Please don’t send “I am here’, or “I see you” to the group. We just want life

The Menutab For Facebook client is very nice, the professional version
is even better than the free version but I'd suggest starting with the
free version and see how you like it before even considering the
professional.

This company makes quite a few Apps including Menutab for Google+ and
Disk Doctor which can be used to clean your hard drive of unwanted
files, make sure you have all your data backed up before you start .

I don't know if the Mac has it but, I believe on windows, there is a thing
that is called constant gain which puts the track at a set volume. See if
the Mac version has that option.

Hello to all. I finally after much editing and time released the Yosemite
bundle. In it you will find everything from upgrading, to widgets, to
notifications, to bugs (hopefully not all of them present now) to a clean
install (accompanied by a text file) to resources you can use to further
your knowledge, (again written in a text file).

The audio files are in 160kbps mp3. I feel better about this set rather then
last year's as this one was not rushed.

for more info go to http://tffppodcast.com/premium and have a happy tuesday.

Yeah. so I did this.

1. boot in to recovery
2. reformat your mac's partition. After you do that the top level drive will
have the numbers.
3. Restart in to your flash boot disk and reformat the whole drive.
4. choose install os10 and follow the prompts.

I showed this in my tutorial. I think I will though keep the part where the
bug is so that the user will not be like, Oh crap I broke it like I was
thinking.

Question says it all.

I'm wondering this as I wish to do a reinstall of the OS on my Macbook Pro
but can't bring up the recovery boot process, I shut the computer down and
then restart whilst holding down the option key, I hold this down for 15
seconds or so.

Then I use the left arrow key to hopefully select the recovery utility or
whatever its called and then press enter but unfortunately the Macbook boots
up as it normally should.

Yes, I've tried hitting the right arrow after releasing the option key at
start-up .

I take it the option key is the key next to command?

I'd set aside quite a bit of time to do the installation of Yosemite. It is
a 5GB download and then it takes about half an hour to install.
You get it from the apple beta seed page. Please note: you have to have
signed up for the beta program to be able to download it.

I feel good about this choice. Last time I tried partitioning FileVault
disabled everything and it took the brilliance of two Apple geniuses to undo
the damage.

Make sure that you back up right before you update to Yosemite. That way you

Just an FYI for those of us you receive this list in an single email for
every message, I think it was wrong of you to ask everyone wishing to stay
on the list to email the list with their email as you have flooded my email
with a ton of messages that are of no concern to me. I understand you
wanting to keep people on your list but you have turned me off to the list
and I can care less if this causes you to remove me from the list, but
asking everyone to reply to an open thread with their email that the entire
list is receiving it wrong, and you need to find another way to run your
list.

Hello Debbie,

All the iWork applications for Mac work with VoiceOver. You can manage
tables in Pages but it's complicated and VoiceOver doesn't see them when
they are embedded in the text rather than shown as separate elements on the
page.

Keynote has its problems too, but there are ways round them.

Numbers gives trouble when a table is very big. VoiceOver gets busy, slowing
things down.

However, it really is time we had a new version of iWork since the current
one is four years old.

Cheers,

Anne

ah ok. I was just under that impression. I'm not exactly sure. I guess I'd
heard that you aren't able to get around tables and just thought that the
whole thing wasn't really that good with voiceover. What about the other
iWork applications? Which of them work with Voiceover? Also are you able to
perform a word count?

Hello Debbie,

Where did you get the idea that Pages wasn't very accessible? There are a
few problems with it, but most can be overcome. Lots of us on this list use
Pages regularly.

Cheers,

Anne

You can create Epub books in both Pages and Nisus Writer Pro, but I have not
had need to try this yet. There was a post some time ago on the list about
creating such a book using Pages however.

still like to make an EPub version. I tried IBooks Author from the app
store, and it looks sort of, ish, accessible, but I can't seem to get my
head around where I type my data into the document, as there isn't really a
text entry field from what I can tell. I just wonder, thus, aside from this
app, what else may be out there that could help me with this.

