playing songs on ITunes

2013-12-02 Thread Henry Miller
Hi
I am using mountain lion and trying to familiarise myself with I_tunes and
have the following questions:
1. when I play a song, and press space bar to pause, then arrow down the
list and highlight another song, How can I play this song without using the
command plus right arrow keys?
2. How do mac users carry out the function drag and drop quickly when
moving songs and albums around playlists?

Best wishes

Henry

Simply hit enter on the new song. This is like the double click or what ever
the sighted people use to play something or take an action in osx.

I use cut and or copy and paste, mainly copy so I don’t brake anything, or I
copy and paste from a finder window and elect not to have iTunes copy my stuff
to the library.

Hope that helps.

There's also a checkbox in the preferences to tell Itunes to leave
your songs alone, in which case, it will just add them to the library,
without copying them into the structure it prefers, which sometimes
really screws up your collection if you have a large collection before
Itunes enters the picture.
It's the checkbox that says keep my library organized. If you uncheck
this, then Itunes will just add the music without moving things around
on you.

Using The Apple Store App To Place Orders

2013-12-02 Thread Dane Trethowan
Hi!

I've been using this App for over a year now to order items from the Apple
Store.

Every time I use this App I notice heaps of improvements which have been
implemented to make the shopping and ordering experience more satisfying for
the customer.

I ordered some goods from the Store a fortnight ago and was surprised to
receive status notifications from the App on my iPhone informing me of the
delivery time and the notifications were very accurate, as it happens my
delivery came 2 days earlier than I'd expected - Australia Post is delivering
parcels each and every Sunday from now up till Christmas.

I had long been asking Apple in the Feedback forms for some sort of
notification or SMS system to be put in place so that the person receiving the
delivery could have a better idea of when the order would be delivered, just
how many of us have a whole day to waste waiting for the delivery person to
show up.

Because of the excellent service from the Apple Store I will have no hesitation
in purchasing Apple Accessaries as well as Apple products even though those
accessaries could possibly be available at other places for a slightly cheaper
price.

Cyber Monday sales on O'Reilly books and iOS apps

2013-12-02 Thread Esther
Hi All,

I posted a few more iOS app deals over at AppleVis, and thought I would mention
them here.
• bossjock studio ($4.99, reduced from $9.99) by the bossjocks
Podcasters, Voiceover Artists, DJs, this is your app. Life without fan noise is
good! bossjock studio makes it easy to create and publish rich audio
productions on your iPhone and iPad. bossjock is not an audio editor or
multitrack recorder. Visit our homepage at bossjockstudio.com to see the app in
action. bossjock studio production happens in real time. Grab some good
headphones. Load up your soundboard. Fine tune your show notes. Hit record,
trigger the mic and go. Recordings are podcast ready, no need for post
production. There's also an AppleVis podcast at:
http://www.applevis.com/podcast/episodes/bossjock-studio-mix-monitor-record-and-master-audio-fly
The App Store URL is:
https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/bossjock-studio/id531205021?mt=8

• The Ultralingua dictionaries for iOS are on sale for 25% off (generally
$14.99 reduced from $19.99). Here's a link to the AppleVis entry for one of
these (Spanish-English Translation Dictionary and Verbs)
http://www.applevis.com/apps/ios/reference/spanish-english-dictionary-and-verbs
The corresponding App Store URL is:
https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/spanish-english-translation/id284797552?mt=8
You'll have to search for the language dictionaries you want. There's a free
Ultralingua Dictionary Bookshelf app you can use to check sample entries in
different languages:
https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/ultralingua-dictionary-bookshelf/id512347062?mt=8

There's no corresponding sale of the Ultralingua dictionaries n the Mac. I'll
also mention, from a previous list discussion on accessible Russian-English
dictionaries for the Mac, that the Word Reference web site provides very good
and accessible dictionary support for many languages, if you use an Internet
connection:
http://www.wordreference.com

O'Reilly Books have placed all their eBook titles on 50% sale today for Cyber
Monday. They sell DRM-free versions of eBooks in multiple formats - mostly
computer books. While many of these are supplied to BookShare, there are
advantages in buying from O'Reilly. First, international users might not have
Bookshare subscriptions. Secondly, they offer multiple DRM-free versions of the
eBooks that can be downloaded at any time through the account you create. This
generally includes PDF, ePub, Mobi (for Kindle), and they've been adding DAISY
format, but generally a little after books are first released. You also
receive any updated corrections to each book. I note, with interest, that
they've been adding DAISY formats for the TaKe Control eBooks, although that
doesn't seem an available format from the Take Control site.

