Re: Bootcamp

2014-07-20 Thread Gordon Smith
Hello

This response makes absolutely no sense to me I’m afraid. But in any event,
let’s not continue this thread too much because this is a OS X list, not a
Windows one. The specifics of installing Windows are for another forum.

Kindest regards

RE: Bootcamp

2014-07-18 Thread Eileen Misrahi
Hello,

Gordon, you can tell me if I am OT, but Applevis recently posted a podcast on
how to install Windows in Bootcamp using a talking installer from
bryansmart.com. I wish I had this when I was going through the process about 4
months ago. Fortunately, I had sighted assistance. Otherwise, I probably would
have gotten myself into a mess. HTH.

I’m somewhat behind on mail. Is it possible, is that what you’re implying
here, to install Windows 7/8 under Boot Camp without assistance? I was under
the impression that this was system-specific so wouldn’t always work reliably.
For instance, selecting the partition to format when there are multiple drives
in the system such as a Mac Pro installation, I’d have thought that would
change the sequence?

Kindest regards

We may get in trouble for talking about this on this list but no the Mac has
to restart into the Boot camp partition and then you have to have your
Windows OS disc / drive ready for the installation of Windows as normal.
Unlike the Mac OS this process is not generally accessible unless you enter
the realms of unattended installs or remember keystrokes so it is probably
best to get sighted help.

You probably need to go onto the windows access or tech list to pursue this
more.

RE: Bootcamp

2014-07-14 Thread Eileen Misrahi
Hi,

I am 99% sure that the bootcamp partition is located in the 4th position.
However, once you begin the installation of Windows, you will have no
speech, hence needing sighted assistance. At one point, I did read the
article posted up on Applevis to install
Windows without sight, but my steps and the amount of tabs didn't match up,
as reported by my assistant helping me to install Windows. Also, I'm not
sure which OSX you are using, but I am running Mountain Lion. And began with
Win 8.0 original single licensed disk and bootcamp for one reason or another
didn't like it. I needed to create an ISO on the desktop and run bootcamp
from the ISO disk instead of the disk. I did keep the disk in the external
DVD player and that's where Win 8.0 was installed from. It was the oddest
thing, but it worked. Just giving you my recent experience with it all. HTH
and good luck.

Perhaps it's no longer there, since at the time, Tiger was the OS
circulating. That said, when I checked a while back, it was still
there, but I'm not sure now if it's still there, since I guess they
can only keep podcasts on up to a certain time limit, sort of like the
statute of limitations for certain laws. LOL...

Re: Bootcamp

2014-06-05 Thread Sue
When I Bootcamped my MacBook I was expecting to be bothered with the hassle of
having to boot to one or the other, but I'm definitely not. I've used VMware
Fusion in the past and found both pros and cons to it vs. Bootcamp. These pros
and cons could make a good discussion here. I'm sure different people have
different opinions that would be interesting.

Fusion is a way of running Windows on a Mac, it means that you can run
Windows within the Mac session itself.

I googled Windows Fusion for Mac and came up with the following page which
should answer most of your questions.

Re: Bootcamp

2014-06-05 Thread Phil Halton
Fusion is an app that allows you to run other operating systems, like windows,
on your Mac. It is a viable alternative to installing windows on the mac via
the Bootcamp utility.
With bootcamp, you have to split you hard disk into logical partitions and
install the windows OS on one of those dedicated partitions, and then select
which OS you want to run at boot up time. You’ll also need a sighted assistant
to do the windows installation.
With fusion, you don’t do any partitioning, and you don’t have to boot up into
one or the other OS, you can just switch between Mac and Windows as you would
switch between any other set of programs on your mac. Also, the installation
can be done without sighted assistance.
.

BTW: in the time it took you to chastise the woman, you could have written out
a simple paragraph explaining the basics of Fusion vs Bootcamp.
I also don’t care much for the “one-liner” type of answers. It reminds me of
the people, kids mostly, who are just too cool to speak clearly and plainly, or
give a full answer to a reasonable question. I mean, why bothering answering at
all if you can’t give it a decent effort? A neighbor once told me when I was
shoveling her walk, “just because you’re doing me a favor doesn’t mean you can
do a crappy job”.
Oh well, just my two cents worth. I turn sixty in a few months and this is what
happens when you get old and opinionated.

2014-06-05 Thread David Griffith
I think a lot of us try hard to help others on this list but that is not all
that we do. Sometimes we only have time to give a brief answer.

Most of , if not all of the basic questions for clarifications people ask
for could be resolved by a simple Google search. I understand that some
people may find a Google search difficult but To criticise those on the list
who try to help for lack of application and effort is I think completely
wrong. This is most especially the case when often listers asking questions
have clearly not even bothered to take the effort to learn how to research
an issue on Google or perhaps Wikipedia themselves. Those of us who try
to help by answering questions most often do so patiently despite this
obvious lack of effort so it does not fit well with me when, fairly
bizarrely, people trying to help are criticised for lack of effort. I am
happy to spoon feed information and if necessary consult Google and
Wikipedia and other sources for answers on others behalf but I do not think
any of us have the right to demand more from list members who are only, in
the end, trying to help.
