versions of Mac OS X. It may be overkill, though.

HTH. Cheers,

Esther

Try sorting by none with option cmd 0 on the number row then switching to list
view and then hitting vo shift back slash. That should, key word should, work.
I tend to work on list view as I just like it. lol! I got trained in list view
and what ever cmd 1 on the number row was, I like list mode better personally.

Take care.

Re: Using finder in date view

2013-05-27 Thread David Griffith
Thanks for tips from Ann and Sarah.

Switching to list view I can achieve what I need to do.
I still much prefer column view for ease of use but switching to list view for
the occasions I need to sort by date will not be too onerous.
However using the keystroke Sarah recommended only provoke the message "no
header available" from Voiceover. I obviously have some setting which mens that
this will not work.

You should not need a newmaric keypad. All I do is hit control f8 to get to the
extras menu, then vo left and right to the dropbox icon. then option click on
the menu. Is that not working for you at all? You might have to do it 1 or 2

Re: Using finder in date view

2013-05-27 Thread Sarah k Alawami
Hello. it's a lot easier to sort by none, then interact with the table then hit
vo shift back slash and hit the button for what you want the table to sort by.
You need to be in list view to accomplish all of this. Simply hit cmd 2 on the
number row and you are good to go.

Take care

Re: Using finder in date view

2013-05-27 Thread Anne Robertson
Hello David,

I always use the Finder in List view which allows sorting by date or anything
else. To open a folder in List view, you can either do Cmd-Down Arrow or Cmd-o.
Cmd-Up arrow takes you back to the parent folder.

I'm sorry, I can't relate this to Windows as I've never used Windows.

Cheers,

Anne

Using finder in date view

2013-05-27 Thread David Griffith
I am having a lot of problems using Finder in anything apart from Name
arrangement.
If I go to the view menu and change the view settings to date modified or
date created or any date setting I find it virtually impossible to make
any sense out of finder.

I did this today in my Music folder and I was placed in a view where I had a
"Group" called Today.
However trying to interact with this group got me nowhere. I tried to
navigate to see if there were some sub folders without success. I could not
open the Today group either.

Cursoring down I found some confusing folders which did not relate to my
original folder I was in . I eventually found my Music folder but again
could not do anything useful with this.
I am using column view by default.
I must admit I was hoping to find a simple rearrangement of the sort order
in the same way as you get in Windows but I am totally confused by this way
of doing things.

Rearranging the sort order to name recovered the situation but I would like
to sort files by at least date modified on occasions to help me locate files
.
Is there any tutorial on using finder with Date arrangements which can make
this process useful with Voiceover?

David Griffith.

VLC Stuttering

2013-05-27 Thread Harmony Neil
Hellow,
does anyone else have a problem with the latest version of VLC stuttering?
Iplay even 1 song without it doing that. Yet the weird thing is, it was
working fine last night when I was listening to Harry Potter stuff.
Does anyone have any suggestions how to fix this?
Thanks,
Harmony.

RE: batch converting documents using fine reader on the mac can itbedone?

2013-05-27 Thread David Griffith
Thanks

I think this will be OK then.
What is happening in his case is that his support worker is scanning
chapters of books which are then conveyed to him as multiple jpg files
representing each page.
He does not want a separate document for each image but a single rtf file so
it sounds like this will be fine>

Hello David,

FineReader for Mac can convert multiple pages in one batch, but it can't put
them into separate files. So, if all the JPG images are in one file, it can
be opened with FineReader and all the images will be converted. I regularly
give FineReader files of TIFF images from VueScan and it works fine.

Cheers,

Anne

2013-05-27 Thread Michael Marshall

express version hence no batch converter it's enough to drive you to drink.