Here's the sale link, in shortened format:
http://oreil.ly/1jaZRDs

You should use the discount code CYBER3 (without quotations) at checkout.
Titles of interest might be the two upcoming David Pogue books, OS X
Mavericks: The Missing Manual, which is scheduled for mid-December release,
and Switching to the Mac: The Missing Manual, Mavericks Edition, which will
appear in January.

I also like to use the O'Reilly site to browse for information about the Take
Control guides. Here's a shortened link that displays these guides in
publication date order:
http://bit.ly/1isfl88

I set the rotor to form controls, then flick down to the sort by pop up
button. I usually set the rotor to vertical navigation and flick down through
the entries, double tapping on links of interest. Remember that your list
membership lets you purchase Take Control titles at an 80% discount by
contacting Gordon or Lynne (or Travis) directly to purchase Take Control
titles. If you have friends who are not list members, you can point them to
today's O'Reilly sale. I use the O'Reilly site to check on recent releases that
may not be in our local catalog:
http://www.mac-access.net/Take-Control.html

I also use the O'Reilly web sit to read detailed descriptions of the Take
Control book contents, since that site is easier to navigate. You can search
for other topics. For example, people coming to the Mac from Linux or Unix
might be interested in the 2012 volume, Learning Unix for OS X: Going Deep
with the Terminal and Shell. I know that Travis like some of the No Starch
Press titles that O'Reilly sells. This sale is in effect until December 3,
2013' 11:00 a.m. Pacific Time.

HTH. Cheers,

Esther

Mavericks and reinstallation or I guess installation for that matter

2013-12-02 Thread Josh Gregory
Hello, what does the Mavericks installer do after you click agree to agree to
the terms and conditions? All mine seems to do is sit there for ages and then
finally bring up the disc thingy where you want to install it. Really really
annoying and the last time I just tried it to try to reinstall because of
random sleep wake issues, I got no voiceover feedback, I did turn off but when
I tried to turn it back on it wouldn't do anything. Guess it's also worth
noting that in the services submenu it says building.
What in the heck is it doing, and it would really be nice to have more feedback
than that if it's actually downloading it.

2013-12-02 Thread Sarah k Alawami
Hmm. odd. I creed a boot partition for my disk so it doesn’t download but run
it direct from my flash drive. I’m not about to try reinstalling again although
I’m almost tempted as I”m having issues with my schedule, and maybe I should do
a 2 parter for my supplement I want to release soon? lol!

As to what it’s doing the last time I reinstalled it did actually give me feed
back. took over 4 hours to dl mavericks as I was showing a work around on my
supplemental. lol!

Take care and hope someone can answer your question with logs or something.

 Hey guys,
I like the tutorials that Sarah referred me to, their great! I do need help
though. I can't figure out how to add an apple loop to a track. I know the
normal directions say to drag and drop the loop into the track, but I can't
seem to do that. Some of the older garage band tutorials were using the
perevious version of Garage Band, so it's hard for me to follow their
directions because the older version's layout is very different from this
one, and I don't have any experience with the older versions.
Can anybody who has experience with this help me out? Maybe I just don't
know where to drag and drop the tracks, or maybe there's a voiceover trick
I can't figure out? I've also tried just copying and pasting the loop into
the track, but no dice. If somebody has it on their computer but doesn't
have a lot of experience, maybe if they have more vision than I do they
could still look at it and help me out?
 Thoughts?
 Thanks
 Laurel

Well, I don’t put my system to sleep, but leave it on all night while ‘m
asleep as I have a friend who loves my ftp server account I set up for them.
lol! the only time my system really is off is when I’m dragging my laptop to
 school lol!

Are you saying the track pad does not work when your system wakes from
standby? I’m just paraphrasing in case i misread your message..

 Take care.

Okay, does anybody have any ideas for when it goes asleep and it wakes up
but it makes the trackpad off sound and the keyboard won't work but
 everything else does?

Hmm. odd. I creed a boot partition for my disk so it doesn’t download but
run it direct from my flash drive. I’m not about to try reinstalling again
although I’m almost tempted as I”m having issues with my schedule, and
maybe I should do a 2 parter for my supplement I want to release soon?
 lol!

As to what it’s doing the last time I reinstalled it did actually give me
feed back. took over 4 hours to dl mavericks as I was showing a work
 around on my supplemental. lol!

Take care and hope someone can answer your question with logs or
 something.

Hello, what does the Mavericks installer do after you click agree to
agree to the terms and conditions? All mine seems to do is sit there for
ages and then finally bring up the disc thingy where you want to install
it. Really really annoying and the last time I just tried it to try to
reinstall because of random sleep wake issues, I got no voiceover
feedback, I did turn off but when I tried to turn it back on it wouldn't
do anything. Guess it's also worth noting that in the services submenu it
 says building.
What in the heck is it doing, and it would really be nice to have more
feedback than that if it's actually downloading it.
