[Mac-access]: How can I see plist files?

2014-10-27 Thread Kristeen Hughes
I am trying to see the plist files for programs like mail. I go to the users
folder and I press command+shift+h and under home I have my user name and a
folder called shared. Under the folder with my username there are only the
usual folders such as dropbox, music, movies, etc. Under shared there is a
library/preferences folder, but in it there are only about four files all
pertaining to the same program. Where are all the plist files that are supposed
to be shown? I’m using Yosemite.

I am not sure. It was acting fine this morning, but now it will not speak to me
after booting. I am not even sure if it is booting all the way.

2014-10-14 Thread Kristeen Hughes
There is something wrong with my Mac. I would like to boot into recovery mode

Bluetooth keyboard? If you need a USB keyboard, how do you do it if you have a

time, but I do not remember which keys are mapped to the option and command

Thanks for any help you can provide.

Re: question about Backblaze

2014-10-11 Thread Kristeen Hughes
When I open the Backblaze program, the System Preferences window opens, and I
can't get it to stop being busy long enough to accomplish anything. if I go to
the Backblaze site through Safari, There is a link to my external drive, but
nothing happens when I click on it. I have about two terrabytes of info on that
drive and I don't want to lose it. Any further info that you think might help?

question about Backblaze

2014-10-11 Thread Kristeen Hughes
I know that Sarah uses this service. Does anyone else? I signed up for the free
trial. I did this simply because I thought it would be wonderful protection. My
three TB drive is now nonfunctional. I know that at least some, if not all of
the data is on the Backblaze backup, but I can
t figure out how to restore it. I choose the link for that drive, but it shows
me no way to select files and folders and does not list them. I can see things
if I search for them, but again, I have no way to choose them for restoration,
nor would searching for that much data be at all efficient. Can anyone tell me
what I'm missing?

This is correct. I've never used Apple scripts, although I've always wanted to

After the updates I can no longer type the first few letters or words and have
iTunes go to a song. I also can't move through my list of songs by using up and
down arrow. I have to interact, which means I can't sellect a number of songs
to do an operation such as tagging them. Is there a setting I can fix?

I did this and I ran the installation and it still didn't change anything.
Where would the corrupted file be, if I deleted the stuff in the home library
folder. I have downloaded the installer several different times, in case it was

We have a Macbook and it has been downgraded to Mountain Lion by our Apple

It will not go away. You can't use mail if it is constantly interrupting.

Re: Google Chrome on the Mac

2014-03-19 Thread Kristeen Hughes
There are certain links that it does not show. I know they're there and with a
Windows machine people see them. VO crashes a lot with Item chooser and
sometimes just because. If I use the back button, it takes me to an entirely
different area. It makes a site I'm using a lot right now almost unmanageable.
I don't know if I have a configuration that should be changed or what, but
there is some of it.

Item Chooser turning VO off

2014-03-17 Thread Kristeen Hughes
When I am in Safari, not all but some times, if I want to use the item chooser,
I will press vo+i and after a short time of busy, the Mac will say, "welcome to
Mac OS 10; Voiceover is running." There is no item chooser list. I'm not sure
if it makes a difference how many items are on a page, but I think the more
items, the more likely it is to happen. Does anyone know why this is happening?
It makes dealing with some very important sites on the web very difficult.

Thanks in advance.

Re: Question about a busy app

2014-03-09 Thread Kristeen Hughes
Yes, I have done those things. It has been happening since the Mavericks
update. I'm not sure if it is an OS thing, or if the app is now too old. It's
the news reader, Unison. I can't use the newest version because it is not
accessible. I'm afraid I'm going to lose my ability to use it, if deleting this
file does not help.

Question about the Focus 40 BT

2014-03-01 Thread Kristeen Hughes
I want so much to use this display more effectively with my Mac. I think there
are things I don't know. If anyone uses this on a regular basis, say in Pages
or Mail, could they try and answer some questions?
The most troubling thing at the moment, is that my routing keys do nothing. I
would think they should route the display to a letter or word, but I don't know
how to get them to function in any way. I'll strt there.

