Re: [Mac-access]: Compatible Mac Keyboards

2015-04-09 Thread Caitlyn Furness
speaking of this, I am looking for an ergonomic keyboard which is compatible
with the mac.

I’ve tried the microsoft wave one and the intellitype one, which are supposed
to be mac compatible. Both were recognized as a laptop keyboard, even though
they both have the num pad attached. I really want the full set of keys on the
right side of my spacebar so I don’t have to do hand gymnastics for some
commands!!

thanks,
Cait

I'm looking at other keyboards to use with my Mac other than the one shipped
with the Mac or the one you buy from Apple, I've been using a Bluetooth
keyboard and there's nothing wrong with the board per say though I'm very
much impressed with the look and feel of the latest Logitech offering I'm
using on my Windows machine, the MX800.

I did a Google search on compatible Mac keyboards and discovered the
Logitedh diNovo keyboard, its a Bluetooth board and seems to be very highly
regarded so I thought I'd give it a try, I've ordered one and I should have
it after Easter though I do warn anyone considering this keyboard that it
will set you back around $100.

If anyone on the list has tried one of these boards then I'd be most
interested in hearing hwat you think or perhaps you've tried another Mac
 compatible keyboard offering.

presents the results in a nice dialog box with the name of the document so
you know for sure which file is being counted. I'm not sure it's word counts
are all that accurate, as it told me on one of my documents that I had only
605 words, but over 2700 lines, and 94000 characters in the document, so
clearly, the word count was off, but It could have been an issue with the
formatting of the document, since it was a converted html document.
So, there it is. I'd wager it could be used with other editors too, if they
support scripting, but I've not tested any, so can't say for sure.
 hope this helps.
You can find the wordcount script at:

refresh memory about installing lion

2012-04-12 Thread Caitlyn Furness
Hi,

Ok, I think I might need to reinstall lion here, but can't remember exactly the
steps on how to do it.

My keyboard doesn't seem to be sending the correct characters to the mac. For
instance, when I try and rename a file, it says apple, in between each
character I'm typing, but it does type the correct character. It's taking an
extraordinarily long time to boot and sometimes I have to hit the space bar to
get it to finish booting, but not always. I also can't seem to get some videos
to work on the 'net, although others work fine, and these same videos work fine
on Mark's I Mac.

I've spent a couple of hours with apple support today, and the only thing
they've done so far is try and select the correct language for my keyboard
which didn't fix the weird apple problem. The tech guy did a remote session
and he didn't see any menus pop up while voice over was saying apple. Things
didn't seem to be tracking properly, either, British was selected in the
language menu table while Canadaian was highlighted, for example. My cursor
tracking is on right now and I have mouse follows voice over cursor in the vo
utility, fyi.

The tech person said that he had to escalate this to engineering because this
shouldn't be happening and that he'd call me back, but as of yet, nothing has
happened. He was supposed to email me a ticket number, but all he emailed me
was a stupid link for my support stuff with apple. He also said I might have
to reinstall Lion.

Does anybody have any ideas about what might be going on with my system and how
to fix this and how to reinstall lion if I need to do that? How do I do a
clean install, if that's possible? Mark made a disk, if that's helpful, when
we first installed lion. I'm running the latest lion update.

Thanks for any help! Nothing like having a computer start acting up right
before finals!

Caitlyn

problems with videos in safari

2012-04-10 Thread Caitlyn Furness
Hi,

I'm having problems with a particular web site and accessing videos on it with
my i mac. I'm using the latest build of Safari, whatever number we're up to
now, and I've also tried it with Chrome, I think the version I have is 16.

anyway, the videos are supposed to be embedded into the site's pages and play
automatically when you select them, but they don't, at least, not on my mac.

I contacted the guy who runs the site and he said he developed the web site on
a mac and it works fine with his and to try rebooting and also to try chrome.
Well, I did those things and nothing works.

What I have done is to uninstall click to flash from my machine. I've tested
the site on Mark's mac and it works on his, but you have do a mouse click with
vo shift space on the video title to get it to play. I've gone to the site on
our windows machine with the screen reader he uses and it works there no
problems.

I can watch you tube videos fine on here otherwise.

any ideas?

The site is www.livefitrevolution.org and it's free to join.

Thanks,
Caitlyn

question about blue tooth keyboard cases for i pads

2011-11-25 Thread Caitlyn Furness
Hi,

I just got an i pad today and got the targis keyboard/case to go with it. It
didn't come with directions of any type that I can find, so I am wondering
about charging it, if that's necessary or if it possibly charges off of the i
pad itself? I've looked all over the thing and there doesn't seem to be a spot
for batteries or anything, nor a place for a plug of any type…

thanks,
A totally mystified Caitlyn with her new i pad

such things as album covers for the album the song is from and so on.

