Zoom iQ5: A tiny professional stereo microphone for Lightning connector devices

2014-01-28 Thread Sarah k Alawami
I've heard this mic and it sounds good, although my otter box case will make
the thing impossible to use unless there's some kind of adapter. It still
sounds quite good though. it is too bad the handy app that zoom has out is not
as accessible as it could be, for example splitting, normalizing and all of
that stuff, but you could always use a different recording app if you want to
such as boss jock which I love.

Enjoy.

That's kind of cool. I didn't realize you could do that.

No, if you press the option key plus the arrow keys, it will show you the
condition of the battery, for example, normal, needs service, replace now,
etc.

Yes, my apologies, now that I think about it, there is a way to do this
as Sarah suggested, I do this to access the condition of the battery if
I need to.

Re: in a few short mounths i wil be geting a mack book air

2014-01-28 Thread Sarah k Alawami
hello, and welcome to the list. It depends on what you will be using it for.

Someone can correct me if I"m wrong as I am a bit behind in the mac world. Once
you choose your ram size in the newer models you will not be able to upgrade.
If you will be using your mac to just surf, do school work, etc 4 should be
fine. If how ever you anticipate in the future running windows either virtually
or via boot camp, editing with garage band, doing a seri project etc, 70grade
it to 8. The same goes with the hard drive. I hope others will give advice and
examples as well.

Good luck and try your best and absorb what you can in terms of learning the
beast. it is very pattern driven. For example, in a few days I myself was
taking notes in class, mainly because I had no choice. My other computer died.
*smiles*

Take care and good luck, and again welcome to the list.

Actually what I do is I just use option up and down arrow to navigate. it works
most of the time. If there is another way though I'd also love to know it
beside the rooting thing

Take care.

Re: question about extra options in menus when pressing the option key

2014-01-28 Thread Christopher gilland
I don't think that's what he meant. Your Voiceover keys are control and
option. So if you're already holding them down to navigate, then how are
you supposed to get to those extra options which would require you to hold
the option key down while hovering your mouse over the key. The only way
that I've found to get this to work is to open up the menu, vo+down arrow to
the option which needs to be changed over, then route your mouse with
vo+command+F5, then hit your option key while clicking your physical mouse
or trackpad. the only issue with this however is beware, there really
isn't, at least that I know of, a reliable way to see what the options turn
to when holding down the option key since you can't navigate effectively
with voiceover while the Option key is held down. Again, I know. You
already are! holding down your option key with your voiceover keys. that's
my whole point. If you're holding down the control and option keys already,
then you don't have a way of specifying to change to the alt option. Ya
know? So, yeah, it's probably not the most effective way to do things,
however, that said, I have found times, very few and far between, but still,
I have seen times where I didn't have a choice, and that's how I got around
it. Again, not probably the answer you wanted, I'm sure, but it's what I

2014-01-28 Thread Sarah k Alawami
No. it's been dead for the last 2 now 3 years. I've been using a program
called entropy to rar and zip and stuff like that. You can set up key board
short cuts that will act as a service. It's $18 at the MAS, and here's the
link.

https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/entropy/id437151949?mt=12

Hope it helps.

Downloadin Infovox Updates

2014-01-28 Thread Dane Trethowan
Hi!

I’m in the middle of downloading updates from Infovox for there voices, got 3
Mac machines to update so this will take a little while .

I like the new way Infovox voice credits are handle and it makes more sense to
have one credit per voice per machine.

Enjoying some of the newer voices available, like the new Lisa Australian
voices, reminds me of someone but can’t quite think of who . and I like
the American Karen voice thug initially I thought that may have been an
Australia voice given that Karen on an IOS device and using Voiceover on the

The only male voice i knowis in Siri. There is a gender selection in Siri's
settings. But as for VoiceOver, itself, I never saw one either.

Take care,

Hi,
I just upgraded my iPhone 5 to IOS7X, and I was hoping to find a better
voice.
I heard on someone's phone that they had a really clear male voice, and I
figured that it was from IOS7.
I looked in the voice settings, and the only option for the dialect was the
higher quality, it read nothing about different from the original female
voice.
Has anyone found the male voice in VO?
Thanks.

