Questions regarding safari, and random little voiceover quirks
I'm not sure if my first question is a voiceover problem, or just an HTML thing I need to get used to. Is there a way to make it stop reading heading levels and block quotes? I know headings are in the actual HTML, I just enjoyed the ability to turn them off in jaws. Also, when I use VO-A to read the document from the cursor onwards, it only seems to reads up to the end of a paragraph. Is there a way to make it read continuously? Finally, is there an option to have VO no longer say a row has expanded, in adium for instance?I 'm sorry if all of these are buried in the VO utility. I get a little overwhelmed at all the options to customize there.-- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "MacVisionaries" group. The onl suggestion I can give you is try pressing the left and right arrow keys together. Sounds to me as though you have turned on quick nav by accident which makes the arrow keys behave as though you are holdin down control and option. Arrow Keys not Responding Properly
Now, after all the updating etc, I'm having this problem where, whenever I try to use the left and right arrows within an input field on a webpage, it'll bring me to the next field instead of letting me review the letters that I've typed in. In Text Edit, it keeps switching me between the text in the file and the ruler. Several times, I've had to delete what I'm writing because it wouldn't let me see it properly. I can go word by word with ctrl-left or ctrl-right, so I know the arrow keys are still working. I also can't use the up and down arrow keys in Text Edit because they do the same thing and in Safari, they switch between links and the editing window for the e-mail. BBC iPlayer and VoiceOver
Hi, i'm based in the UK and registered Blind. I've had some success using the BBC iP;ayer to listen to TV programs with Audio Description. I do find it a bit boring having to scroll through all the programs to find the one I want to listen/watch too. I wandered if anyone knew of a way to search for a specific TV program using VoiceOver and the BBC iPlayer. I have tried "Doctor Who Audio Description" in the iPlayer search panel but just get the standard program. Any ideas? Re: another facebook question - Farmville?
There is Adobe's Packager for iPhone which allows a Flash developer to roll up their Flash app into a standalone iPhone app. Not quite the same thing as Flash on the iPhone. http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/flashcs5/appsfor_iphone/ although I have to wonder about the accessibility. I downloaded "Just Letters" which is one of Adobe's examples of an app built with Packager and on my iPhone the entire UI is inaccessible, just like Flash on the Mac. yay. That said, I'm assuming the reasons for exclusion of flash on the iPhone are probably the same ones preventing Java and game emulators. Apple wants to lock out things on the phone which can download/execute arbitrary code pulled in after the fact. It's rather draconian but I can understand the risk avoidance of some hackery coming in and breaking somebody's phone. If the app store approval process is supposed to be some measure of quality/security it would be hard for them to make those assurances on something that can execute arbitrary code from unknown sources. Re: Web Anywhere Screenreader--An Ongoing Experiment at the University of Washington
Not sure what it's doing but Safari is repeatedly doing requests to /cgi-bin/getsound.pl on the washington site. Repeatedly as in one or two requests per second over and over. This is being invoked in scripts.php on line 104. Not sure what that line does since they minified all the code to near illegibility and with no comments. I've tried it and it does work on Macs. It will not work for some desktop applications or spreadsheets. It is, at best, an entry level screenreader, but it quite good. I had to disable VoiceOver once Web Anywhere began speaking. iPhone - using different voices with VoiceOve
Hi all. I was speaking to a friend last night whose friend also has an iPhone. Somehow, he uses VoiceOver with an English male voice instead of the default female voice. I searched briefly for text to speech on the iTunes store and found that Neospeech's Paul and Cate voices are available as rather hefty free downloads. Apparently, their new Julie voice is also available.I also found a translator that has an option of installing Loquendo's voices as paid extras. Are these voices compatible with voiceover or is this fella running something else? Dannie -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "MacVisionaries" group. I think I'd rather file my finger nails down using an angle grinder with a course wire brush wheel!. LOL Well, I totally get what you're saying. When my sister-in-law first tried to talk me into playing, I was like "whatever for!?" But I have to confess that it's kind of intriguing me now that I've been playing around with it. It probably helps to have friends who are playing. Anyway, I wrote to Zynga and asked them to look into it, so if there are any other frustrated Wanna-be FarmVille players out there, you might want to write them too. I figure the more of us who ask, the more likely they'll do something.