Hello Everyone.
Just an update.
Thanks to your advice, I have signed up to Apple Care for my Mcbook Pro
13 Inch.
I went for the plan that covers Macbook Air and 13 Inch Macbook Pro.
Well that's what the store says anyway.
Cost was £199 including Vat and delivery is free.
I will get in the box some paperwork.
But what surprises me is that in theory, anybody with an Apple Id can
sign up to Apple Care, because Apple does not validate your order by
checking a product's serial number. Nowhere in the order process was I
asked for my Macbook Pro's serial number. I therefore would hate
customers to purchase Apple Care, only to find out it's not valid as
they bought it 1 year from the original purchase date for example.
That's like £200 gone down the drain!
I know mine will be accepted, but thought I would point this out for
potential customers on here.
With kind regards Chris.

Hi!

My iPad 64GB was delivered earlier on today, so what are we up to now iPad
IV or is it iPad V, I've lost track somewhere .

Anyway I cannot say that I'm suitably impressed with this tablet except for
one thing.

Perhaps I'm dreaming here or perhaps I have to get used to it but I don't
think the internal iPad speaker of this generation is quite as good as that
found on the first generation of iPad I just rid myself of and believe me! I
wouldn't have done that had I been able to update to the latest IOS version
but I couldn't which was very unfortunate.

However its just "One Of Those Things" and nothing can be done about it, the
only thing that can be done is to enjoy my new iPad and I'll do that to the
best of my ability .

Hi!

I've seen problems with Mac machines but nothing like this.

I left my Mac Mini machine on overnight to finish some uploading. When I
returned to the machine this morning it was to discover that Voiceover had
stopped working, I tried turning Voiceover on and off using Command-f5 which
usually works but no result this time.

I used f11 and f12 to check the volume and heard the volume click change
every time I pressed 1 of these keys so sound device is obviously okay,
anyone any further suggestions?

This Mac Mini machine is a 2009 model running OSX Mountain Lion just in case
that all makes any difference of some sort.

An issue with Focus 14 Blue Reading status messages really quickly in iOS.

2013-04-17 Thread Debbie April Yuille
Hi All

I've just received my Focus 14 Blue Braille Display today. It works
wonderfully except for a slight issue. Any text that voiceover classes as a
hint or status message, such as "Speech On"; only stays on the display for a
few seconds at most. Not really enough time to read it. Has anyone else
experienced this problem and if so, is there a work around or solutions.

Any help is much appreciated.

Hi Debbie

No problem, don't worry about it. For reference though, if there is more
than one destination address for a message in either the to: or CC field of
a message, it won't make the list. Implicit destinations are one of the
many tools which hashers and spam-writers use to spread their evil doings,
so we don't allow them on list even if a member is registered. By the
sounds of it, you're fine with this now. However, if there is any reason
why you'd like to discuss this with us, and that applies to any of our
policies, our proverbial door is always open. You'll always get a friendly
reception, so just use the support address if we
can help you with anything at all pertinent to your membership of any of our
groups.

Hi all

I'm posting this on behalf of the owner because it looks as though she CC's
this message to another group, which you cannot do when posting to Mac
Access. So, a gentle reminder. Please do not CC other destinations when
sending to this group. It will result in a bounce which will usually just
be deleted by us and which, therefore, means that your message does not make
the group. if we receive excessive messages of this type from the same
originating member, we will place the member into moderation mode which we,
not to mention the member themselves, would rather didn't have to happen.
But now especially, when we are about to start searching for a responsible
person to assist us with list traffic owing to a lack of time on our part,
we simply don't need to have to take this type of action. I know that
Debbie is new to the group so I'm taking a very liberal view at this time.
But I strongly urge that everybody who hasn't done so take a few minutes to
familiarise themselve
s with the list policy document. It will pay dividends. OK, here's Debbie

You wouldn't have had to update anything. They updated the accessibility of

the app store on the back end. Remember, the app store is all server sided,

so it doesn't require an update on our part for Apple to fix problems like
this. They can do so dynamicly on the back end, seemlessly.

There is a picker just above the five tabs at the bottom of the screen.
Swipe up to go through the results. This is where iPhone users are lucky as
this picker works. Unfortunately there is no such picker on the iPad.

