Re: Purchasing Lion, International Issues

2011-07-23 Thread Michael Busboom
Hello Anne,

First of all, I would like to thank you and everyone else who responded to my
note. Since I am on vacation, I won't be downloading Lion just yet, but I did
want to plan ahead.

I have noticed that besides mention of the new voices that can be downloaded
for free, very few postings that I have read talk about new Voice Over
features. I looked on Apple's accessibility page and did not locate any such
list. Does anyone know if the new Lion Voice Over Manual has been posted
anywhere?

To all of you who have downloaded Lion, enjoy!

Best regards,

Mike

Hello Mike,

You'll have no problem with the language. As you know, I live in France but run
my Mac in English and it's never been a problem.

Cheers,

Anne

Re: Purchasing Lion, International Issues

2011-07-22 Thread James AUSTIN
Hi Michael

I am currently living in the UK, but I performed a fresh install of Lion on
Wednesday. English was chosen automatically when the OS installed. I say this
because at the time, I was away from the computer. When I went back and didn't
hear anything, I turned on VoiceOver to discover that it was in English. Now
Lion is available in other languages of course, but I believe English is the
default choice on the "Language Chooser" screen. Hope this answers your
question.

TC :)

I think you should be ok Mike. I purchased my machine in the US, but have
successfully upgraded to Lion from Ireland. Now I'll add the caveat that I'm
using english (albeit a strangely pronounced and spoken variety) so I'm only
partially answering your question.

Purchasing Lion, International Issues

2011-07-22 Thread Michael Busboom
Hello listers,

When I get a chance, I will purchase and install Lion. I am wondering,
however, if the process will be as straightforward for me and other expatriates
as it is for someone who doesn't have his or her residency in a country other
than the one in which the Mac was purchased. Here is my situation more
specifically:

I bought my Mac when I visited my parents in the United States. When Snow
Leopard came out, I had friends send me the DVD from the U.S. I currently live
in Vienna, Austria, and I do not plan to visit the States for at least three
months. When I go to the App Store here in Austria, will it be possible for me
to purchase an English version of Lion? Sometimes, companies automatically
assume that if an order originates in a certain country, that particular
language will be the default language when the product is purchased. While I
don't mind speaking German in the least, I still prefer to work with my
operating systems in English.

Thanks for any thoughts,

Mike
