Re: Backspacing on a BrailleConnect with Voiceover
Hi Jessie. I have the BrailleConnect 12 and if it's anything like that model, you need to use the navigation keys (d1-d6). It's the equivalent of the chords that you normally do with space plus Braille letter. The chord is a d-chord, which in the case of the BrailleConnect would be d1-d4-d5. Hope this helps. Music and iTunes
Hi folks. I have a few questions wich I hope someone have a good answer to :) - I think we have meen into this first topic before, but maybe there have happened something lately wich I've not discovered... Have anyone found a way to copy music from iPod Touch (3rd generation) into iTunes that works without too much hassle? Will this be possible if I jailbreak my iPod? - Where's the button (in iTunes 10.3) to download already purchased music? I've only found a such button in the purchased-list in the library, but when clicking on that one, I only get the list of apps and books. Hoping for good answers. -Kind regards David -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "MacVisionaries" group. Re: transition from pc to mac
Weird, Neil. You have words and characters in your web rotor, and we are both using Snow Leopard. I have those options when not on the web, of course, with quick nav, but that's not true for the web. Might there be some difference if your device has a built in track pad? I'm using a Mac Mini; I do have a magic track pad, but of course, it is an add on. mary Mary Otten motte...@gmail.com -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "MacVisionaries" group. Re: How do i "learn" a new word in spellcheck?
Hi Kev! You can go to your list in your home directory and find the folder library open it and look for spelling! Open that one and in there is your local library where all items you've saved go to! I think it opens in a new text edit window and you can edit it there! And when done save it! adium and facebook chat problems or ichat?
Hello, Since a few months, I can't chat on Facebook anymore. The problem is that the recipients aren't seeing my answer while I don't receive a error. There is already written a bugreport about this: http://trac.adium.im/ticket/15225 I had the problem with the last beta-version but also with the stable version: 1.4.1 Are there any workarounds are solutions for this? Also, my ichat is configured for Facebook too so I can also chat with this. But, I prefer adium since you can hear the texts of incoming messages. I am wondering if you could configure ichat or install a plugin for ichat so that you can hear the text of the incoming messages automatically and directly. Perhaps this will change with the new ichat of lion but, if possible, I would like to have a solution asap. Re: adium and facebook chat problems or ichat?
Hi William! Have you done the set new user for jabber! If not You'll need to set up a user name [if you haven't already] in your facebook account! Then in Adium set up a new user under Jabber! When you go go into the fields put your new facebook user name in the box and your facebook password! And under [I think] the options tab you have to put chatfacebook.com then set your new account! And you should be good to go! If you have already done this and you've got that problem I cannot help! Hi Colin, I think I haven't done it yet but I don't understand completely. Where should I create the new user: on Facebook.com or adium? Buying a mac computer

Re: Buying a mac computer
Hi Wendy, You can get all of the details fro Apple but here are a few key differences that come to the top of my head. MacBook pro comes in three sizes, 13, 15, and 17 inch screens. Contains a built-in DVD drive, SD card reader, Can take up to 8 GB ram I believe, Nice large hard drive, USB, Firewire, and I believe the new Thunderbolt port, Nice range of processors, and I'm sure more features I can't remember. The MacBook Air comes in two sizes, 11 and 13 inch screens. Contains no DVD drive although an external drive can be purchased if one wishes. Contains two USB ports, either a 1.4 or 1.6 Intel duel core processor, Can install up to four GB ram, Comes with either a 64 or 128 GB solid state flash disk (nice and fast for bootup!) instead of a hard disk, Does not contain a Firewire port, and I'm sure more features than I can remember at the moment. The question you should ask yourself is What do you want the system to do for you? If you just want to do word processing, web browsing, reading mail, looking at pictures, and the like I personally would like to have a Macbook Air. If you want to do a lot of video and audio editing such as multi-track audio go for the MacBook Pro. I love my white MacBook that I purchased in February 2010. I'm sure I will get many years to come out of the thing. If I was buying my Mac now I would have chosen the MacBook Air because it is very lite and does not contain a hard disk and DVD drive to add to the weight. When the Mac Os10 Lion operating system is released we will have more cool VoiceOver features to play with. I for one am very much looking forward to Single Letter navigation in web pages. Good luck in purchasing your new Mac. Feel free to send more questions to the list so we can help you further with your new purchase. Re: Buying a mac computer
Hi Wendy: I'll leave the descriptions to others here, other than saying the Macbook air has no cd/dvd drive, is lighter, and it's hard drive is a solid-state as opposed to optical. But you might want to take a look at the Apple site. Under the Mac heading, there are good explanations and comparison tools. There is also some helpful information about making the switch from pc to mac, as well as information on accessibility. If you type switching, or accessibility into their search box, you'll likely find some good helpful info. Hi David: You should simply be able to transfer stuff on your iPod back into the iTunes library. When you connect, you should receive a dialog asking if you want to transfer them or they would otherwise be lost. Just select transfer, and they'll come into the library. Hello, I just got my IMac on tuesday. I didn't want to get an macbook pro, or macbook air because most things I do on the move are possible with my IPhone. But the Imac provides more memoryr ram, and processor speed. I love what the mac provides, what it can do, and the accessibility is the best part. Hi William! OK no problem with your message! 1. go to facebook.com and go to your account! 2. open account settings and select change user name [ even if you do not have one] 3. Facebook should give you some options and just after them will be a more link select it! 4. Now after the options Facebook gives you [I did not like my suggestions] there is a edit box where you can put your own name! There is a see if name is available button after you put your choice, if it is available you can have it! If not try another or add a number to the end! [ it might help] 5. When your happy come out of Facebook and open Adium! 