Hi All

I've tried out the search function on the iPad's app store running iOS 6
again and still it is not accessible with Voiceover. I've had a sighted
person look at the screen and the way to navigate through the search results
on the iPad remains the same as in iOS 5, meaning that all results are
displayed on the same page, rather than each App on its own page like with
the iPhone and iPod Touch under iOS 6. The apps appear as images that the
sighted people can see, yet when I drag my finger over them, voiceover gives
no indication that they're there at all. Are there any iPad users out there
experiencing the same issue as me? If so can you tell me of a work around
for this problem.

Thanks
Debbie

Sounds like we're having the same issue. On my iPad 2 running IOS 6, a
search for the word "chess" in the US iPad App Store App returned 952
results. The results are presented as a grid of 4 apps on a page, but only
the first result on the first page seems to be readable by VO. That result
is located near the top left corner of the screen. I tried various swipe and
other navigation gestures in an attempt to hear any of the other results on
the first and subsequent pages, but haven't been able to hear anything other

The inaccessibility of the iOS 6 appstore on iPad again.

2012-11-01 Thread Debbie April Yuille

Thanks

The search feature of the iPad App Store is again not very accessible.

2012-10-24 Thread Debbie April Yuille
Hi All

Has anyone noticed that the search function on the App Store has become hard
to use again? The option to navigate through the search results has
disappeared. The store is still fine on the iPhone but not on my iPad. If
anyone knows of a work around for this, I'd really appreciate it, as I do
quite a lot of searching on the App Store.

Many thanks
Debbie

Try using alex. That voice works great for me. When it changes pitch you can
still understand it quite well.

I don't think Voice over will ever start using Eloquence as it's not in
development anymore. Maybe the vocalisor pitch problem wil be corrected in
the future. Then Vocaliser will be really good.

My Thoughts on the Mac Accessibility was RE: Making The Most Of Your Accessible Tools; A Passionate Rant [Was "so wish apple had done this"]

2012-09-29 Thread Debbie April Yuille
Here, Here. Well said. I've just migrated to mac and I'm quite surprised
with how accessible it really is. I have virtually no site, and I'm learning
to get around it quite well. I particularly love the way that you can use
the Item chooser to navigate around a page rather than tab around a hole
screen in other systems to find what you want.

"so wish apple had done this"]

Hello John, Will and all

As somebody with vision looking in, so to speak, I frequently find it
astonishing when I hear people criticising what Apple is doing with
accessibility; particularly in view of the practicalities. For instance,
unless you're a pirate and by definition, therefore, a thief, Freedom
Scientific, GW Micro and Dolphin Access, to name but three vendors, charge a
very great deal of money for their accessibility tools. Also, Microsoft
charges for their operating system, even for the most basic version, over 5
times what Apple does. VoiceOver is a free and, most of the time, very
reliable product. It gives the user access to a WYSIWYG, (what you see is
what you get) interface to websites. Most of which can, if you take the time
to learn to use it, be navigated extremely well using VoiceOver and Safari.

Ultimately, it really depends upon the individual. If you just want a sheet
of virtual paper with a hand-holding web environment, by all means use your
other products and I wish you the very best of luck in all you do.

I, (and I count my lucky stars, believe me), have the advantage of vision
and I have seen both sides of this. I do see some sites where VoiceOver just
will not play nicely and yes, we have seen some pretty spectacular crashes
at times. However, in the general scheme of things, the environment is more
stable and just as, if not more, reliable than the competition if, and it is
a very big if, the pilot of the machine takes the time and effort to learn
to handle it.

I sincerely hope that we see a time when Apple perfects their accessibility
tools. But make no mistake about it; they are committed to accessibility and
they will improve their offerings. Remember also that the competing products
have been available far far longer than has VoiceOver. Yes, I know that you
can't always go by that and I know also that Apple has been involved in the
field of accessibility for around 8 years now. However, just cast your mind
back to how things were before Apple entered the market. Apple really has
made a difference, not only to their own products, but also the competition.

I recall the vice president of one accessibility company saying:
"It's all very well having an operating system with a talking installer. But
that's not much use if you can't do anything with it afterwards."

