need help

2009-09-20 Thread May McDonald

Ok, I need help. I have no clue what I did, lol. Somehow my finder
window doesn't show what it use to when I log on, example, macintosh
hd, teamviewer and so on. Now it shows everything that's under the
macintosh hd folder like I opened it. I hope that made sense.

How do I get it back to how it was?

New Ipod Nano VO- Solved and some Observations.

2009-09-20 Thread Pete Nalda

Ok, here's the thing. If you check Speak Menus, then voiceover will
speak the menus but not the song titles. The Use Voiceover check
gets checked automatically in iTunes. If you *don't* check speak
menu items then only song titles are spoken.

Now my observations:
The 5th generation (new) nano has a built in speaker, so you'll hear
alex as soon as you're done syncing with the above setup. He sounds
like he's coming out of a really tiny transistor radio, but he's loud
and clear. I'm guessing that gets cut off as soon as you plug into
headphones. Next, Alex will not speak calendar events. He'll also not
speak radio favorite frequencies. My suggestion for a work around is
use the old count click method, and just try and not mark too many
stations. He will announce podcast titles in the podcast menu, then
the titles of the individual podcasts in the next menu. Finally He
won't read contact names or contact information, nor will he read the
game titles. The voice, by the way, if you have use system voice
selected, is stunning. Sounds just like Alex on the host computer.
Ok hope this helps a little.

Re: New Ipod Nano VO- Solved and some Observations.

2009-09-20 Thread Barry Lipscomb

Great review. I just purchased my 5G nano yesterday and am going
through the menus now. You're observations are correct. The speaker
does cut off when you attach your earphones. Also, I was disappointed
when I discovered it would not speak the favorites in the radio
section, but since the text to speech engine generates the spoken
menus on the computer side and then synchs this is to be expected.
Apple would have to provide a way for you to id the stations in iTunes
before you synch for it to work.

Yeah, although, I don't know if the 4th gen nanos had that little
speaker though, which besides hearing VO, will let you play tunes out
loud. And you get an fm radio and video camera to boot. Maybe not a
lucrative upgrade for some.

Re: New Ipod Nano VO- Solved and some Observations.

2009-09-20 Thread Barry Lipscomb

The only think it adds in respect to spoken information is the support
for the earbuds with the remote (like the newest ipod shuffle). With
this you can remotely (through the earbuds) have the voice speak the
song and artist as well as cause it to step through the playlists. In
addition pause, skip forward and backward. The other feature have
been detailed like the radio and speaker etc.

 Hi Tony,

Re using Vo while on a call:

 1. Hold the phone away from you to activate speaker phone.
 2. Two finger flick up to get VO speaking.
 3. While VO is speaking, press the volume switch up untill you
 have the VO
voice volume where you want it.

You will then be able to press the keypad button to actifvate the
 keypad.

If you have the latest upgrade on your phone, VO will remember the
 volume,
and you will only have to do this once.

 Hi all.
I have looked around the webb but can't find answer to my ipone
 question.
I have used the iphone for a couple of days and so far no problem.
But a question. How do I activate voice over during a call? I red
somewhere that you can flick two fingers upwards to get v o speaking
 but that didn't work.
I need v o during calls so I can navigate the phone keypad so I for
example can use tone controled systems.
 Any Idea?
And when I'm at the keybord, does anyone know of a good skin or case
to use with the Iphone? I'm afraid dropping it so I want some skin or
case that makes it little more easy to hold.
But so far I like it.

Re: Typing special characters

Lindsay

You should consider asking your linguistics teachers what they know
about LaTeX and unicode.

 Hi,

I am currently taking a linguistics course, and am wondering if it is
possible to type Unicode characters using the Mac. Much of the
coursework involves typing IPA symbols, and up until I have been using
what I call the cheater method (copying and pasting symbols from a
table online). I would much prefer to be able to type these symbols
myself for the sake of efficiency and practicality, and would
appreciate any input any of you may have. Thanks.

Ok, can you use the FM presets? What about the sleep timer and

I have a friend who isn't real computer savvy who is considering
 buying 1.

I've not tried the alarms or sleep timer, but do know the radio
presets aren't spoken. The reason is iTunes doesn't store the
 presets
in anyway so VO has no idea what that screen is saying. Also,
 screens
like the radio tuner or pedometer aren't spoken either. I did notice
it announcing the current track album in cover flow though.

Which MacBook To Buy?

2009-09-20 Thread Debra Turner
I have been looking at Macbook Pro models and Macbooks. The MacBook pro is
about $200 or higher in price than the Macbook. I have been looking at the
13.3 inch model with the 2.5 ghz speed processor. It seems the Macbook
pro is lighter weighing only 4.5 pounds. Are their other differences
between the two? Can I use the track pad with VoiceOver?

Also are these 64 bit or 32 bit machines? I would really like to buy the
right model the first time!

Thanks for any advice.

Debra

RE: Which MacBook To Buy?

2009-09-20 Thread M. Taylor

Hello Debra,

Well, I am by no means a Mac expert but I can tell you, without reservation,
that the MacBook Pro 13 inch notebook is one of the finest pieces of
technology I have ever owned. The built-in multi-touch track pad is one of
the most compelling reasons for VoiceOver users to select it. A multi-touch
track pad device is a must-have for any iPhone 3GS user.

Good luck and congratulations on whatever you choose.

Mark
