RE: ios 8
Hello, I have noticed a few bugs, as well as lots of good things with iOS8. There are a few bugs I've noticed, such as caller ID doesn't always work. However, if you swipe to the left when your phone rings, you can still tell who is calling. The other thing is that Siri likes to cut off a lot. She will just stop speaking. On the other hand, I love the name that tune feature, as well as the health app. So it all really depends on what you want to do. I am glad I upgraded. Re: ios 8
As others have said, it all comes down to what you can cope with. As a 5C, your phone itself will handle the update just fine without any real issues with sluggishness. I have not really seen any issues of note with SMS. Email is a bit buggy. I have had issues where I double tap on the reply button and it actually activates the compose button. There are also lagging issues if you use the minimize draft option to save a draft while you look for something else. VO doesn't necessarily like this feature. Another thing to get used to: if you are using a Gmail account like I am, you now need to swipe down to archive, like in iOs 6. If you swipe up, you get a delete option, which is helpful, but if you archive everything like I do, it just takes some getting used to. As far as the weather app goes, it's really nice in iOs 8. The only problem that I have seen with it is that the widget doesn't always appear in notification center like it should. Other than that, it will just be a personal decision for you. These bugs are a minor annoyance to me and I cope with them fine. VoiceOver likes to restart itself or freeze altogether at points, but it can be easily dealt with. I have seen no real differences in Safari. The most obnoxious bug for me is the sticky phone keypad buttons. I hope this helps. Version 8.1 should be coming soon, so we'll see what that fixes. Amadeus thinks I haven't bought a licence
Hi all - I bought Amadeus lite from the Apple Mac store a couple of months ago. When I tried to save a new recording today, I got a message telling me that I was using a demo of the app, and couldn’t save any further files without buying a licence. I don’t think I’ve ever had a licence for it because I just bought it from the App store and not directly from the manufacturer. I’ve reset parameters and permissions, just to see, but it’s made no difference. Fitness tracking devices
Hi everyone, I signed up for this thing at work where I am pared with a movement coach to implement exercise activity into my daily work. I have a goal to reach 10,000 steps by the end of 10 weeks. To do this, I started by using the Health app built into iOS8, but it was counting car rides as steps. So now I have a Fitbit with a flex tracker wrist band. The first thing I noticed is that just before you get to the screen where you enter in your height and weight, the app crashes. If you turn off VO and then go to that screen, everything is fine; you can fill in your height and weight and go on to the next screen and the app doesn't crash again. The wrist band doesn't talk. It vibrates when it's activated with your phone, and it will apparently do a party dance when you reach your step goal for the day. But otherwise, you just look at the lights. And for some one who has no more light perception, I am sure you can understand how useful that is. So this leads me to ask you all: do any of you use any tracking devices you can accurately sync with your phone to keep track of your exercise? Thanks a lot for any feedback. Re: ios 8
I agree but now I'm coming to terms with the fact some just do not want to update until the bugs are ironed out which is unnecessary but there you go. Each uses our own devices in different ways and think some are scared their habits will be taken away with the update which isn't true at all. As a beta tester I can tell you there were terrible bugs initially with iOS 8, most of which were fixed as the betas progressed to Gold Master and beyond. Re: ios 8
i updated my iPad mini 1st generation the other day. and well. i have came across more glitches and bugs that have actually made the iPad impossible to use. for example, i am trying to type notes in class, and voice over keeps turning on and off on and off on and off. there is no scrolling visually, the screen just sticks in one location, etc. As far as i am concerned, IOS8 is the worst ios implemented… Can i revert to IOS7 now that i have this brutal system in the iPad? Re: ios 8
Hi Doug, perhaps this will help, I saved it from another list. Glenn The following, from another list, may be of interest to some who are having problems with the new firmware: Hello Listers, Since a few people asked about downgrading, I thought I test it out since I already had the iOS 7.1.2 file downloaded from when I was Beta testing iOS 8. I wanted to be prepared to downgrade in case it was necessary. Since I was also contemplating doing a new install of iOS 8 (mine has been just updated repeatedly all the way back from Beta 1 in June) I thought why not see if downgrading to iOS 7.1.2 still works before I upgrade to iOS 8. So, I connected my phone, did a sync and an encrypted backup and then went to the Restore button in the device section and pressed Shift+Enter (I am using a Windows 7 laptop). I browsed to where I saved the IPSW file (Apple Software Update File) and selected it. I was told my phone would be restored to version 7.1.2, it then went through the steps and 10 minutes later I was done and iOS 7.1.2 was back on my device. I turned Voiceover with a triple click of the home button, went through the initial setup screens and I am now sitting here with a factory restored iOS 7.1.2 installation on my phone. I thought I mention this for anybody who might be just too unhappy with the bugs in iOS 8 and prefers the familiar. It is now Sunday, September 21 at 1:30 PM Pacific time so about 4 days after the public release of iOS 8 (100 hours to be exact) and it appears that Apple is still allowing downgrading. I can’t say if this will still work tomorrow and, if it does, whether it will still work on Tuessday and so on. I am now going to upgrade back to iOS 8 since while I don’t like some of the bugs I do at the same time like some of the new features and the latter outweighs the prior. I will not try to downgrade again in a few days just to see if it works, it’s up to everybody to decide and do what they feel they must. If you do want to go back to iOS 7.1.2, you can download the software from www.IPSWDownloader.com. There are 3 combo boxes where you select your device, your device model and the firmware. Make sure you know exactly which model of iPhone or iPad or whatever you have since you will need to know. I have a GSM iPhone 5S which is version A1533, but if you are on Sprint or Verizon it might be a different model, I am not exactly sure which carrier uses which model in the States as I am in Canada. I am pretty sure that an ATT iPhone 5S is also model A1533. You can find out either by getting somebody to look at the baclk of yourt device, the model number is engraved there. If you want to find out by yourself go to Settings, General and About. Note down the last 3 or 4 digits/characters of your phone’s serial number. Now go to http://www.everymac.com/ultimate-mac-lookup and type the last 3 characters of the serial number in the edit field, then find the results and the model number will be listed there. If it doesn’t work with 3 characters try it with 4. The model numbers all start with a letter followed by 4 numbers, e.g. A1533. Once you have located the correct IPSW file to download, save it do your Downloads folder or wherever you can find it again. When the download is done (iOS 7.1.2 is almost 1.5 Gb) you have to extract it by right clicking on it and select “Extract All”. In the folder which will show up you will find the actual IPSW file which is called as follows: iPhone6,1_7.1.2_11D257_Restore.IPSW You won’t of course see the extension since most likely you will have “Hide extensions for known file types” set to On. Anyhow, now connect your phone to iTunes, go to Restore and press Shift+Enter on it. In the open dialogue, browse to the IPSW file and open it, from there everything will proceed as normal. If you have done a backup under iOS 8 I can’t guaranty that it will restore perfectly, I would probably recommend to set up as a new phone and start from scratch,. Re: ios 8
No you cannot. Apple quit signing ios7 2 weeks ago. so you are stuck with it. Call apple accessibility and report it. Re: ios 8
Actually the mms bug has not been fixed and i kind of forgot to submit my logs for that. I hear that in some cases turnign air drop works but in most cases it does not. Also some apps I use are very broken with ios8 so I cannot update for that reason. Hang outs is an example.