Adobe Flash Update

2014-02-01 Thread Kristeen Hughes
Hello, The message is up on my mac that there is an update for Adobe Flash and
there is an "update" and an "image" and there is also zoom and close. I can't
get anything to work. This has happened before and the only button that I know
will work is the close button, so I don't press it. I have tried mouse commands
as well as the usual vo+space. How can I get this to happen?

Thanks.

Re: Problem with the Apple Bluetooth keyboard

2013-07-26 Thread Kristeen Hughes
Yes, I think you're right. It appears that letters do not work. As I play with
the keyboard, I can do anything unless it has to do with the letters or the
enter key. I'm guessing there's no fix for that, just a replacement.

Thank you for your quick response.

Problem with the Apple Bluetooth keyboard

2013-07-26 Thread Kristeen Hughes
I have a Mac Mini which I use with the Bluetooth keyboard from Apple. It was
working fine last night, but suddenly it began doing strange things. It appears
that the VO keys do not work. I can command tab to an application but I cannot
close the application, or close a window. So that would also mean there may be
a problem with the command key. I can do nothing that involves a VO command. Is
there anything anyone can think of that might've happened?

I have changed the batteries, and that does not help. I have tried to pair the
keyboard with my phone, but it doesn't seem to wish to do that. Also, if I am
in the Twitter application, I can read messages but I cannot do a direct
message by pressing D nor can I press enter to reply. So, I guess, there's
something wrong with a lot of the keyboard. It is so strange to me because
something seems so normal. I am hoping I have it in some kind of a strange mold
or something, but I guess I'm doubting that. Any feedback would help me.

New hard; drive what do I do?

2012-12-12 Thread Kristeen Hughes
My hard drive failed in my Mac Mini. I got it back today with a new hard drive,
but I have a couple of questions. The first is that when I go to the desktop, I
can't see the new hard drive. It usually says Macintosh HD, but I can't see
anything except my external hard drive. What can I do to be able to see it?

I have a backup from before the old hard drive failed. I would like to restore
some of this data to the new hard drive. I have never done this before. Can
someone tell me how you restore data from a back up? I can't figure it out.

Thank you very much in advance.

Re: Suggestion didn't work

2012-11-16 Thread Kristeen Hughes
Sarah, I was under the impression that you no longer needed a monitor. I have
tried it both ways, and I can't tell if not having a monitor is the problem. Is
it true that you need one with the Mac mini? I thought one of the updates to
the OS made that unnecessary. If that's the issue, that would be great!

Thank you.

9. choose repair disk permissions and after that repair disk once the

Restart the mac by quitting all of these stuff afterwords and seeing if that

I have a Mac Mini and I emptied the trash. I don't know if I know how to do
this recovery console repair. Could you say more?

Suggestion didn't work

2012-11-12 Thread Kristeen Hughes
I am grateful for the suggestion of repairing my disk permissions. I followed
all steps and did that. It hasn't worked. I can't even use the computer because
it takes me so long to get a command in edgewise. Finder is always busy and
only gives me time for about two or three keystrokes, if that. Any app I am
fortunate enough to open is busy in the same ways. It took about an hour to
accomplish the verify and repair. What can the computer possibly be doing?

What is my mac doing?

2012-11-11 Thread Kristeen Hughes
It seems like my Mac is looking for something or trying to perform a task and
it can't. It doesn't matter what I'm doing, it will allow me to have the
processor for about three to five seconds and then all is quiet and it's like
the computer is just all busy, but it doesn't accomplish anything. If I get
voiceover to say anything it will be that whatever app I'm in is busy. I have
restarted both a warm restart and an entire shutdown. I have unhooked drives
and the display and that doesn't make any difference. There aren't any other
peripherals except for my bluetoooth keyboard, which I can't do without. It has
never caused this behavior before and I just changed the batteries. I've looked
at system preferences and I can't think what has changed to be causing this. I
don't know enough about the Mac to know how to moniter it or don anything like
all of you might be able to do. It just seems like it is trolling for something
or just very busy doing I don't know what.

