I can no longer do the jump command in mail either.

Yes that is correct, press enter and you will answer the call on the Mac.
This is working because both your Mac and your iPhone are on the same
WIFI network in your home.

Hi all i note that when my mac receives a phone call my iPhone is also
ringing as i set up the call forwarding.
 my questions are
 1. does bluetooth need to be on as i hear this is part of handoff?
if not why is the mac ringing if it is not talking as it were, to the
 IOS eight phone?
just curious how all this works

Re: [Mac-access]: a question about my mac book air

2014-11-24 Thread Rodney Haynie
Melissa,
There is no Ethernet port on the MBA. But you do have USB, so you
could purchase a USB to Ethernet dongle (little conversion cord), and
then plug the USB into the MBA, the Ethernet into the dongle, and the
other end of the Ethernet into the router.
I purchased mine from the Apple store, but I would assume you could
get the USB to Ethernet conversion cord from many places like Best
Buy.
Take care.

Re: [Mac-access]: Recording with Voice memos

2014-11-06 Thread Rodney Haynie
And on the tail end of your recording, when you are ready to
pause/stop recording, remember that your screen may have gone to lock
mode based on your settings.
So, you should press the Home button once before you do a two finger double tap.
Then you can un-mute Voiceover , turn speach back on, once again with
a three finger double tap. That way you have less editing to do, if
any.

Have fun.

Re: Downloading from Send Space on the iPhone (iOS7)

2014-05-01 Thread Rodney Haynie
Sarah, after reading your response I took another look at the Web tab.
What I did not realize that the button labeled "Play" is really the
button more accurately described as Go or Load. So once I clicked on
the Play button, the web page loaded, and I could read the content.
Sorry for the confusion, but at least others will know what to expect now.
Thanks.

Re: Downloading from Send Space on the iPhone (iOS7)

2014-04-30 Thread Rodney Haynie
Ok, tried it last night and Filer Lite worked just fine for me.
I am sure there may be a couple more ways of doing this, but what I did was:
1. navigate in Safari to the download page.
2. Double tap and hold on the download link.
3. Switch to Filer Lite, you will be on the link tab, and the URL will
automatically be filled in for you.
4. Tap the download link. The file will show up in Transfers tab, and
after complete will show up in the Files tab.

Personally, I found the Web tab to not be accessible. So, I don't
think we can use the Web tab to navigate to the site and click the
link to begin the download.

Take care.

Thanks. Once I did a search on Filer, in the iOS App Store, a few hits
come up. Is Filer the complete name, or are there more words in the

Downloading from Send Space on the iPhone (iOS7)

2014-04-28 Thread Rodney Haynie
Hi all.
I wonder if anyone successfully downloads an MP3 file from Send Space
and stores in Drop Box all from their iPhone.
If I use the iPhone, go to Safari, navigate to the file I want on Send
Space, click on "Click Here to Download" link if I am not logged into
Send Space, the file will not download in Safari. I have to log into
my Pro account of Send Space and then click the "Click Here to
Download" link.
At that point, player controls appear, and the file will start playing
automatically once enough has downloaded into the buffer I assume.
But if I want to save that file in my Drop Box, how do I go about doing that.
Seems that if the file type of the download is not MP3, you get a
button to allow saving to Drop Box if you like (I assume since I have
the Drop Box app installed on the iPhone as well).
So, talking this out, maybe I have to tell Safari not to auto-play
known file types?
I also looked for a dedicated app to download from Send Space, but
there seems to be only 1, and it can only be installed if you have
jail broken your phone.
Thanks.

Re: Printing wireless with Mac

2014-03-17 Thread Rodney Haynie
When you tried the Cmd+F5 to start VO on the Macbook Pro were you at
the password prompt of the loging/wake-up screen?
I ask because I have seen instances where if the currently logged in
user was not running VO when the computer went to sleep, and you wake
the computer up and are at the password prompt to log back in, Cmd+F5
does not work. But if you type in the password blindly, and press
enter and you hear the confirmation tone, then you should be able to
start VO with Cmd+F5 for sure.
Good luck.

2GB RAM sounds low. I don't want to attempt an update to Mavericks and

not mean VoiceOver will be responsive and such.

Re: question about extra options in menus when pressing the option key

2014-01-30 Thread Rodney Haynie
The way I learn about these modified menu options is by luck, when I
am reading about a particular topic, or by navigating to each menu
option, then press Option key by itself to see if VO announces
anything.
If the menu changes when I press the Option key by itself, I can
activate that new menu item by still holding down Option and pressing
Enter.
An example is when I navigate to the Apple menu, and come down to
Shutdown, I then press Option key for a moment, and VO will say
"Shutdown" again, and then I press Enter while still holding down the
Option key. This will let me shutdown without any additional
confirmation prompts.

HTH.

Re: cost of updates

2013-12-19 Thread Rodney Haynie
It is my understanding that when you purchase apps from the app store,
you get unlimited updates for free. This is Apple law I believe.
If a developer wants to charge for an update in the app store, then
they have two means of doing so. They can invoke functionality that is
only accessible through an in-app purchase. Or they can submit the app
again with a slightly modified name (usually adding a number or
increasing the number at the end of the name), therefore a brand new
app to purchase.

RE: Recommendations for Bluetooth headset for iPhone which is Voiceover compatible

2013-12-18 Thread Rodney Haynie
Thank you everyone, this is great information. Not sure if I can get out to
a store front, but I want to take advantage of some of these online sales at
the moment.

The specific suggestions, and the general technology suggestions are just
what I need. And the known manufacturers is great too.

Take care.

As you've seen, Bluetooth headsets abound! so I would take some time and go
to a place like an electronics shop or phone reseller who may have stock of
these items, take your IOS device along so you can try each headset in mind.