Time Machine backs up in the background and doesn't interrupt your work.

I know that it might be a lot to ask, but I don't want to mes up my mac,

So, if there is a written resource, or somebody could give advice, I

It might have been a jail broken voice. You can replace the vocalizer voices
with hq ones by jail braking your phone and all of that stuff hence why he
could not tall you how to do it. it is sort of eagle according to newoance's
TOS. Even apple vis took the thread down as nuance said absolutely not to doing
this.

Take care.

Hi Glenn,

Are you sure you weren't hearing one of the paid Voice Dream Reader voices
like NeoSpeech James? I can't imagine that you were thinking about Daniel
(the male British English voice) in iOS 7. He sounds decidedly worse in iOS
7 than in iOS 6, in my opinion.

Cheers,

Esther

I’ve been a user of the Cocktail Maintenance utility for 6 years or so
though I never used it on a regular basis.

I’ve been using Cocktail every day regularly for the last couple of months
using the “Pilot” and the “Daily Script”, I’ve scheduled a time for
Cocktail to run once every day at 1”00 AM and then Cocktail causes the
computer to shut down after maintenance has been completed.

I can honestly say that this maintenance has done wonders for the
performance of my 2011 iMac machine, the computer runs a lot faster
loading programmes in fractions of a second, the longest App to load is
Skype and that takes around half a second.

Thought Id give this a mention as people may wish to try Cocktail or a
similar maintenance utility and see how they get on.

Note that the “Pilot” of Cocktail is fully customisable but do read the
help file before you start poking around in the options or at the very
least have a backup handy .

Cocktail question

2014-01-28 Thread Paul Hopewell
Hello,
I have used Cocktail for ages but have not yet used the pilot option on a daily
basis via the scheduler as suggested by Dane.

When I run pilot manually the restore disk permissions function seems to take a
long time. Rather than have that happen daily I would like it to only happen
say monthly. Is it possible to configure the Cocktail scheduler so that restore
permissions only happens on the first day of each month, while all the other
pilot actions happen daily or weekly as appropriate.

Many thanks.

Paul Hopewell

male voice in VoiceOver

2014-01-28 Thread Glenn
Hi,
I just upgraded my iPhone 5 to IOS7X, and I was hoping to find a better
voice.
I heard on someone's phone that they had a really clear male voice, and I
figured that it was from IOS7.
I looked in the voice settings, and the only option for the dialect was the
higher quality, it read nothing about different from the original female
voice.
Has anyone found the male voice in VO?
Thanks.

Re: Cocktail Maintenance Utility, Tried And Tru

2014-01-28 Thread Mike Arrigo
Yes, cocktail is a great app, another app that does similar things is
called onyx, they are both good apps to have.

Original message:

Hi!

I’ve been a user of the Cocktail Maintenance utility for 6 years or so
though I never used it on a regular basis.

I’ve been using Cocktail every day regularly for the last couple of
months using the “Pilot” and the “Daily Script”, I’ve scheduled a time
for Cocktail to run once every day at 1”00 AM and then Cocktail causes
the computer to shut down after maintenance has been completed.

I personally use onyx as I love the DYA stuff you can do with it and it is
accessible as well. I also use clean my mac every day to clear stuff. I think
between those 2 apps my mac is doing well for it being 4 years old. it's
running almost as good as the day I bought it in 2010.

Take care and be blessed.

So, if there is a written resource, or somebody could give advice, I will

Hello all!
This was a Cocktail day. Thanks again for reminding me about it. It is great. I
loved it, I purchased a family license, since we have 3 macs at home.
I find it self explaining, and he help file is very good.
I really did not like the maintenance Apps, because I found them strange and
difficult to follow, but this arrangements with buttons on the tool bar and
tabs within each one, makes it really intuitive.
I just have a question for expert users. What is to purge virtual memory? Is it
OK to do it or the pilot will do it for us?
Thanks a lot!

You'll find the help file of Cocktail vern informative so start by looking at
that to find out about the functionality of the App.

When I speak of Backup I'm referring to any Backup system you have whether that
be a Time Machine Backup, Super Duper Backup or whatever, Time Machine backs up
in the background and doesn't interrupt your work.