Any instruction would help. I don't know what other info would help you.

Can you run a Mac Mini without a moniter?

2012-11-05 Thread Kristeen Hughes
There's not really anything else to say. It would be most helpful if I could
run the Mac without a monitor hooked up to it. However, it seems that when I do
this, the Mac is always busy and can't focus on anything for more than a few
seconds.

Question About an Application

2012-11-02 Thread Kristeen Hughes
I bought a new router and when I open the Mac application that comes with it to
set it up, the program says it has no windows, and there's nothing that appears
to me. However, when I look up information on the Internet about this app, it
talks about the main menu and the items that I should see. Can anyone tell me
what is happening? Does this mean the app is graphic in some way? Is there
something else I need to do that I'm missing?

I tried to set up the router without the app, but that isn't going as well as
it has in the past with other routers. It wants me to click on a link to
download the app, because it assumes I've lost the CD.

Problem when reading E-Mail

This may have been mentioned here, but if so, I didn't see it. Often, like
every time, when I'm reading the last message of a thread, the program will

Problems viewing shared resources

2012-09-03 Thread Kristeen Hughes
I have tried asking this question before. I can't find anythkng that pertains
to it in the help sections, so I thought I would try again.

I have a network with both PCs and Macs. On all computers that are resources
shared with the network. On all computers except one everything works
correctly. All resources can be seen and used properly. On one of my macs, some
resources will not populate. When I open them, the folders are empty.
Obviously, there are files in these folders. In other cases, some of the files
can be seen, but not all. I may see 300 files out of 600 files. This number is
not always the same. This behavior did not start until I upgraded to ML. Does
anyone have any information that can help?

Re: iCloud

2012-08-01 Thread Kristeen Hughes
If I have two macs, can they both ue iCloud, and if they can, how does that
work with an iPhone? Which of them does it sync with. Can they all be synced?

I should probably know this, but syncing has been a problem for me in the past.

item is still there even though the del key is supposed to do the trick. These
are items I'm viewing in a news reader called "Unison"

If someone doesn't have a link to their address in a message, and the group

option to reply to sender that works, how can one find the E-mail address? I've
done this, I thought, but can't seem to do it anymore.

Text Edit questions

2012-06-14 Thread Kristeen Hughes
I am using a bluetooth keyboard. It's the only Apple keyboard I have currently.
Is there a way to move to the top and/or bottom of a text edit document with
this keyboard? I've tried to press several combinations and none of them work.
Also are there any commands for moving through the document by paragraphs or
sections or anything like that. I'm thinking this might have something to do
with the roter, but I only understand the roter as it relates to the iPhone.

will force a rescan of the library. If I open the program, it sees what's in

reopened all of the time. This is arduous, so I was wondering if there is a way

Re: "finder busy"

2012-05-20 Thread Kristeen Hughes
Thanks for all the tips, fine people. I had actually done a lot of this.
Yesterday when I attempted to disconnect all of the peripherals, I discovered
that at some point the monitor had become unplugged. I don't know how or when
this happened, but I was pretty sure I had found the problem. Sure enough, once
the monitor was plugged back in, and I had turned off the machine by holding in
the power button, and then restarted, all was happy and bliss. The monitor is a
must, or apparently "finder" will continually search for it and life as we know
it will cease.

Thanks again.

"finder busy"

2012-05-18 Thread Kristeen Hughes
My computer was working fine this morning and then, for no reason I could
understand finder kept being busy. Now from then on, finder is busy and I can't
get it to do anything. Sometimes I can quickly open a folder or something
between the short ready times and the almost constant busy times. I don't know
how to tell what's hanging finder up. I've restarted a couple of times and I
also turned the machine all the way off for one of the restarts.

Also, and I don't know if this is related, the way I turn my volume up and
down on the keyboard is different. I use an Apple bluetooth keyboard and I
always use the far left bottom key in conjunction with the f11 and 12 keys to
turn volume up and down. Now that key seems to do nothing. The command key is
now what I seem to have to use. I'm confused and frustrated and feel like there
is so much about this machine I don't know.
