To calibrate the insertion point, find out the position of the first tab stop on a line, then use Cmd- or Cmd- until VO-F4-F4 gives approximately the correct distance from the left-hand margin. Re: Printing wireless with Mac
When you tried the Cmd+F5 to start VO on the Macbook Pro were you at the password prompt of the loging/wake-up screen? I ask because I have seen instances where if the currently logged in user was not running VO when the computer went to sleep, and you wake the computer up and are at the password prompt to log back in, Cmd+F5 does not work. But if you type in the password blindly, and press enter and you hear the confirmation tone, then you should be able to start VO with Cmd+F5 for sure. Good luck. -Rodney On 3/17/14, isaac isaac.heb...@gmail.com wrote: To get vo to work with the mac book pro just press command f 5 and voiceover will come on. Re: question about extra options in menus when pressing the option key
The way I learn about these modified menu options is by luck, when I am reading about a particular topic, or by navigating to each menu option, then press Option key by itself to see if VO announces anything. If the menu changes when I press the Option key by itself, I can activate that new menu item by still holding down Option and pressing Enter. An example is when I navigate to the Apple menu, and come down to Shutdown, I then press Option key for a moment, and VO will say Shutdown again, and then I press Enter while still holding down the Option key. This will let me shutdown without any additional confirmation prompts. HTH. Rodney On 1/30/14, Sean Murphy smur7...@bigpond.net.au wrote: sorry, easter eggs within programs are never a good idea. Re: cost of updates
It is my understanding that when you purchase apps from the app store, you get unlimited updates for free. This is Apple law I believe. If a developer wants to charge for an update in the app store, then they have two means of doing so. They can invoke functionality that is only accessible through an in-app purchase. Or they can submit the app again with a slightly modified name (usually adding a number or increasing the number at the end of the name), therefore a brand new app to purchase. Re: VoiceOver going mute on Mac OS
I have found that usually typing in my password, with no audible feedback and pressing enter will log me back into my MBA and Voiceover will be back up and running immediately. But I bet the Command + 4 or 5 key presses may work for you too. Definitely try typing in your password blindly though, it might save you some time. Re: Hand Writing
I would assume so. The track pad and touch pad are multi finger touch sensing products, so the handwriting and the gestures that work along with it should work just fine if Apple ever implements it into OSx. Personally I think the handwriting is absolutely perfect for entering your passcode to gain access to your iOS device. I especially like it for this task since in passcode entry mode, it will not echo back the digit or character you wrote. And if your passcode is only digits, then it automatically defaults to numbers mode when you switch to handwriting...another time saver. Take care. Re: How to change where the insertion point is when entering text
Andy, It sounds like you may not be interacting with the text box before setting your insertion point and beginning to type. I just tried to replicate using Mavricks but was not able to do so. Just make sure you interact with the text box, and I bet you will get better results. Let us know. Good luck. Rodney Hi Esther - Thanks for trying to help, but I decided when I got this Mac to try and learn the Mac way, so I have the text setting in verbosity to speak text the cursor passes over. This works ok in applications, but not on the web for some reason, it's as if the VO cursor and the insertion point are in different places - Andy On 3 Nov 2013, at 19:46, Esther mori...@mac-access.net wrote: Hi Zack and Andy, I suspect the reason that Andy is having issues with the insertion point location and that Zack isn't, is that Andy configured his VoiceOver cursor to behave more like JAWS by changing his VoiceOver Utility configuration. When this discussion came up some months ago, Anne posted the information on how to get VoiceOver to speak text to the right of the cursor instead of its default behavior of announcing the insertion point at its actual position, which is between letters. When you move over existing text for editing purposes, the letters or words that you hear depend on the direction of movement, and it is always the last character or word that you move over that is announced. I haven't switched from the default VoiceOver reporting for the cursor, but I suspect that Andy switched his settings by going to VoiceOver Utility, Verbosity, Text, When moving the cursor: click the button and select Speak text to the right of the cursor. I can imagine that this might lead to his confusion in editing existing text on web pages on the Mac. Not sure what a good solution is if he wants to keep using this setting. HTH. Very, very, very exciting. This could turn all printed material on its ear. Medical information, such as explanation of benefits, bank statements, banking agreements, greeting cards, etc. I would expect, other than initially allowing individuals to print these new codes for free, the word processing vendors should be able to incorporate the plugin, in their app, by licensing Voiceye (Voice Eye) . But again, that would only happen after widespread adoption. Widespread adoption may take a while since it requires different hardware and software to acquire the information. In other words, it is not like you can print it out, and bring it over to your point of sale scanner and have it immediately give you the information you seek using today's barcode scanners. This is assuming the Voiceye technology would completely replace the barcode and qr of today. This is brilliant, and I wish I thought of it. I know that in a text field, I can turn my rotor to Edit, and then one finger flick down to select all, double tap, then one finger flick down to copy, or cut, and double tap. Then go to another text box, make sure I'm on Edit, then one finger flick to paste, and double tap. But here's where the, yeah, but... comes in. Let's say that I'm in the Mail app, and I've just opened up an e-mail, oh, what the heck, we'll just say from my friend. He's giving me his flight itinerary number, what concorse he'll be in, etc. I need to e-mail the information to my mother who's going to be picking him up. Again, this is just a ficticious example, but it does stand my point in perfect context. Yeah, I could forward my mother the entire e-mail, but why? When I open the e-mail, obviously the content of the e-mail isn't in a text field. So, how could I select a block of text from that message, then copy it? Here's another example. Say I'm on Safari, and I see a web site that has some good information about a particular topic. How would I then select just that one paragraph then somehow copy it, so I could then paste it into a text, or e-mail, etc? OK, I'll give you that in Mail, I guess one sollution would be to go like I was going to reply/forward the message, then I would have a full on text field, then could select all, copy the whole e-mail, compose a new message, address it, then put my subject, then paste the body, then delete the aronious unneeded stuff accordingly, but, man oh man! that's a lotta work just to copy one little part of the mail! With Safari, I'm even more! clueless how I'd do that seeing there's no way what so ever that I know of to force the html content

Re: syncing notes from mac to iOS devices and the other way round also
Yes, I did it in the Notes app on the Mac. Then I took out my phone, and modified the note on it. The note stayed in sync. I don't know what the difference is between us. Let me play around with this a bit. -Rodney On Nov 7, 2012, at 4:36 PM, Marcy Weinberg marcy.weinbe...@gmail.com wrote: So, if you did it within the notes app, I wonder what you've done differently than I have, or what settings ou may have set differently… -- Marcy Weinberg Junior Partner Fedora Outlier, LLC ma...@fedoraoutlier.com www.fedoraoutlier.com Browse on over to our website, or to our Facebook page, sign up for our monthly Delivering Access newsletter between now and December 1, and you could win a $30. iTunes gift card!