6. In Adium on your contacts window open vo+m and go to the file menu! 7. Scroll down to add new account sub menu and arrow right, go down to Jabber and select it! 8. In the new account window is where you'll find those tabs, the first one should be selected just scroll past until you get to where you put your new user name! When you've entered it the next field is your Facebook password! 9. After filling those in go back to the options tab select and scroll to where you put the server name [ as you correctly said ] chat.facebook.com and enter it! 10. go to register new account button and press it! And you should be done! :] Also the post I got this from [ cannot find it] said to remove your old Facebook account the one already in Adium! Makes sense not going to be using it anymore! Re: apple tv
when you are in the middle of the screen on your iPhone, just hold and flick like you are using the real remote. when you want to move down a list or left or right, just touch and hold and flick in the direction you want to move the curser. When you want to make a selection, just tap the middle of the screen, and that will conferm your selection. There are 2 buttons on the bottom left and right of your screen, these do just what the buttons on the apple tv remote do. if you want to go back, press the lower left of the screen, to play/pause, press the lower right. you can also play/pause by tapping the middle of your iPhone, like you would on the remote with the center of the circle. couple more mac questions
Hello, I think I have figured this signature thing out. Only thing is, I'm use to stacking my info, like hitting return so I can put my contact info on the next line instead of the same line as my name. But when I hit inter to do this, when I go to write more text, the mac bongs at me. So is it possible to stack it, or does it all need to be on the same line? Also Lastly, shoud the box that says put above quoted text be checked or unchecked? Thanks. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "MacVisionaries" group. You should be able to stack the information. Make sure you are interacting with the edit area for the signature text. I personally have that checkbox checked for placing your signature over the quoted text, but I guess that is a preference thing. Re: Boot camp questions
IN terms of boot camp, I am not the expert but nobody else has answered yet. In the Utilities directory there is a program called bootcamp assistant . When you run this program it will partition your hard disk and perhaps do a little more setup. At that point you will need to install the OS just as you would on any other system. After installing the OS there is one additional step to get all the drivers in place which is done with the SNow Leopard disk. To switch between MacOS and BootCap you can select the boot partition from the control panel and that is 100% accessible. There is also the possibility of hitting the option key at boot which will bring up icons that are not accessible of all the boot partitions that are currently available. Check the box about quoted text. Basically, this will put your signature at the bottom of your message, even if you're replying to someone else's message, as I am doing now. Otherwise, your signature would appear at the bottom of the entire email. I was able to stagger my signature over several lines. No bonging on this end. Shannon Are you a fan of women's music? fusion or bootcamp
Hi all, I received one response to this, but I don't think the individual who responded actually uses either Fusion or Bootcamp, and I would really appreciate the assistance of someone who either uses these products or has good computer experience - sorry to be a pain! I set out below my original query - it would be fantastic and much appreciated if someone or several of you could assist. beginning of previous message: Hi all, I have installed fusion on my MacBook Air and am running windows 7 64 byt. The Air's specs are maxed out - 4gb ram, 2.1ghz processor (it is one of the late 2010 models). The problem I'm having is that Jaws is stuttering a little when I have say two or three word docs open at once. I've tried allocating half the ram to windows and half to the mac, but it hasn't helped matters. Just wondering whether I would be better off with bootcamp, or should I perhaps stick with fusion and try another screen reader, such as NVDA, which may be less ram and processor intensive? Also I will need to run openbook under windows. I haven't tried that yet, but if Jaws is sluggish I reckon it's a fair bet Openbook will be also. Re: fusion or bootcamp
Hi Cam, I don't actualy use bootcamp, but do use fusion. I can only suggest that 2 gig of memory may not be enough for windows 7 with lots of stuff open. I personally run winXP under fusion on my MBP. I allocate 2 gigs of memory to it and don't see any issues with jaws stuttering. This could of course be because I have a quad core processor rather than the memory, then again it could be that winXP requires less memory than windows7 which I believe is the case. So my suggestions are: Bootcamp would provide the full 4 gig of memory to windows and probably prevent stuttering at the price of only being able to access either windows or mac at one time. Switching to XP may give you some benefit although it is hard to quantify. Sorry I can't be of more assistance. Re: muted speech toggle
Jeff, Here is something I found in the list archives from someone named Heather: here is the steps for unmuting speech with the keyboard. vo-f8, (or on some it is fn-vo-f8) brings the voice over utility. Hit s for speech and tab twice to the mute speech and deselect from there. BY hitting vo with space bar. Track pad is much easier. Re: couple more mac questions
Does anyone have the direct link? I searched for it, and got a lot of resaults. Being new to the Mac platform, I don't want to download the wrong thing. Re: free lion upgrade?
I really wish I had the money to even afford a macbook pro. living on disability has left me with no resources with which to allocate. I am stuck on a powerbook G3 and snow leopard running on a VM guest under Linux. :( I am down to even begging apple for any programs that would allow me to acquire even a first gen unit. I really wish I had $1200 to use. -Eric On Jun 9, 2011, at 9:53 PM, Kliph&Sharrie wrote: > Not only did I get the student discount on my new IMac, and apple care plan. > But anyone who buys a macbook pro, air, or IMac after June 6th, gets a > free upgrade to the new OSlion being released in July.