That statement was a direct quote. It was, and remains, the utterings of a
frightened man who feared losing custom. As things have worked out, that is
exactly what has happened. Literally tens of thousands of visually impaired
users across the world have now migrated to Apple's products; desktop and
mobile. Indeed, the vice president of Freedom Scientific himself is the
proud owner of an iPhone. Make of that what you will!

Anyway, I am ranting. But I sometimes find it really disappointing when I
hear people complaining like this. People who have freedom to choose. The
long and the short of this is: If you want perfection, you'll be waiting for
a very very long time. If you are prepared to be flexible and innovative,
you have the power at your fingertips, quite literally in some cases. If,
however, you are happy with constant virtualisation, hand-holding and costly
solutions, then perhaps Apple's platforms are not for you. yes, there are
free and low-cost applications available out there for other operating
systems. And that is to be applauded. However, you are still working within
the confines of an often insecure, vulnerable and unstable environment.

Which ever option you choose to take is entirely down to your preference.
However, although I can understand a degree of frustration when things don't
quite work out; and yes, it does happen to my other half as well quite
frequently, the best thing you could do is to make the most of the failures.
Try to reliably replicate them and, if possible, send your crash reports to
Apple. That is the only way your problems will be fixed. It isn't reasonable
to expect Apple to foresee every eventuality and I urge cooperation and
patience. Believe it or not, as somebody with vision, I can tel you that
Internet Explorer 9 and FireFox 15 are not invulnerable and do crash quite
frequently, even without accessibility tools in the mix. Speaking
personally, I learned to do much more than point and click and I l

I don't use that book barks menu. I use eh book marks table which can be
accessed by hitting cmd option b and then on the left you have a table with
all the collections, that is, book mark folders, and the right table changes
every time you arrow through to a new collection.

The book marks' menu is the same. but just access the book marks via cmd
option b and you are good to go. A friend of mine did a wonderful podcast on
it at http://gwenna.podbean.com/feeds but she goes over how to add a
collection, that is a folder. she also shows how to navigate the book marks
cmd option b thing who's name escapes me right now lol!

do not get this confused with the book marks bar which is cmd shift b. that
is for quickly accessing websites with cmd 1 to 0 on the number row. I use
that for mars edit and other sites I need to access and scripts I need to
execute.

I forgot to access the site you are on in the right hand table of the cmd
option b book marks manager simply hit cmd down arrow. Space is also
supposed to work although some cannot get this keystroke to work at all.

Be blessed..

Function shift v o left arrow for top and function shift v o right arrow for
bottom. If full sized keyboard v or vo shift home and end. It's a matter

Yeah it's the same with mine. I guess they do that in case there is a kernel
panic and a sighted person needs to see what's going on on the screen. Just
my theory.

Tc all.

Thank you very much for your welcoming email. I'm fairly confident with the

Hello Debbie,

A DMG file is a disk image. When you get one of these, you need to open it
with Cmd-o.

You'll then find a file browser window. Interact with this and if it
contains a PKG file, open that with Cmd-o also. If it contains an APP file,
just copy it to your Applications folder.

Generally, on opening a PKG, you'll be in an installer. Just follow the
instructions and you'll be fine. When it asks for your username and
password, these are the ones for your user on your computer, i.e. the ones
you use at login.

The Installer will put the application in the right place for you, so don't
worry that you can't see it once the installation has finished.

Cheers,

Anne

Hi Debbie,

What are you trying to install? What type of files are you copying to the
applications folder? Maybe with a bit more information, I can help you
figure out what is going on.

How do I rout the mouse?

1. go to prefs.

2. go to accounts int he tool bar.

3. go to the table and interact.

4. press vo shift cmd space on the account you want at your default. if it
is at the bottom. don't forget to rout your mouse to it before you do cmd vo
shift space.

5. vo left arrow until you get to the top of the list and do a vo shift cmd
space to release the account and it should be at the top.

I can't get this to work all the time but this is the only way I know how to
do it. If there is another way I'd love to know.

Be blessed.

cmd n for new message, tab through the fields and fill them out

cmd shift d to send.

Be blessed.

Oh of course! Screen curtain disables the screen. Know this as I can do
it on my iPhone. Cheers!