There are some things I'd look out for, make sure the headset you purchase
is at least Bluetooth 3.0 compatible which makes a huge difference of the
clarity of what you'll hear and other people may hear if you're using it for
phone calls, also means that the headset will be compatible with Siri.

Also stick to the know brands if possible, for example its known that
Senheiser and B&W make excellent headsets and probably always will.

Reccomendations for Bluetooth headset for iPhone which is Voiceover compatible

2013-12-17 Thread Rodney Haynie
Ok, this is a bit of a wide open request. I am looking for a bluetooth
headset that will work well with the iPhone5 and Voiceover.

The only other requirements I have are, if it is a single ear unit,
then it needs to have something that wil not allow it to drop to the
ground if it comes off of the ear while walking.

I am not afraid of getting more info on specific models, but would
like somewhere to start from.

Thanks.

Re: VoiceOver going mute on Mac OS

2013-12-16 Thread Rodney Haynie
I have found that usually typing in my password, with no audible feedback and
pressing enter will log me back into my MBA and Voiceover will be back up and
running immediately. But I bet the Command + 4 or 5 key presses may work for
you too. Definitely try typing in your password "blindly" though, it might save
you some time.

Take care.

Re: Hand Writing

2013-11-05 Thread Rodney Haynie
I would assume so. The track pad and touch pad are multi finger touch
sensing products, so the handwriting and the gestures that work along
with it should work just fine if Apple ever implements it into OSx.

Personally I think the handwriting is absolutely perfect for entering
your passcode to gain access to your iOS device. I especially like it
for this task since in passcode entry mode, it will not echo back the
digit or character you wrote. And if your passcode is only digits,
then it automatically defaults to numbers mode when you switch to
handwriting...another time saver.

Take care.

Re: How to change where the insertion point is when entering text

2013-11-03 Thread Rodney Haynie
Andy,
It sounds like you may not be interacting with the text box before setting your
insertion point and beginning to type.
I just tried to replicate using Mavricks but was not able to do so.

Just make sure you interact with the text box, and I bet you will get better
results.

Let us know.

Good luck.

Re: strange message.

2013-10-30 Thread Rodney Haynie
Jim,
That is VoiceOver giving you additional information on the photo you
are currently viewing. It also gives you this additional information
when you are about to take a picture.

Hints does not remove this functionality. I don't know how to remove
at this moment.

But I think this is great for helping the blind to get a more accurate picture.

iOS: How do you personally control volume?

2013-10-10 Thread Rodney Haynie
Hi all.

I am curious to get an idea of how most people control their volume on
an iDevice. I am referring to all of the volumes: headset, speaker,
sounds, voiceover.

Most of us know there is a setting to allow the side buttons to
control volume ...do you have it set to allow, or disallow? (Settings
/ Sounds / Change with Buttons)

How do you control your ringer volume? In particular, how do you you
personally handle changing the ringer volume a couple times a day.
(For example, you are inside a work-place so you want the ringer
lower, you are outside, so you want it louder, etc.)

How do you personally control the voiceover volume when you are in a
phone call, which is on speaker.

There seems to be plusses and minuses for that volume button setting,
and since I have been on an iDevice for a few years now, I want to
make sure I am not missing a better way of handling the task.

Do you use Volume in the Voiceover rotor?

Thanks.

Ok, got a response from the developer on this.

Currently, you have to go back to the list of articles and delete from there.

Thanks.

Yes, you can do that when viewing the list of articles. But if you
already double tapped the article title, and the article opens, how do
you delete from that point?

I just checked again, and Actions is not in the rotor when the article
is opened. For me, it is only therre when I'm in the list of articles.

Thanks so much.

Lire: How to Delete an open article

2013-08-09 Thread Rodney Haynie
Hey all.

I am using Lire on my iPhone5.

I was wondering how to delete an article after you have opened it, and
you are currently looking at the article content. I don't see any
delete button, I can go to previous or next, and I can go back, but
not delete. Maybe there is a special gesture to do this?

Currently my work-around is to go back to the list of articles, locate
the article in the list, then swipe down until I find Delete, and
double tap. It would surely be great If I could delete after reading
the article, and not have to go back and find it again in the list to
do so.

Thanks.

Re: Article: Voiceye: A Breakthrough in Document Access - AccessWorldÂ(R) - June 2013

2013-07-08 Thread Rodney Haynie
Very, very, very exciting. This could turn all printed material on its
ear. Medical information, such as explanation of benefits, bank
statements, banking agreements, greeting cards, etc.

I would expect, other than initially allowing individuals to print
these new codes for free, the word processing vendors should be able
to incorporate the plugin, in their app, by licensing Voiceye (Voice
Eye) . But again, that would only happen after widespread adoption.

Widespread adoption may take a while since it requires different
hardware and software to acquire the information. In other words, it
is not like you can print it out, and bring it over to your point of
sale scanner and have it immediately give you the information you seek
using today's barcode scanners. This is assuming the Voiceye
technology would completely replace the barcode and qr of today.

This is brilliant, and I wish I thought of it. (smile)

Re: Uploading Screenshots

2013-05-22 Thread Rodney Haynie
Harmony,
The Sleep and Home buttons referred to are on the iDevice (iPod, iPhone, iPad).
So go ahead and get yourself to the correct screen you want while on
your iDevice, then when you are ready, press Sleep and Home at the
same time and the iDevice will grab the screen shot of the current
screen.

Personally, I like the XCode progression.

Take care.

Ah, I neglected to say that you pinch sideways.

So you will do the pinch gestures horizontally.

I bet that will get you where you need to be.

Take care.