If you don't need to read the screen then why do you need to look at the art
work smile, I'm yet to find out how this is done but I'm certainly going to
remove all the Album Art Work from my Itunes library in order that I'm able
to put more music onto my iPhone and Ipad, naturally this is something you
don't need to concern yourself with if you're using a player independent of
Itunes on your IOS device such as Oplayer..

Thanks for this explaination. I'm actually going through the list with quick
look first, *before* importing them all into i tunes, just to make my life a
little easier! lol! This doesn't sound too bad, though, even though it's got
a few steps. Can't exactly complain about a bunch of free rintones, can I??

 Hi Caitlyn!
You do have to convert them to AAC in Itunes!
But that's not the end of it!
And you'll have to do them one at a time!
Also if you have Amadayous that can also export as m4r's
 But back to Itunes
After putting them into itunes go to the most recently added playlist and
select the first one to convert!
Open vo+shift+m and go to create AAC version and vo space on it!
[to help if you haven't already got it] with command+j in the songs list,
make sure the kind check box is checked!
And now in the track info you can see which ones are .mid or AAC or others!
Well you should have to versions of that track!
Find the AAC version and use command+shift+r to show in finder!
Press enter on the name which should end .m4a and interact then go to the end
and delete the [a] and replace it with [r] and press enter again!
You'll get a message to ask you about this change select the keep m4r option!
Now before doing anything else go back to Itunes and remove the AAC version
the whole thing so when Itunes asks you if you want to keep the file, remove
 that as well!
Now command tab back to your renamed one!
 And just command+o on it!
[If your default player is Itunes] the track will play and you'll now see it
 in the ringtones playlist!
You have to remove the AAC version before playing the m4r because Itunes
remembers the previous version and will council out your m4r apparently!
Sorry for the long post but when you've done a few, it does not take to long!

partitioning an external drive for a bootable backup

Can somebody refresh my memory on how to create a bootable external disk for

Also, is anyone currently running fusion version 3 with win xp under lion? I

 1. You can search the mail archive for this list by using the link provided
at the bottom of each email.
 2. You can find reviews of apps including navigation apps on www.applevis.com.
 3. You can also listen to some good podcasts by `mike Arrigo comparing

With regard to keeping your old phone number, if I remember correctly Geo and
it's maps are loaded locally on the phone or SD card and thus require no
cellular data connection, just a GPS signal. If that is still the case, then
you should be able to use your old winmob phone as a standalone device
dedicated just to Geo and this would allow you to transfer your existing
phone number to your new phone if so desired.

became available in our area about an hour and a half ago, actually, according
to the sms my carrier sent me on my phone.
Thanks,
Cait

 Hi Caitlyn

It is probably iTunes silliness, it could also be that Apple's servers are
taking a hammering at the moment if I were you, I'd try ti again in a few
hours, or perhaps just before you go to bed. The update will take a long time
approximately an hour. I've not done this myself, yet, but Lyn has started to
do it on hers and VoiceOver said that it would take about an hour.

 Hi,

I just tried to upgrade to ios 5 with my i phone and had a bunch of
 different things happen.

First, it told me my i phone couldn't be restroed. I shrugged this off and
attempted to update again. It then told me I didn't have an internet
connection and that my phone couldn't be updated because my i phone couldn't
 be found.

I updated my i tunes yesterday to the new version.

Oh, and it also said that all my data, etc, on my phone would be lost since
my phone couldn't be restored, would I like to continue anyway(this was the
 first time).

Anybody got any suggestions, or is this just i tunes silliness?

 Hi all

here's a question. As part of the installer of Lion Server objects, I'm
hitting a problem where I have to browse to files and folders but the view is
odd. It's giving me two side-by-side lists of object. That's normal, I can
navigate the first table which is the drives. Then I hit the usual Browser
box, with which I interact. Here's the problem though. When I find the
folder I want to open at the top level to access sub-folders, neither
Command+O nor Command+Down-Arrow work, and I just can't open the folder. Any
suggestions as to how to do this?

 Thanks.

keyboard question

2011-07-21 Thread Caitlyn Furness

Hi,

I was at the apple store yesterday during al the Lion madness and mac book air
goings on for my friend to get a new iphone and I found out there are actually
drivers for my ergonomic keyboard so I canuse it with my i mac. I got the
latest onesand put them on, but now I've got no control and option keys on
theright side of the keyboard. The physical keys are there, but they don't
work now. obviously, this is frustrating, since I can't do vo commands with the
right side, nor can I now use my time apple script with the right option key
and t. anybody got any ideas? This is the microsoft intellitype pro
keyboard(unfortunately, but it's nice for typing if you've got carpal tunnel).
I haven't used it long enough yet to see if other things aren't working as
expected. I looked in system prefs to see if there's a place in the keyboard
section to tell the mac this is the right control key, etc, but didn't see
anything.

Thanks,
Caitlyn
