Hi, Folks. Has anyone tried using the dictation feature in Yosemite? I just
downloaded it last night and heard about this feature today. Thanks in advance
for any info on this.

sure. Just turn the rotor to words and stuff and edit and review that way. No
need to go through any odd things. I do this all the time.

If this is currently broken in ios8, call the apple hotline and report it.

Reviewing An E-mail Following Dictation

I can read an e-mail if I write with a bluetooth keyboard but if I dictate,
and Alex gets it wrong a lot, then I have no way of reviewing what I have
written. Shaking the phone for undo is not working well either. Any ideas

You can actually change that by hitting the volume control and bringing that up
after you hear the sound. I have mine at all the way up.

noticing an unwanted difference in dictation since upgrading to 7...

2014-01-16 Thread Laurie Mehta
Hi,

Since I upgraded to ios7 for my iPod, I've noticed several things that are
taking some getting used to, but one that is especially unpleasant is that
when texting and using dictate to create a text message
the sound that dings to announce that dictate mode has started has become much,
much quieter than before
and even the repeat back of the text I have dictated is at a very low volume.
My regular volume is set fine via the buttons on the side of the iPod, but it
is odd that the sounds during dictate mode are so much significantly quieter
than the set volume.
This causes some problems in a noisy environment since it's hard for me to hear
that the dictate mode has started.

Do any of you know if there's a way to fix this problem and if so how?

Thanks!

- Laurie

Thanks for all that, I have to admit to finding the dictation facilities very
convenient, like the way you can double tap with 2 fingers on an edit text
field, start dictating and perform another 2 finger double tap on that field to
finish, makes things easier than ever.

2013-01-30 Thread Glenn
Sarah,
It is not a matter of accuracy, in fact, I speak in a regular manner, and it
gets at least 95% correct for me.
I am referring to the 30 second limit on dictation.
I need an app that does like list recorder, the app, and will also process
the recording into text and do it all on the same device, not having to
upload it to a PC.

I never would dictate a book but the key is to

1. speak slower then you would with normal speech.

2. enunciate. Pretend you are a classical singer

3. dictate 1 perhaps 2 sentences at a time.. If they are long, split them in
half.

I do this with about 95 percent accuracy. If only it would get my last name
right though. lol!

Hope that helps someone.

Really? I can dictate for more then about 30 seconds. I don't think there
is as it needs time to process. I find that dictating a sentence at a
time works well.

Take care.

Hi,

If dictation stops while your using your iPhone, you can resume the
dictation from where you left off by tapping the dictate button again.
I usually listen to what's been noted down before I resume so that I can be
sure that the message flows smoothly.

Re: Dictation on iPhone / iPad

2012-11-01 Thread Esther
Hi Paul,

To add to what Josh said, the dictation feature was added for the iPhone 4S,
and appears on devices that were released since then, such as the third
generation iPad and the recent releases of the iPhone 5, fifth generation iPod
Touch, and new iPads (mini and fourth generation). It shows up in the form of a
"Dictate" button just to the left of the space bar for languages that are
supported. (For example, if I switch to a Russian input language keyboard
there's no "Dictate" key present, and the space bar extends over that location,
while it's there for French.) You use the key on the virtual keyboard to start
and stop dictation instead of using a keyboard shortcut, but the kinds of
dictation commands you use are similar. You have to speak punctuation, such as
"open quote" or "quote", followed by the phrase, and then "close quote",
similarly for parentheses, capitalizing letters, periods, and commas. And, of
course, there are several possible variant phrases, such as "full stop
 " instead of "period".

HTH. Cheers,

Esther

Re: the new dictation pages

2012-10-27 Thread Sarah Alawami
Are you using mountain lion and di dyou set up your hotkey? Mine is the default
which is the fn key twice but you can set up a custom one. What error messages
do you get when you start dictation and are you in an edit field when you hit
your dictation key?

Good luck. and be blessed.

Try setting the language in international. I dunno if that will work but it's
worth a try. I don't have a 4s yet but good luck. A friend of mine with a
spanish accent managed to dictate very well and it came out flawlessly. and his
was set to us english.

accuracy of dictation

2012-06-19 Thread william lomas
hi all how do people find dictation and therefore siri as an
add-on, to be in terms of accuracy?
for me i find dictation not very good considering we are meant to be in the
21st century. I don't expect 100 percent accuracy but dubious as to how useful
siri (when available for me) will actually be.

surely siri can not be that accurate if asking it to do things/ or is it just
me as haven't had siri on an ipad, until we get IOS six?

Hi Kristeen,

If you own a 4S, a less expensive alternative you may want to consider is the
two dollar IOS app called Dictabulus recently described in David Woodbridge's
podcast.

Best regards.

Re: Dictation for the Mac?

2012-02-27 Thread James AUSTIN
Hi Christine,

The solution I think you're looking for is called macSpeech. It is made by
Nuance, and you can find the Homepage here:
http://www.nuance.com/for-individuals/by-product/dragon-for-mac/index.htm

Please bare in mind, that my comments are based on past enquiries to Nuance.
That being said, I do not know if accessibility has improved recently.. The
last time I saw an in-depth discussion on-list about this, I seem to remember
that the initial training for the app was inaccessible. This training is
important, as it allows MacSpeech to become accustomed to your voice, although
it may be possible to bypass this and train as you go.

>From a quick search in the App Store, it does not seem to be available there.
>Also, I do not believe the company is willing to provide free trials, although
>they did offer a money-back guarantee when i last enquired about purchasing.

There may however be a cheaper solution lurking somewhere, as MacSpeech seems
to be quite pricy if you only plan to use it until your arm gets better.

I hope this helps

TC :)

Dictation for the Mac?

Hello,
I have to do a lot of typing and currently have an injured arm. I'm wondering
if there's a Dragon Naturally Speaking solution for the Mac and if any of you
know how well it works with Voiceover.
