[Mac-access]: Apps and Folders in Applications
Still feeling a newbee with my Mac, can someone explain why I find I have some folders in my Applications folder? I thought this folder specifically held apps. When wanting to install Audasity for example on my Mac Book Pro, the on-screen instruction told me to copy the Audasity folder to my Applications folder. I thought that I had to only put the Audasity App in that folder. This was when I came to note that there were a few other folders in the Applications folder hence my question to the list. Re: [Mac-access]: Apps and Folders in Applications
Some apps install themselves, folder and all, in the main applications folder. For example, my external sound card, Roland Quad Capture, installed a folder in the apps folder called Roland that contains several files associated with the device. Generally, when you are told to copy the .app file to the applications folder, it refers only to the .app file and not to any collection of files and folders. Also, you might notice that there is a subfolder in the applications folder called utilities. There’s an example of Apple in its wisdom organizing apps into subfolders. So again, when installing your average app, just copy the .app file into applications folder and you’ll be fine. The other folders, or in this case folder is called utilities. You can put the audacity app (I don't use it anymore as it is broken) in to the root of that apps folder and you will be fine.
