Re: magic trackpad buggy

2013-01-07 Thread John Panarese
Interesting. I'd highly recommend it. I use it every day with my Mac Mini
and I know,at least, eight people that immediately come to mind who are also
using it without any problems. It's simply an awesome little device. I can't
account to the problems you are having, but please don't generalize your issues
into an everyone should stay away from it matter.
Are you sure you are connecting it properly through Bluetooth settings?

that's strange as I've had mine since getting my mac and absolutely find it
invaluable, especially for using Safari. I definitely wouldn't advise people
to stay away from it. What sorts of specific problems are you having with it?
I have been just using regular batteries in mine, for example and haven't had
trouble with them running out that often. Once the track pad was paired with
the mac, it stayed paired, even after quite a while. The only time I have
trouble with connections is when the batteries are low on charge, and even then
the computer tells me the track pad needs batteries..

You wouldn't use it over a keyboard. I have a USB keyboard I use with the
Mini. From my understanding, you can do the VoiceOver gestures with the Magic
Mouse. I bought the Magic Trackpad because I like to use the gestures for
VoiceOver, particularly on the web.

Re: magic trackpad not working

2012-12-09 Thread Phil Halton
This happens to me on occasion. The solution is to turn the trackpad off
(disconnect) in the BlueTooth menu, and then turn it back on (connect).
Sometimes, (like just now as I was testing it out for this message), I have
to disconnect and then reconnect a few times to get it working again.

Deleting in a list using Magic Trackpad

2011-11-20 Thread Dennis Freedman
Hi Listers
I just love using my Magic TrackPad with my IMac - almost, but not quite, as
good as using an I Phone! :) But I wonder. When scrolling through a list, such
as a list of email messages, is there a way of deleting a message just using
the TrackPad rather than having to use the keyboard as well? That would be cool!
Any help welcomed.
Dennis.

Magic Trackpad: I'm a convert!

2011-08-04 Thread Gordon Smith
Hi all

OK, I have to admit it. Although I really find the trackpad on the MacBook Pro
a bit of a pain because it gets in my way when typing, it's too small, and so
it goes on. Since Lynne bought us a couple of Magic Trackpads about 2 or 3
weeks back, I now can't quite believe I ever managed to live without this
little tablet. It makes reading and interacting with websites a total breeze,
and it goes quite some way towards eliminating the need for keys. obviously
not if there's editing to do, but for genera reading it's super duper!

I have to admit that I even use a Blue Tooth keyboard now with our MacBooks and
prefer to use the machine that way rather than have the MBP sitting on my lap
taking up space. It's just so much more convenient. How did we ever live
without these boxes of magic?

I totally agree. I own a Macbook and a iMac. I tend to use my iMac more, as

Hi Chris

I'm contemplating an iMac actually, although I confess the prices are a bit
steep. There definitely are advantages though, and most of the time I use a
Blue Tooth keyboard on the MacBook Pros. I just prefer to sit with the
keyboard on my lap rather than the full machine. But yes, the TRackpad is
excellent I just need to figure out how the heck you disable the internal one
while keeping the Magic rack pad active.

BTW I seem to have turned on the screen curtain somehow and I can't remember
how to turn it back off. Any thoughts?

Magic Trackpad; [Revisited]

2011-07-23 Thread Mrs. Lynnette Annabel Smith
Hello everybody

Firstly may I thank those who have written to me privately expressing good
wishes for Gordon's recovery. He's home now and resting for the most part
having lost quite a bit of blood.

Anyway, on to the reason for writing, hence the subject line. Yesterday we
received the two Magic Trackpad units I ordered earlier in the week. I haven't
opened them as yet, I wanted to give Gordon the opportunity. But I thought I'd
write first and ask those who do have these devices whether there are any
pitfalls; and what's the first thing you need to do to get them connected.

I'm also wondering whether there is a way of disabling the internal trackpad on
a MacBook Pro, and whether in fact those who have used both would think there
is any advantage to using the Magic Trackpad rather than the internal one on
the machine itself. If not, maybe we'll be better off with the Trackpads on two
of our Mac Minis instead. In fact, one of them is destined for a Mac Mini
which, of course, doesn't come equipped with one by default.

Magic Trackpad

2011-07-22 Thread Mrs. Lynnette Annabel Smith
Hello everybodyh

I have a question as we are expecting a pair of Magic Trackpads soon. Forgive
my ignorance; I'n not a full--tile Voiceover user. When you read web pages with
the Trackpad do you have to turn on Trackpad Commander on the Mac? Or does
VoiceOver somehow detect the website and just work without it? Where can I find
a list of web-related gestures for VoiceOver? I'd like to see Gordon get his
head around this at last because he's more or less all keyboard but in order to
teach he'll need to know how to use the Trackpad properly.

2 trackpads, that's one for each hand, neat! smile.

Voiceover automatically detects what situation your computer is in, that is to
say if a web page is loaded, if you're working with a Word Processor etc thus
adjusts the available gestures on the Magic Trackpad accordingly.

obviously, doing any harm.

• You can also try out gestures by turning on Keyboard Help. It's a great way
to learn to get them right.

Actually he's messing with that now on another machine. but with the internal
trackpad.

Magic Trackpad

2011-07-21 Thread Mrs. Lynnette Annabel Smith
Hello everybody

I'm wondering whether the magic Trackpad might help Gordon when navigating web
pages. Somebody mentioned this a while ago; but we've forgotten how it works.
Could somebody remind me? Also, I'm wondering whether the trackpad might be
better if it were external rather than the one built-in to the MacBook Pro
machines. Gordon's preferred method of working is with a keyboard on his lap
and the MBP on a little table in front of him. I won't go into the reasons for
this; but there are good reasons. Anyway, does anybody think the magic trackpad
would help?

Lynne

Re: Magic Trackpad

2011-07-21 Thread Dane Trethowan
On your last point first, I have a Macbook, no not a Macbook Pro but it too!
has an inbuilt Trackpad and I much prefer to use the external Magic Trackpad,
main reason being its bigger size.

Navigating web pages with the Magic Trackpad - or the built-in one on a Macbook
machine for that matter - is done in much the same way as on an iPad or on an
iPhone, you have your rotor from which you select your navigation elements such
as links, headings, etc, then its a matter of swiping up or down to navigate
between next and previous elements as defined by your selection with the rotor.

That's what I do here, others I'm sure will have other comments and perhaps
more advanced ways of doing things, for example I know one can define gestures
with the Magic Trackpad and Voiceover, that's something I've not tried yet.

Re: Magic Trackpad

2011-07-21 Thread Mrs. Lynnette Annabel Smith
Hello Dane

Gordon dislikes the inbuilt trackpad because of the fact that it's so
sensitive. To be honest with you, we very rarely use the web browser on the iOS
devices. We can use it, of course, but usually we are within range of a Mac
when we want the web.

However, I just ordered us a couple of trackpads. One will do nicely upstairs
and the other for the MacBook Pros down here.

I think that it's something that Gordon really needs to become used too, as he
is still very much a keyboard person.
